Y'know this opening really is the reason I love Halloween so much. It was never the candy or the costumes, it was this. It was the atmosphere of Halloween that this introduced me to.
I can’t say LOVE enough for this. I miss the old spinning CBS SPECIAL at the beginning, although all Peanuts are on ABC now anyway. I was 10, almost 11, for this broadcast, and wow, everything about this takes me back. The CBS SPECIAL.....the preshow Rosemary’s Baby voiceover and the announcer.....the commercials (only 2....damn, we’ll have about 6 or 7 tonight during the first break).....and definitely the dark, grainy, beautiful VHS recording. This is perfection.....my childhood. Brings a small, nostalgic tear to my eyes. 😇😊 It’s on tonight, and even though I’m closing in on 49, I never miss these when they’re on TV. Even cut down and with commercials, I still prefer watching that way. And when I want real nostalgia, I’ll watch the DVD, or preferably, something like this on UA-cam. Thanks! 🧡🎃👻
Hate to tell you but Disney bought this timeless classic so it will only be streaming on Apple TV. I freaking hate how everything is going to streaming
As an 80s kid growing up with this masterpiece I think I liked Halloween more than Christmas. The crisp cool air, the beautiful colors, punkins, ghosts, skeletons etc etc. My brother, two cousins and I always turned our basement into a walkthrough funhouse for our relatives to go through. Jesus tap dancing christ I loved that time in my life
Back when you had to be in front of the TV at 8 p.m. the night it aired or you had to wait one more whole year to see it again. Now you can watch it whenever you want and it isn't special anymore.
I very much appreciate that we can watch these specials whenever we want on DVD and such but it's just not quite the same without the distinctive spinning CBS SPECIAL intro and especially the sponsored by McDonalds!
Hello museum of classic Chicago television, will you please upload the whole program with original breaks? Even if they were in parts? My kids and I enjoyed a video like this which was uploaded on Dailymotion and suddenly was removed and deleted from the internet. It was never archived and I never even thought of downloading it before. It would be nice to see the whole program again as it was aired in the late 70s/early 80s. Please consider. Thanks.
I don't see what you mean I'm 14 and I still come around every october to watch this yet its a shame you can watch it any time you want too and not specifically october
Right in-between the "Rosemary's Baby" promo and the 1973 CBS Special Presentation bumper, it's missing the following where the voiceover goes like this: "Because of the following special programming, (Insert show here) will not be presented this evening."
Well, here's an explanation: At 8 PM on October 24, 1980, the new Peanuts special, "Life is a Circus, Charlie Brown" aired, so before the "CBS Special Presentation" logo, they had the pre-emption notice. "Because of the following 2 special programs, (insert show here) will not be presented this evening." A repeat of "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown" was shown at 8:30.
You know what? They edit almost all of this part. ABC does that is. Why did CBS sell all the Charlie Brown specials to ABC in the first place? I've noticed they edit almost all of the specials now that they've gotten the rights.
The rights to the "Peanuts" specials expired for CBS years ago- and they didn't want to renew it. So, ABC stepped in- adding MORE commercials by editing most of those specials even more than CBS later did, Your best bet is to see them UNCUT on home video, Sheri.
Actually ABC shows 2 versions. One version is an edited version in a 30 minute time slot. The other version is a 1 hour time slot which includes the entire special uncut and it also includes the special "You're Not Elected Charlie Brown"
I noticed that the special "The Mayflower Voyagers" cut the scene where the characters are looking for Native Americans where the DVD release did have the scene.
It was a commercial for Crispy Wheats & Raisins that featured the characters from "The Wizard of Oz", but something's wrong with her main character, she's not Dorothy, she's Alice from "Alice in Wonderland". Dorothy had dark hair with pigtails and ruby red slippers from the movie. They should've used Dorothy in the commercial, not Alice. Why not have a Judy Garland lookalike as Dorothy to be in the commercial.
@@Musicradio77Network General Mills couldn't use a "Judy Garland" version of Dorothy because they would have to pay a (possibly hefty) royalty to MGM for the use of that Wizard of Oz version. Now, the red slippers Dorthy wore in the 1939 version, the were actually silver in the original book.
Given that this was 44 years as of this writing, the technology was the best that CBS had at the time. The film print (and yes it was actual film) probably had been used quite a bit. 🎃
Y'know this opening really is the reason I love Halloween so much. It was never the candy or the costumes, it was this. It was the atmosphere of Halloween that this introduced me to.
I know that this comment is 2 years old, but this perfectly describes why I love this special so much

I agree! All it's missing is the Dolly Madison commercials😅

That logo was also before a certain infamous piece of Star Wars media.
This brings back soo many memories of my childhood, I was 4 years old when this was broadcasted 41 years ago in 1980.
I was 19 when this aired ,but still watched!

I hear you man the best part of life is still having the memories
@Cory Masuga agreed. If I ever find out I have Alzheimers I may tap out on my own terms before my memory is taken away from me
Im a child from the 2000’s the fact that this brings the most nostalgia with many others tells you something
Brings back memories, doesn't it?
Jim Walker Cool! :)
Sure does, yes.
@@jimwalker1064 you didn't like it when you were 10 or 12?
This the only clip I will watch!!......I was there for the original airing 🎧
Charlie Brown and his friends getting scared on the opening titles is freakin hilarious 😂
So nice seeing PEANUTS clipped from CBS 2. Here where I live also has CBS 2, so it sorta feels Nostalgic. I love PEANUTS.
NY? I live in Manhattan and I grew up watching Peanuts on ABC 7.
It's the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown will be 55 years old this Halloween, it debuted in 1966.
R.I.P. Chris Shea 🎃🤠👱🏻♂️ The Original voice of Linus

I would always watch this when i was child because I was a huge fan of Halloween and now I'm 15 years old I still love Halloween 🎃 🥰
This movie was my entrie childhood
I miss being a kid 😔
I watched it when I was a kid/bought 2 Happy Meals, always to watch the show and some Jiffy Pop popcorn/I still watch/so many fun memories
Jiffy Pop is what Charlie Brown makes in the Thanksgiving special.

Love This Old TV advertisement for It's The Great Pumpkin 🎃 Charlie Brown 🎃👻🖤🧡

I think that's the one thing in the world we all can agree on is "Linus and Lucy" song is Greaaaaaaat! Thanks Vince Guaraldi
It's a Shame that no one celebrates Halloween like that anymore
This quality for a tape from 1980 is surprisingly really good 😀
Nothing to look forward to anymore, when everything is right at your fingertips 24/7.
I still watch this every October for the feel.
Goodbye charlie brown you will be missed. It's sad that apple took this away from us. Kids won't see this anymore.
And PBS brings it back! :):):):):):)
For only one year though.
MeTV might
It’s a shame kids won’t experience like we did watching it on tv like we did anymore.....

So in case anyone didn't catch that: it's Crispy Wheats n' Raisins. If only they had said it more times, maybe people would have caught that.
That CBS Special Presentation logo still gives me chills.
I associate it with the Star Wars Holiday Special, so I always think of Boba Fett with that logo.
Brings back the warm fuzzies! Thanks for posting!!
I just love the opening with the nighttime scenes with the kids and the ghosts and goblins scaring the kids.
Thanks, old pal!

Linus and Lucy is considered as the amazing song to Peanuts fans everywhere.
I can even call it
It’s the greatest official song Charlie Brown.
Not to mention that it's even played on the radio every year around Christmas.
@@joshmontemayor1212Because everyone associates it with the dance scene in the Christmas special.
Ill be watching it at 100 yrsold 😂
The sponsor announcer sounds like the narrator from Bring Me the Head of Charlie Brown. Is this where Jim Reardon got it from??

"A little McDonald's hamburger music?"
1:56 you don’t know true horror until you see this
No!!! Linus is crying!!!
1:44 Is that why Linus believes in the Great Pumpkin?
@@trewashington787, I've heard that Linus has Halloween & Christmas confused.
2:35 it is revealed that ghosts love mcdonalds
I guess they don't love Coca Cola or Dolly Madison like they used to...😆
❤️
I think the original airing is lost
Whenever I like to watch mature stuff like AGK or davemadson or even ESPN8, I just can't say "no" to wholesome, family-friendly gems like _Peanuts_
King Moody playing Ronald McDonald
Why...
Lucy is the girl you ask out and then never show up for the date. She's a terrible person.
It always bugged me how she completely missed the newspaper when she was gutting the punkin
Too bad Apple took away a classic
And PBS brings it back!
this was before pbs announced that they were going to air it
@@totoroiswatching How long will PBS air it?; hopefully multi-year.
That Wizard of Oz knockoff is so cheap...
Not for 1980.
