Yeah. Good on ya Robbie. I started a couple of years back and love it. Easy releases. Easy hook removal from nets, clothes and everything else non fish related. Well worth it. I ain’t’ going back to barbs.
I know you don't like circle hooks, but I do and I always crush the barb down. I mainly target Salmon and Bream so I suppose they also give a bit more of a constant pull when landing them. It does make releasing them a hell of a lot easier though. Great video once again. Thank you.
what a lucky jackpot robbie. prime flatty hole. very relaxing and entertaining to watch your videos, caught a bream the other day on st kilda pier and had a feed of fish tacos, happy fishing!
Nice video again well done.I see people pushing there ideas are best.I always say what works for you and give you confidence and make you happy to go fishing 🎣
Thanks mate. I agree 100%. I NEVER push my ideas on people. My theory has always been to show people what works for me, but I never believe that my way is the only way. I get told every single day that I am doing things wrong. Haha
Good on Robbie👍🏽. If I use trebles I flatten the barbs to help the fish and my hands but I’ll be trying the same on single hooks after watching this vid. Al
Robbie, your enthusiasm always makes me smile! Thanks so much👍 here in the U.K. most club fisheries require barbless hooks, although you might get away with the micro-barb! If your hookup and loss rate are about the same, then just for the welfare of the fish stocks barbless is surely the way to go! If we needed these beauties for food then it’s a whole different story😂 As always thanks for all your hard work, much appreciated. Kind regards from deepest Dorset 👍🇬🇧🇦🇺
Hi Clive, thank you so much for your kind words mate. That is so true, if the rate if loosing fish is no worse than it is when using barbs, then there can only he a good outcome..
I think barb-less is a good way to protect fish in the catch & release scenario. I did a recent fishing trip to Lake Nillahcootie and I was catching lots of under sized yellows but 8/10 were getting deep hooked, no matter what hook/rig I used and there was no way I could extract the hook without serious damage to the fish, so I just cut the hook off. Then I started crimping all my hooks and I was able to extract hooks without major damage for release. So my next fishing trip I will changing to barb-less hooks from the get-go.
Thanks for sharing - the jury is still out for me but I might try it on my next outing. Love the underwater shots - great video and loving your content..
Hiya rob Lovely adventure, and a nice stamp of fish...most of our private fisheries are barbless hooks only , and you are right about keeping tight line , it's the difference between success and failure....thank you rob. Best wishes to everyone. 😎🏴
My Grandfather only fished catch and release and swore by barbless hooks, but have never tried them myself. I use circle hooks to help with releasing the fish, but might give this a go. Very good video Robbie, even the singing wasn't too bad LOL
Thank you so much..yeah the hand is on the mend thanks. I'm not sure what happened, I suspect it may have been a spider bite. I got crazy itchy and scratched just a bit too hard. LOL 🤣

We shouldn’t have too much wind noise but we could have some issues with fluctuating audio” ……. You were going to fart weren’t you 😳 Your all excited about the barbless hook ups but I’m looking at all these healthy trout you kept hooking up in dirty water. That’s a seriously good session in tough conditions- well done👍 Thanks for sharing Love your work Healthy habits
I fish barbless in freshwater Robbie. Mainly because I catch and release in freshwater. You will lose a few but I've had a trout come back for the same fly it ate minutes before, barbless is like a mossie bite compared to having a tooth pulled! Beautiful fish you caught there mate keep it up!
@@robbiefishing No worries mate. Did ya? Yeah.. the poor power station was unindated. Power Core workers done an amazing job trying to keep up tho. And we were lucky to only be out of power for 2 days. I live across the road from that power station near the lake
Unless I'm fishing for survival, I'll always fish barbless. Yes, you can loose the odd one but if you keep decent tension on the line, it's not an issue. And it makes releasing so much quicker and easier.
You are the number one young felah, l was ignorant on what the barbs can do to the fish. I am going to squash them barbs to make it a bit more humane on the fish and whatever it catches on when in my car.🐟🐟🐟
Great video Robbie, I went trout fishing today as well but no luck mate. Dirty water and I think my soft plastic was a little bit to light? I virtually used the same jig head and same colour lure as you 👍🏼
Thanks Wayne 👍. A heavier jigjeads is easier to fish in fast water. In saying that,, provided the water gas a relative clarity the trout should still see it and strike if interested.
A barb may actually prevent the hook from penetrating properly. Ever found difficulty getting the barb through a strip bait skin? So it could be a case of swings & roundabouts. (Except for a release which is ALWAYS easier on the fish when barbless)
What a great session Robbie. Quick question, when bait fishing with worms, mudeyes or yabbies, do you think crushing the barbs will lead to losing your bait a bit too easily? Keen to give barbless a go though.
Thanks Bruce. To be honest I am not sure. Perhaps I need to try thst in a future experiment. I suspect the bait will fall off more easily which could be a problem.
People mentioning circle hooks as an alternative. It's kind of a different story altogether .They were designed for a baited hook on a longline to go down a fishes gut ,but then as the line tightens it comes back out ,turning at the fish's mouth on the way out and hooking the lip as the fish moves away from the angler/longline. So bait...yeah. Artificials ..maybe not. Most fish have a lightning fast rejection/spit reflex once they realize they're being tricked so you probably want a normal open gape hook to jag anywhere it can . I lost whiting one day, one after the other until my buddy said "stop trying to jag em you Idiot..let em hook themselves, we're using baited circle hooks". So there's a bit to think about..Horses for courses....Top video Rob
Thanks so much Paul. When it comes to using circle hooks I am terrible. haha I have tried it a couple of times, and just like you I always strike and miss. LOL
Thanks mate. I think something g may have bitten me, and I scratched it waaaaaay to hard. The itch was unbearable. Thankfully it is healing quickly now though.
Oregon State University has research that proves you get deeper hook penetration with barbless, less damage to fish due to smaller hole, the hook comes out easily once you are ready to pull it out, so if you crush it down like you did there is no longer a fulcrum point for the hook to wiggle and cause further damage. I am most a self taught lifelong flyfisher and always use barbels and very rarely lose fish. Also, I have caught over a thousand winter steelhead and have always fished barbless from bait to spinners and spoons to jigs, barbless is far superior when considering the fishes well being, as well as your enjoyment of catching more fish.
@@robbiefishing no worries mate, I love your family friendly productions and the way you bring joy to others through your incredible energy. Keep being you!!! 🙌
