"Pro-sumer," no. It was Canon's Flagship professional camera. Literally THE BEST camera they made for many years.

Actually, you have the drive grip. It takes 8 AAs and that gives you the wikid fast drive. There is a battery grip that takes 4 AAs and the 2cr5 battery that you can switch between. I got mine for about 150 as well, but mine has the battery grip. The good thing is, the grip mounts to the 1, 1N, 1V, and 3. Coolness.
    Great video. Thanks.

    Thanks for the great video.
In the 90s I was shooting with the 1nRS and a EOS 5 with the famous eye control focus. But when digital cameras started to appear I sold all analog cameras when they still had some value. Anyway I was not so happy with the RS, because of the quality loss of the transparent mirror. Today I’m shooting with the Canon 1DX and 1DX2. I kept the L-glass from the 90s and still use my 300 f/2.8 regularly on the modern cameras. The 35-350 is still a great lens for traveling.
One thing is amusing for me: Having made a living as a sports photographer in the 90s, I shoot enough film for my live, so for me going back to film is not an option. And I think it’s kind of interesting when I see in vlogs people telling me how great it is to shoot analog.. yeah, not really, been there, done that, next... Don’t understand me wrong, I’m glad I had to learn on film. You had to know your trade and had to make sure all is correct before you start to shoot; there was no room for errors. When I see photographer today which check e-v-e-r-y single picture on the screen, then I know that they never worked analog before. I only check the screen after the first shoots and then that’s it. I can fully concentrate on the scene I’m shooting.
But now, even I do not want to shoot analog anymore, the circle is closing: My daughter which never shoot analog, now wants to have a analog camera. So I just bought a Canon EOS 1N for 45 Euro because the 1N was the only choice for me. And now I will teach the next generation how to properly use a analog camera. Since my daughter „inherited“ an Canon 1D MarkIII and uses it regularly, it should be quite easy for her to change to the 1N, since the controls are mostly identical.
Now the next challenge is to find good, but affordable film and also a development service which doesn’t break the bank.

i would say that someone that checks every shot carefully on their digicam monitor is more likely an experienced film user that found that their shooting quality had deteriorated once they went digital and that once they became aware of this they slowed down and tried to savour each shot just as they had done in their film-shooting days.

This review is four years old. I'm leaning toward buying this model on Ebay for about $200(Mint, Box,& strap) If money wasn't an object I'd probably get the 1V but my pushback a/g that is that I'd probably be paying for features I don't need,& this and the 1V seems to have better build construction over the Eos 3. I own an Eos Elan iie that I don't use enough. Any updated thoughts?

One of the best videos explaining why this camera makes a good choice. I have a Nikon F4 and an F5 but shoot digital with a basic canon T7 with the 24mm and 50mm EF lenses. Really have had the urge to try a "pro" level Canon to get the fast shutter speed and was looking at the EOS 3 and EOS 1V, both of which are considerably more expensive for just a few extra features. Might give the EOS 1N more thought now. Thanks

Mario Gutiérrez definitely recommend the 1N i haven’t used the eos 3 or 1v but aside from a faster shutter speed and some other seemingly useless amenities the 1n was the best bang for buck for me. The EOS 3 is newer however i believe it was more of a consumer camera vs the 1n being a semi professional one.

i think the Canon A1 is a fantastic.
the a1 does everything you could possibly want, with less confusion than these other cameras.
these other cameras were made for pros that were plowing through tons of film.
bear in mind how quickly 36shots gets used up when using a power winder. the pros used to put a special rear on the camera that allowed for installing extremely long lengths of film.
who the heck would use a power winder on a 36 shot shoot?

if clients specifically seek out photographers that use film as their medium then this is indeed irrelevant to the issue in and of itself as to whether shooting digital is less costly than shooting film.
