Herman’s are currently my favorite maker rn. I wish I could afford all his models. They are addictive in flipping action and looks.
Btw, detent and flipping action does vary between folders. I have two Stings and one has a light detent while the other is harder and flips incredibly.
I wanted to add, the custom tool is simply a torx 20.
thank you
I would call that finish elven hammered brass 😂
The Famous Herman Ting!!! Beautiful Sound!! Music To My 👂's
That sound is like a old temple gong/pole bell getting hit when you open that piece up! The quality is simply stunning I would definitely go with the new over the old the finish is beautiful the sound is bonkers and the blade is more appealing. Then again you know me I would love to have either of them lol both stunners. You two have a beautiful day/night as always stay safe and healthy both 🫵😘👍
Wow!! when you were opening and closing it it sounded like an ol school clock. Tick tock tick tock. Sounds amazing!
Yes it did 😆 🤣
It is, indeed, a masterpiece .The blade geometry and finish to the texture of its handle and clip, phenomenal. And that clicking sound is fantastically pleasing to the ears.
Great sound, i agree! 😀
Best reviewer in the knife game
Herman knives are very cool, that's a beauty Jerad
I find all of Herman’s knives to be absolutely stunning, and “musical”. Though I’ve not yet handled one, a Herman knife and a Holt knife are currently my 2 dream knives that I want to get someday. No full dress needed for me, just the basic knives are beautiful enough. I actually found out about both brands through your channel.
i agree holt and Hermans are ridiculously awesome
The blade finish almost looks like a *very* aggressive abrasive, higher pressure media blast, followed by a gentle vapor blasting on top of that to clean it up and even and smooth it out.. compliments the scale finish very well!
I love ❤️ when I hear you get worked up over the detent, I can totally relate there’s just nothing better, that has such a high hollow acoustic thwack not a ting, I love it, they truly do some of the nicest knives in the 1k$ range
Great video Jared! Absolutely amazing finish. I love the exquisite birdsong action of a Herman. Congrats on your acquisition! I'll be ordering one soon, baby. Can't wait!
Was able to snag an Ishtar with this finish and also M398 on the drop yesterday. Grey handle/clip with a PVD blade. Very excited for mail day this week!
OMHO From an aesthetics point of view, no one does it better than Herman Knives. They are in a league of their own. From every angle this blade just looks so complete - nothing missing or out of place or unfinished. While I have seen similar handle treatments before - none as good as this. So much going on here. The colour, the aged/patina look, the texture. I would love to be in the design room when stuff like this is on the table. The thought and attention to detail on such a small object is mind blowing. Thanks for showing. Sharp blades all.
yeah i really think this color was a perfect choice for this finish
Herman!!!! They are all super duper bangers!!!!!
One of these days I will have to put myself in much debt to get me one of them!
Great sound!! 👍 I like the double click from the detent when you open it. Sounds like a SBD Void
Herman knives are beautiful.
Damn awesome knife and the acoustics are off the chart. That woven one at the end is amazing.
I particularly like the finish on this knife. Checking their website, I see that they make this knife in many different colors, in this texture, but most of them are bright! I prefer a natural metallic color like this one. I DO love the sound this knife makes! I also love the action on this knife, my only regret being a lack of thumb studs. This knife reminds me of a Reate knife.
I showed dark color versions they have in stock
I have had a slim for a couple years now, back when herman was still using carbon fiber for his backspacers. I just recently got an ishtar with the same finish as yours but mine is in the jokers colors. I love it. Its my favorite of the 2.
Nice! Yeah I'm loving it for sure
That sound is so dope. Kinda jelly if I’m being honest. There’s not many premium premium knives that make me feel that way because they are just outta my range. However Herman’s are so incredible and something I would definitely consider saving for.
Bartoz knives make that cool "schting" sound when you flick them open
Cool video thanks.
Congratulations on the new acquisition.
Dude, congrats Jared! The acoustics are just ridiculously satisfying. I would to even just handle that for a couple of hours.
Ayooooo. My all time favorite knife maker!
This made me order one based on sound alone, but then i saw the closeup photos and just started salivating…
Great acoustics.
Doyle knifes does stippling like that. He is an amazing knife maker in my top 3
What a sound, what a masterpiece. I will start saving to buy this. Love it! 🔥 🔥 🔥
i love it when an already amazing knife its topped out by an even better one this ones off the charts
Another banger! Gorgeous piece, Jerad!
Absolutely Magnificent 🤩
I have actually. It’s actually called “stipled” in some circles. Some call it cratered… But us Glock pistol guys actually replicate this on the handle sometimes using a hot iron needle or soldering gun. Which in this case looks to be drilled and buffed out. Looks great though imo!
You rack enough savings for a Herman? That right there is dedication pal! ✔️🎯
You forgot to talk about the blade steel, M398? I've only heard about this steel once before.
i know i messed up, i will make sure to talk about it again soon
I went to knife steel nerds and read about it, it doesn't sound like a steel I would want as apparently toughness is very low and edge retention is only as good as M390. Or at least thats my understanding of what I read.
Great video
Blasted with bigger grains and double washed? I’d like to know.
I would enjoy a Maker interview or Polish.
Stunning knife.
Excellent sounds.
I enjoy single knife clips as well.
Perfect work..Bud
Bang!!!!
Some day..b they come up on the secondary every now and then
Love Herman’s work. I know you were initially gifted the Sting for promoting Polish Custom Knives, I’m curious, did polish custom knives gift you this knife as well or is it something you will need to send back after your video promotion? I believe they call the scale finish “hammered”, Im not for sure but it looks like a “hammered” or “hot hammered” finished, Ti scale.
Glad your able to experience this echelon of knives. These are the type of knives i typically purchase & collect when entering $400 and up pricing…..When production knives pricing start elevating into the $400 & up I automatically will just start shopping for “semi-custom or custom”models instead since your $ is obtaining so much more when comparing to a high-end production models to a semi-custom & custom models like Herman’s offer. You just cannot compare the hand-work & small fine details that your small, semi-custom shops provide & the hand work & details that go into these types of knives from small semi-custom shop’s like Herman’s.. Your dollar commands so much more when getting into this echelon of knives so it’s always something to consider when your looking at a $400-$600 dollar production model. You may just want to start looking at a semi-custom knives because of what your dollar is buying in return… totally worth it if your already were wanting to spend $400-$600 on a production knife regardless.
The sound on that opening and closing is so different from most knives that I’ve heard on YT, not sure if it’s the steel or the design or a combination.
Nice
I love Herman's knives though the price points are beyond what I can afford. Beautiful knives and great designs.
$700 - $1000+ ?? Slightly out of my budget range. I love the Ishtar knife, but I have other financial obligations that have to be met. Thanks for letting us have a look ( and listen 😄 ).
👊
I have seen a similar finish on fancy silverware.
Just got an Ishtar. Its amazingly good. Up there with Shiro and Koenig but at a better value imo. Next will be a Herman Ovium for me. Love the sheeps foot blade on it. Cant wait. Great content. I see great things to come from Herman. Already looking forward to the next.
It's soo good right! So far the Ishtar is my favorite from HERMAN I wanna try the Dragon fly next
Great choice. Can't wait to see a review.
I had a Dragonfly and I know it had been sharpened but it was a brick. Very thick behind the edge. I'd like to try something else from them.
i havent tried one of those both the ones i have have great geometry maybe it was an older one, he also has some in hollows as well
Jared my banker may be giving a call about the collateral involved in my loan for this knife so. I thought I’d give you a heads up.
appreciate the heads up , avoid all calls from Bankers gotcha lol
Do you get to keep it ? 😮
Damn dude sick detent. The only comparison I've felt is on my SBD mini Evo with the nub. This sounds crisper.
yeah its probably 3 times as crispy as the sbd
Man l wish l would have grabbed that Black variant!! Just didn't really have the funds!! 👊🏼
I'm about to buy a sting in the next drop but your comment about the Ishtar being "even more smooth than your sting" (paraphrase) has given me pause. I own an Ishtar and it's not really mind-bogglingly smooth it's actually comparable to my Chavez kickstart but lighter in weight obviously.
Anyway, if a sting is not as smooth as my Ishtar then it's not worth the price he's asking. That's my takeaway. Am I wrong?
How do Herman knives compare to Shiros, Holts and Koenigs?
Maybe I will do a video on that, they are definitely in the ball park.
@@NeevesKnives would be cool. Specially for those like me who can’t afford buying them all
Almost like a mix or orange peel and hammered finish
yeah kinda
So, two Herman Ishtars later... The first one was absolutely perfect. The second has completely different action, mostly due to a way way stronger detent (like, causes dents in your flipper tab finger strong). First one has a guillotine drop shut action, second does not. Both appear to have the same ceramic detent ball, at same height, but i suspect the liner lock on one was bent significantly stronger than the other.
Some other differences i've noticed - both were nominally stonewash blades, but the finish is noticably different from one to another... one looks like a mild stonewash, the other like a belt sanded brushed finish applied over a stonewash. Odd.
Jfyi, Herman will tune your detent to your liking at any time you can send it in. Also you can technically tune it yourself if your comfortable
@@NeevesKnives Yeah, was thinking of just taking it apart and tuning it, but then - maybe better to send it in considering the price. It's also developed lock stick as i was breaking it in. I think the angle of the lock bar vs. the tang mating surface is off and it's catching just the edge.
@@NeevesKnives Managed to iron out the lock stick, now it just occasionally squeaks. But anyways, figured out why it's so different from the first Ishtar i got - different blade stock. First one was 3.2mm, the second is 3.3mm! Even says so on the certificate (completely missed it). Might seem like a small difference, but little bit goes a long way with locking and mating faces...
The finish on the blade might be an orange peel finish, but I’m not sure
no i have a lot of orange peel this is very different
Yah ! SINGS like a song bird ! BA DING ! 🤘🤩💥💥💥 ding ,
Action is better than . .... .. . Insert anyone. 😮😂!
I just used your link to pick up a herman, I loved my vespertilio wharny so much I had to have a sting!
dude that is awesome hell yeah, let me know how you like it
If that finish was on a metal framed pew-pew, I think it would be called stippling.
Herman ever do any lefties?
im not sure its possible
Wow. How about a giveaway? Lol
well see
Superdope.
slicey af
Double click upon opening gives it that sound yeah yu right🔪✌️😎
my jorts just got really tight...
💪💪💪🇵🇱
lowercase comment!
It sounds like a bird
lol
For $700 it had better seem that nice
agreed
Maybe overhyped just a tiny bit? Just saying…
Have you tried one?
