Hello all! I made a mistake (as pointed out by a commenter mere HOURS after this went live). At 1:10, the button actually is there; it's just hard to see. I thought the lines below the window were something else, but brightening the image makes it unmistakable.
As for Woolworth's (18:21): There are stores around the world that use the name Woolworth, but AFAIK these are unconnected to the F. W. Woolworth company known as Woolworth's in America. I cut this explanation from the video because I thought it unnecessary and boring; seems now I should have left it in!
This overthinking series is showing me so many little animation details I never knew. I knew of some of the more popular ones, but man, the crew for the first run of the show REALLY cared about the show. I love every run of Futurama, but there’s no question the first couple seasons were incredible
I love the Wax Robot. "Is there some reason that a robot made of wax can't take a nap standing up in the middle of a bunch of wax robots, or does that *_CONFUSE_* you?!"
One of the funniest one-off characters ever!
I appreciate you called that thing a drum and not a barrel.
this series is bound to get you a good following. there are so many seasons of futurama that you could feature exclusively this on your channel for literal years. personally, im here for that ride if you choose to take that route. i truly love this idea and your sense of humor is incredibly witty and funny. thank you for having the urge to make a youtube channel.
The lack of Fry and Leela in the top down shot always bothered me too. Now I’ll always see them.
18:41
Woolworths is still around in Australia, it was a name change from Safeway. Same with Coles changing from Bi-Lo.
17:35 No way you did that. The timing was perfect.
Came here to say the same thing! 😂
Chaotic Neutral CinemaSins in the best way possible
15:34 I love how that robots mouth seems to also be his neck since it’s what’s keeping his head on.
"Remember commercials? Good thing we don't have to worry about that anymore-" Ad break suddenly
same happened to me.
Feels like I've been waiting months for another episode. Was hoping it didn't turn out like others who upload a few episodes then quit. Good to know that they just take something and the uploader is likely busy. Good to see the series back. Love the spontaneous song. Of-course, who could have forgotten him from Free Will Hunting. Keep the video playing while upping the population count, compelling. Perhaps some people find the narration voice soothing or enticing.
It's heavily implied that Bender gained sentience when he was electrocuted in the first episode. Before that he was only capable of obeying his programming. Although the depiction of other robots definitely makes things less clear.
I suppose he gained independence rather than sentience, he's still only capable of obeying programming but the programming is almost reversed
18:21 Woolworths still existed in the U.K. up until the 2008 financial crisis caused it to go under, so this joke never felt particularly out of date to me. Although by 2001 they had changed the name of their U.S. Stores to Foot Locker. So I do think when this originally aired in '99 this joke did still make sense even if the Woolworths brand was kind of on the way out as it became an online shopping brand in the U.S.
Woolworths is still a major store in Australia
The Tv/CinimaSins reference killed me! 🤣😂😂 I love this series and can't wait to see more from you!
ahh, a canadian who likes futurama. nice to see more of us around
I know quite a few, myself.
My brother just finished rewatching the series for the new season, and you definitely had me noting every single “ask” in the show 👀
In the courtroom scene, when Fry says "call technical support", the chain between his handcuffs is in front of the cage bar instead of being behind.
brought a whole new meaning to "i use arch btw"
I'm seriously loving this series. Keep it up!
Wait wait wait! "If only I had two or three minutes to think about it" was followed by a commercial break?! I've seen this episode so many times, but never on broadcast TV, and I could never figure out what that line was about!
The button is totally there at 1:14, it's just a tiny bit lower and slightly to the right! You even point to it at 0:38, lol.
If it's not the button, then it's small red circle inside a square, placed in an eerily similar location.
Technically correct. The best kind of correct.
I give this comment five stamps.
the robots are definitely nude, so whether or not the tagline is accurate comes down to whether you consider the robots to be "alien" or not.
That's fair. I don't believe they'd be considered aliens since they're products of earth made by earthinglings. Least I think
I love how 17:37 is just black so the video is more likely to put in an ad (or it was just put it there manually). Either outcome is equally funny
I had an ad break there! It got me laughing hard.
Woolworths was in the uk up until the 2010s also love the long style videos
The sharpened stick line is, without question, a reference to War of the Worlds.
25:00 The Buffy poster is a tracing of the iconic Forbidden Planet poster, which features Robbie the Robot carrying a limp blonde woman that never appears in the movie.
Fun related fact: my roommate has a retro themed movie poster for the Buffy TV episode musical, "Once More With Feeling."
You're right, the yellow text and the foreground action does make it reminiscent of Forbidden Planet. I'm curious about the flying bats and what looks like a staircase in the background. Usually, the details they choose to include in the parody somehow relate to the original. Still, this is the closest I've seen thus far!
I’m so glad you’ve given us more Futurama overthinking to overthink! I especially loved the missing sections of animation and the glitchy way the edit points were stuck together.
Man, I wish you had started this like five years ago. Keep at it, because this is one of those things where you come across one and then watch them all in order. There are people who will become fans of Futurama because they first binged your content.
3:16: It's A Thing to hold up signs saying "John 3:16" at sports events. Not sure why. I forget what that Bible verse is.
Zoidberg's Zipper: This is a subtle play on his crustacean ancestry. Lobsters urinate from near their faces (often as part of communication and mating rituals). Since Zoidberg has crustacean ancestry, it makes sense he'd pee from near his head.
Hermes and the Pidgeon: We see in other episodes that going online IS a Matrix-like thing. The Near-Death Star and going online do this, for example. So it's not unreasonable to think that Hermes has his senses occupied with the hologram. The injuries....I got nothing.
Sharpened Stick: Yeah, War of the Worlds. Though there's also a potential Monty Python reference there. Someone should have shouted "Shut up!!" at the show. Missed opportunity.
Falling to their doom: We don't actually know they fell straight. It could be a slide thing, like how you get to Robot Hell.
John 3:16 is "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." It's a pretty common passage for sharing the good news and trying to give people an idea about what Christianity is all about. I see it alot in my Christian circles.
I appreciate the videos and all the tiny nitpicks. It amuses me when you find the flaws in something while improving my appreciation for tiny details i've missed.
Bro I forgot how much I missed you. I saw you posted on Twitter yesterday and now a video! Yay
You are too kind!
Idk how long you plan on riding this channel out, and I know it'll take years to do every episode but please don't stop, you're the only good Futurama UA-camr out there!
U should check out Johnny 2 cellps
7:06 the line attached to the blurnsball clips through the pitcher at least once when thrown, if not twice when hit as well.
The commercial break bit made me spit my drink out
I checked almost every day for the next one to come out... its finally here!
Thank you thank you for timing that ad so well!!!
Please make more. You have brought a fresh breathe of light to this show. I try and rewatch each ep every year sometimes more than one. But this is the cherry on top.
Wow, 2 nicholas cage mentions in one video! We really are blessed
Yes, the robots do seem to have a lot of freedoms, including what you brought up, but I can’t help but think about how in many episodes Bender is openly referred to as “property” of planet express. So granted, robots do have freedoms, they still seem low on the totem pole of earth society. Freedoms don’t always guarantee that a group of sapient individuals aren’t going to be treated like crap by society. Also on the note of “are the higher robots sentient, or are they just programmed to seem that way?” I think the most recent episode All The Way Down might have the answer to your question!
This is the type of content I like to see.
dude i love this. its so random and i actually learn stuff
This is what Cinemasins wishes it was. Great video
They don't wish to be anything but to maximise profit from minimum effort; they don't give a crap about anything else, especially movies.
Good episode of breakdowns! It seemed like it had more skits than normal, but it was good anyway!
17:35 For those who have UA-cam Red: Yes, he put an AD break there.
Touche.
Also for those with ad block
"Physics, am I right?" The blernsball is tethered to the pitcher's mound by what seems to be an elastic cable, so the path described is not COMPLETELY unreasonable.
Is there some reason a robot made of wax can't take a nap standing up in the middle of a bunch of wax robots, _or does that _*_confuse_*_ you?_
Also, when trying to find the poster to "Creature From the Black Lagoon" which reminded me of Buff-Bot the Human Slayer, two posters with much greater resemblance: The Day The Earth Stood Still, or possibly Tobor The Great. Give em a google, tell me what you think.
i asked chatgpt to write a joke about the scene where the robots watch the human movie, here is the response in full
Why did the robots in Episode 5 of Futurama decide to watch a movie about humans eating robots? Because they wanted to learn about the ultimate recipe for "byte"-sized snacks!
LOL - fun fact, I had ChatGPT write a Futurama episode for me based off a premise I mentioned in one of these videos. It's pretty entertaining, but I don't know what to do with it.
@@Sceneometry maybe just post it to community notes or something, id love to read it
The ship doesn't move at all, it moves space around it.
This is a real science fiction idea that is theoretically possible. Bending space in front of and behind the ship with say gravitational forces... from ultra dense nibbler poop... would 'move' the ship faster than light without breaking the laws of physics.
It would be like if you could manipulate waves in the ocean so they were high in the back, low in the front, the ship would 'move' forward just from the difference in waves.
What, like a gravity impeller?
Yay! So happy to see another episode of this coming out :D Fun series!!!! fun!!!!!!!
17:36 I got an UA-cam ad at exactly that moment. nice coincidence
Awh man just came to the end of the video and i hate it, i wanna watch more like now haha 😂
Keep up the great work brither, gonna watch the livestream now ❤
I really need to pull the DVD's out and watch them all again.
@5:59 I agree, I was telling my friend that if the NFL was like 1990's WWF and had player side stories, folks getting hit with furniture, over the top costumes, I'd probably watch it.
Cubert would be proud
Indeed.
I'm sure it's been pointed out, but - when they fall, Fry lands more face-down and Leela with her head up, which is why their eyes are at different elevations in that scene, making it look like they landed at different points in time.
Also, most of the robots are naked, right? Wouldn't they now be considered alien since they live permanently on a different planet? :3
damn, never been this early to any video. Glad to be here!
Trying not to overthink it, but was the carrier pigeon joke funny because Hermes was the name for several aircraft carriers?
To me, it's funny because carrier pigeons are trained to carry messages. If the joke works in multiple ways, so much the better! :D
@@Sceneometry Heh, yes I thought so. As you say, the more levels the better!
Decision 32 makes me wish we had a Fallout Futurama game. Man, that'd be great.
I just want you to know I watched 10 seasons in the time it took for this one to come out. I started the show the same day your first episode came out lol
Was it your first time watching the show?
Yay, someone from Czechia is famous! I thought not many people even know my home country's location (it's in the middle of Europe, that's why it is called "The heart of Europe". When I think about it, there are some other famous Czech people, for example the composers Antonín Dvořák and Bedřich Smetana.
The difference between the two robots speaking is totally an Apple thing. One was Robo18, the other was a Robo19Plus
10/10 ad placement
I will most certainly NOT think twice next time before pausing!
Looking forward to more of your amazing Futurama content (I subbed 😊)
25:00 that movie poster gives me Creature from the Black Lagoon vibes, but I could be wrong.
Interesting. It is reminiscent of posters where the monster is carrying the woman. Another commenter mentioned similarities to Forbidden Planet.
Best one yet!
Thanks! I always worry they're going to become less and less entertaining.
16:46 fun fact, you can see the grid on bender's mouth not follow his head for a frame
11:10 I juat assumed a super sized haologram bird showed up and carryed him off
@11:10 in my head canon he was wearing VR on the call, and while dealing with the bird he trips over something in his office, and hits his head.
Nah, he actually got carried by the pigeon.
holy shit hes baaaaaaaaack!!
I'm confused when he says "remember commerical breaks" was there intentionally an add slot there on the yt video or did I just get lucky.
I KNOW!! I wasn't sure about that neither!! 😂😂😂😂
31:56 I would say that iMacs are the bad "apples" of technology
I see what you did there!
Scruffys wash bucket is in love with him and has the desire to be with him so i thank even lesser robots have sentience but society looks at them as lesser bings
perfect ad placement
You are very pleasant to listen to. More please
18:18 nah, those look way more like Brendon Small and the “just stamp the ticket” man
Woolworths is also an Australian supermarket chain, as a kid I always thought that was a joke about a supermarket selling costumes
Transmission fluid is often used as hydraulic fluid
the Mars Greenskins might represent Old native Martians. if you look at the chief where his skin is peeling and it looks like a chief's headdress that's due to his advanced age he would need assistance with molting like how lobsters are basically immortal as long as nothing kills them for as long as they're able to keep growing. the skin on that area is green so maybe the little green men comes from earthlings only seeing Martians dead up until a certain point in history, the green blood that turns green when exposed to oxygen, maybe the native Martians we see are mostly grey due to subterranean life, those flaps of skin are green because its from when the chief lived above ground because as the oldest living native Martian he was witness to the trade and the corrections are able to be made due to the historical alliance with the people of the planet Mars and Earth but they don't see each other all the time you either live on earth or you live on mars but besides that i feel like it's a cool way of saying the Mars Greenskins has the potential for a name change like the Washington Commanders but the team name is "Ancient Wise Ones from Mars" which is pretty badass actually but its a bit too straightforward and there may be a Washington Football Team transitional year or two because its one of those "lets get everyone to vote on a new name" where a toll free phone number was displayed on YTV in Canada so people can vote for the name of the basketball team which is currently the Toronto Raptors.
shoutout to my 24:22 freeze frame gang
ps, as a kid i had a crush on the drawing of amy so i relate heavily to this. it may also have contributed to my habit of crushing on asians these days. self roast over
19:27 didn't even talk about the Studio Ghibli: Castle in the Sky reference there
This episode was so influential, David Cage made a parody of it.
Also youre completely justified in your mac hatred. The amount of mac users who would justify paying for a single font is staggering.
Only if the font cannot be side loaded and has the apple ios store stamp of approval.
I don't "hate" macs per se...I used to use them a lot. But at the speed with which they go obsolete, they're too bloody expensive. I have a friend who produces music using Mac software, and he keeps it on an isolated partition with no Internet access so that automatic updates can't happen. If that OS tastes Internet and updates, it'll break his whole system and cost him a ton of money.
Regarding the "As boring as mom and apple pie" line, I'm suddenly really curious as to why Mom (the billionaire industrialist) hasn't lobbied the government to make such comments illegal or something.
1:56 but they increased the speed of light
Ah, yes. Very true.
Hah, I saw Phineas and Lois before you pointed them out
The pointy sticks line always reminded me of the Simpsons Treehouse of Horror segment with the monkey's paw where Kang and Kudos are defeated in a similar way but that could just be both shows taking from the same pool of science fiction references
so robot time (by my calculations) is 5.333r times the normal rate.
with that in mind, Robotica, which is stated to be 2 weeks on the ROBOT calendar is just 2.625164072754547 days (roughly).
18:26 we have WoolWorths here in South Africa! I don't know if it's the same but it's the same name 😅
yessss new overthinking !!!
HES BACK
25:13 makes me think of the Eva DVD cover but that’s probably wrong
While talking about Woolworths, (not sure if its the same) but in Australia Woolworths has always been a thing. Atleast as far back as 2001. (I was born in 1997)
32:00
There is an art error where Fry is holding the bar. Instead of the bottom half covering his palm, it's behind his hand, and the top portion is the only section that looks correct.
Correct. How did he miss that, considering being very meticulous otherwise?
2:00 In space, things move. Lets say the ship is moving (nearly) the speed of light. That planet is moving almost as fast. The PE ship is just slightly faster.
Yes, exactly. The question is, how did the planet start moving faster than light?
I doubt this is what they were going for but it's possible the round pupils of the red eyed robots are CRT electron beams, so most robots have old-fashioned pixel graphic eyes but they have old-fashioned vector graphic eyes like some arcade games
3:55 I mean... native Americans don't really have red skin either.
You could say the Robots at Work sign at 20:50 is a reference to Men at Work but I don’t think there are any real references other than that sign so….
the girl in the poster for buffbot the human slayer. looks like Bean from enchanted
