Hey! Thank you soooo much for this video, it was so helpful! I have two questions though, but I'll try to keep it short.
1. The agency I'm with mentioned something about luggage tax when you either land in New York OR you arrive at the hotel for orientation. I actually wasn't aware of this until just a few days ago. Do you know what they might be referring to and how much it costs, roughly?
2. Sending money home. Is this possible? Would I need to open a new (U.S) bank account once I arrive or is it possible to get paid in my South African account, can SA Standard bank cards be used over there? One of the main things for me is to be able to send money home, and I'm just wondering if it's possible, and if bank fees is going to be a massive obstacle.

Yes I think your age is perfect, the older the more experienced,so I know host families would lean towards your age.
All Au Pairs get paid $200 a week , you can earn extra money from your host familie if they are willing to pay you more for extra work ect. The parents laundry or cleaning bathrooms.
I think the easiest way is to join a group like church or go to AuPair meetups 💌

is being an au pair extremely stressful like from a scale of one to ten what would you give it and how does it impact your mental health? Also are you introverted or extroverted and do you recommend being an au pair even if youre someone who is introverted and more on the shy, really needs their alone time 70% of the time vibe.
I think it really does depend on your host family and the relationship you have with them. With only my experience I will give it a 7 1/2 . I think it can go one of 2 ways. It can be very good or very bad for your mental health . In my experience, I have felt lonely a lot , which can lead to me laying in bed the days I’m off lol.
I wouldn’t really recommend it for introverts only because you have to make new friends and build the relationships around you from the ground , which takes a lot of communication and spontaneous conversation if you are trying to make new friends , nevertheless it can definitely be done !!!
This is just my opinion and based on my experience. 💌❤️

Can you have a job even when you work as an au pair?
Unfortunately if you are on a J1 visa (which is what Au Pairs get ) you can’t have a different stream of income 🥹❤️
