I know this is old but THANK YOU. This is the only thing that worked for my puppy! Tried all the nicety-nice techniques and he came forward a couple of feet if I had a treat, but that’s it. Otherwise, he digging his heels and pull back. I finally tried this now he’s walking on the leash like a champion now is eager and runs ahead instead of resisting and pulling backwards.

My 12 week old puppy refuses to walk away from home but is doing better in other places. She seems to be terrified of leaving the house. I made all the mistakes you specified... Picking up, harness not collar... I'm going to be trying this more firmer technique. Thanks for sharing!

Same here too! We have to pick our pup up until we get to the end of the road and then she can be encouraged to walk.
FINALLY!! I've been watching dog training videos for a week now, trying to find a good way to teach heel to a puppy. With the puppy I have now, it's been a little hard for me to show him where the proper heel position is (not his fault - he's super smart; the fault is mine for not knowing how to show it to him), and that place marker tip is exactly what I was looking for. Thank you! I've never had to teach my dogs heel before, as my Akitas were practically automatic - the puppy I have now is just a bit different (and not an Akita), and I've been trying to figure out the best way to show him where to position himself. This is a GREAT tip! Now, I just have to make sure I do it right.

Me too.. I bought a harness for my dog. Disaster.. shes very skiddish..never been out of her cage, only to breed. Very sad and we don't want to
traumatize her , she's a rescue a yr old.. shes already had a litter. She was a baby.

It seems so easy with that good dog! My puppy is really dominant and she hates the leash. She just sit or lies on the floor and denies to walk. It doesn't matter how much I cheer her up, which food I show her or if I keep walking, she just will stop and get scared.

maria novak I went to a totally new area ( a forest) and she wanted to smell and discover the things. I used that energy to train her and it worked perfect. I didn’t do exactly what is in this video because it was way too much for her, but similar, treat when she walks and cheering up when she freeze ( I said “let’s gooo yeaaaah”) and walking backwards when she pulled in front of me.I am not an expert on training but now my dog walks perfect. Maybe a new area also works for yours! I hope so :)

I have a 2 year old shih Tzu that I purchased from someone. He will walk fine without the leash. The minute I put the leash on him its like he understands whats going on and stops dead at the door. He will not budge. I would really like to walk him in the evenings.

My 9 month old Blue heeler puppy lays down and gets on his back knowing that he hast to go in the crate soon he weighs over 50 pounds and it’s very difficult to pick him up and put him in the crate but that’s his way of objecting to not wanting to get into the crate do you have any techniques that can fix this behavior? I walk carrying the puppy because it will go in the hallway like almost every time.
I don't want to carry the puppy but,it's predictable.
I think the hall probably smells of other dogs.
She's 9 weeks and a shih tzu, so tiny .
Everything else is pretty good,she does squat too low and has pee on her afterwards, this is probably her age.
On a good note, she cleans herself quite a bit because of that.

I've tried this a few times, she gets really dizzy and then falls on the floor. She is less them 8 inches long ways, she is a minichure sausage dog + smallest of the litter. Its hurting her and she runs straight back home over and over

You focused this video on how to correct the lagging on the leash. I have a Weimaraner just like your gsp. He can stay on heel for seconds, but suddenly he explodes. I usually turn around and make him heel again. Also, he's 4 months. Any more advice?
