what confuses me about bender going to high school is the episode when he goes down a conveyor belt and gets a high school diploma in a few seconds.
Yes, I thought about that as well. Maybe he was networked to a class of other robots when he was getting his education uploaded? In any case, Bender's origins get a little muddy as the series goes on.
@@Sceneometry maybe the version of bender who waited at Roswell actually approached future/past bender to take it in turns so he could do more in his childhood whatever that is for a robot.
If i remember correctly theres 2 different versions of benders origin i think ones ghe conveyer belt where hes shown to be a child and one where hes built at current height
Bender is not a reliable source of information. He's an unreliable narrator. Believe it or not. Characters in stories can be, stupid, liars, simply mistaken, or even reliable. Given everything we know about Bender. Would you trust him with your wallet? Obviously not. So why would you trust absolutely everything he says? He's a habitual liar and a constant criminal.
He went through on the same conveyor belt
gotta update that “I’m already in my pajamas” counter now after the new episode 😂 They threw it in just to spite you
The "dead man's tracks in the dust" breaks my heart every time. *Then* you make a Jurassic Bark reference, which is an episode I've seen twice out of like eight full runs through the series. I'm not crying, Morbo's crying.
That's not Morbo, it's Lrrr. (Who sounds nothing like Morbo...no really...)
Seriously though, file Jurassic Bark under "sure-fire ways to make nerds cry." And that's not the only Futurama episode that brings a lump to my throat. But it's worse now that I've recently lost my own dog. Dogs, man...we don't deserve them.
@@Sceneometry They know how to make great scenes. Especially the music selections, like with Hermes and Bender as a new-built.
We may not deserve our dogs, but they stay with us anyway. They're the best.
When the cast reunited for a live table read a few years ago, I believe Amy's voice actor said that her little outbursts were things she picked up from her grandma when she was young.
The last point about the sign in the lunar lander... In the original airing back in 1999, it did NOT have the sign. It was later added when nerds and geeks pointed out the reality of the fact the lunar pod wouldn't have been there. Hence the reason it refers to the "Historical Sticklers Society".
While I am a nerd and a geek, the reason I realized the lunar lander wouldn't be there is because of common sense.
In the DVD commentary, David X. Cohen said he thought they caught it around the animatic stage of production. It's possible he misremembered but I'm not sure there's any way to verify.
The dog waiting forever for fry was and is one of the most heart wrenching scenes ever in a cartoon.
YES
Tbh it always gave me mixed emotions. Just the fact that Seymours loyalty never wavered spoke to me
At least in American cartoons
Not cartoon, Film.
The "bottle" in the eye of the Moon is a rocket ship (or space bullet, technically). This parodies Georges Méliès film-school-famous "A Trip To the Moon" (1902), one of the most-parodied silent films. Many other gags from this episode are from the 16-minute film which is in the public domain and here on UA-cam. It's really fun to watch, even more unintentionally funny now, and was an international success at the time. Another deep cut from the writers.
I always thought they just mixed old tech with the new tech because it was funny and it just tickles your brain
These are the best futurama deep dives that i didnt realize i needed. Im having so much fun watching these videos. Now im even more excited for the reboot. Please keep it up!
I interpret the scene with Zoidberg and his card as either it's some sort of flash card or the like of human anatomy or an equivalent of writing someone's name on your hand to easily remind yourself. That last on seems less likely but perhaps.
Yeah, it boils down to him trying to summarize all of human medical school on an index card.
I think it has a description of the human male and female anatomy, as Zoidberg then calls Fry a lady.
This series rules, youtube recommendations coming through with a banger.
The algorithm likes me? Yay!
5:35 The idea is that he's supposed to be an "expert" but he's shocked and then pulls out his notes, or his "cheat sheet" to see if Fry is lying to him. It's not a reaction you ever want your doctor to have.
I used to watch the DVDs of this whole series basically on a loop, I used to play futurama trivia games with coworkers. Love this show. Love what youre doing here 👍
Personal headcanon- In Silence of the Clamps, Billy West is not the biological father of the Crushenator's child. He is his adoptive father, as in fact Bender is the boy's biodaddy having gotten the Crushenator pregnant after their encounter in this episode.
Bender's child with the Crushinator was shown in the comics.
I like to think Sal just has a huge extended family of identical brothers, like Nurse Joy from Pokemon
4:35 the reason they have a staff doctor is because they deliver across the universe which makes delivering way more dangerous as seen many times.
The reason they have a staff doctor is actually explained in "The Tip of The Zoidberg". Zoidberg is kept around due to a secret pact between him and the professor.
Why doesn't he go with them on missions incase they need a medic.
zoidberg isn't actually there for the crew tho, he stays at planet express so if the professor gets sick he can kill him
you should make more of these!!! i’ll share them around
Thank you! The next one is mere days away...
@@Sceneometry i sent that one to everyone I could :) not gonna stop till you hit 1k views!! Good content needs appreciated 🎉
the card zoidberg pulls could be one of his notes like the one he makes when they meet qbert and fry says "blood is thicker than water" or it is one of zoidbrgs busness cards
“I could spend some time discussing why this makes sense in universe so I will” was slick
You didn't overthink enough! Leela and Fry's space suits have the design that was on 80s era Lego set astronauts.
the moon face reference that you got was probably The Smashing Pumpkin music video for "Tonight, Tonight" which references the film that Futurama referenced.
lololololol very funny. Love the details. Watched this entire (pre-Hulu renewal) show countless times but idk most of the hidden details, easter eggs, etc.
16:12 here from the future just to say that in the 3rd episode of the hulu run(season 11/season 8 wheter tour follow release or production order) there is the return of this catchphrase
That Arrogant Worms reference really surprised me. I love this channel!
It's funny that Phil LaMarr was worried about not being able to do a Jamaican accent for Hermes, when that's basically how he sealed Grim's identity in Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy
probably old news, but 12:00 I remember there was an interview with Lauren Tom where she said Amy's Chinese outbursts are things her mom would say when she was a kid. Your translation is about what I remember from it minus the "oops" part.
I love this! I’m currently rewatching it for I think the 3rd or 4th time and it’s really cool to see the some of the things I’ve missed
Ok, you get a like for that mom joke. That was beautifully done.
Farnsworth brought back the "But I am already in my Pajamas" in the Episode that came out today, How the West Was 1010001
Love this channel. Excellent work, subscription earned!
Just discovered it and... man that is amazing content. Keep it up
Incredible episodes. I look forward to join you on this journey!
11:17 is my favorite joke of the internet, youre good shit man, youre good shit
YOUR MOTHER
I never knew I needed your series in my life
All this talk about the VCR and the tapes used in said VCR is making me realize how long ago that really was at this point. I'm getting old, damn well on the bright side I'm still living so I'll take it lol.
I'm with you. My kids think DVDs and Blu-Rays are ancient tech!
i can explane the keys and magnet thing
you see its a electro-magnet meaning it can be turn on and off, that how the keys fell off the magnet.
Great videos! I'm just rewatching before the new stuff and your content is gold. Keep it up!
That virtual hat is what happens when you trip in the dark, you go into like 4 levels deep of doing things, you think of you thinking about you thinking about playing a video game
I like the added sign. Cause my first question when seeing the lander was if it was meant to be a recreation for the park cause the lander module shouldnt be there.
Gonna disagree with you on the magnet. I've worked with some pretty powerful magnets that operate similarly (you can turn them on and off, they're encased in an outer shell, etc)--specifically, for lifting 300 lb manhole covers--and they can be trickier than people think. For example, if the thing is at the edge or the magnet is tilted the power drops dramatically. This has led to injuries in the past. So yeah, I can believe that if the keys were jiggled, and the magnet was at an angle for a moment, the keys would fall.
Fair enough!
2:03 I love that Frank Welker is doing the ad read, since he's Nibbled and all
Did anyone else notice that the announcer for that VCR+ ad was the voice of Grandpa Phil from the Rugrats?
8:27 You may be thinking of the video for The Smashing Pumpkins -- Tonight Tonight" which was an homage to the movie "La Voyage Dans La Lune" or "The Voyage to the Moon".
Please keep these coming!! 🙏❤️
That was a great "your mom" joke. Well done
I just found my new favourite channel, this is amazing! Hope to see your channel grow!
For all we know cassettes will make a comeback.
A spool of ribbon is a very compact storage device, If a new form of storage can be applied to a thin, flexible plastic ribbon then bam, Casettes are back, but with miles of carbon nanotube micro threads of fiber optic material instead of magnetic tape. Cause it's the future!
thanks for making me feel old with that rant of VHS lol, good times good times...still this show is GOATed
You're welcome! Wait...was that sarcastic? :D
Yesnt
That snappy response was incredibly well done. Bravo
I LOVE THESE THANK YOU!!!
To answer your question in 11:15-ish, I once had an allergic reaction to pain medication where I essentially had incredibly vivid waking dreams. I can't fully describe how but I could move my arms within the dream independently from real life.
I assume it's similar to Virtual Virtual Reality where part of the tutorial basically involves training the player to "feel" like they are moving their arms... either that or if you remove the fake helmet in game then you regain control of your limbs so you can remove the real helmet.
A cool tiny detail I just noticed while watching this: 14:59 there's a cutout above the moon farmer's front door to accommodate Crushinator's height. Also the entire doorway is absurd, it's ridiculously wide and has just 2 narrow screen doors on it.
Wow, crazy how many of those things I found and are hilarious and how many i didn’t catch and are hilarious. Thank you
I suspect that the VCR++ is actually a coding joke; there is a coding language called c++ which is meant as an upgrade to its predecessor which was simply called "c". In c++, the syntax "++" is used as a short hand to mean "plus 1".
As for the moon thing*, chances are you saw the Smashing Pumpkins music video Tonight, Tonight from 1995. It features clips from the original. (*edited for spelling)
And yet, depending on what DVD/Blu-Ray, a VHS tape may have other benefits newer forms of media do not. For example, I have never seen VHS be able to force you to watch an advertisement and yet more and more disk based media will literally refuse to skip ads.
This is good man, excited for the overthinking meter get higher!
Dang I'm surprised you have less than 1k subs you deserve the million love these videos keep it up please 💯👍
Found this in my reccomend, and I *love* Futurama. So i think im gonna stick around, I hope you take off, friend, cause I dig this
I don't know why 15:52 "the buggalo eat hay?" broke me the way it did
Speaking of a race of transporter duplicates, there's a 20-year webcomic called Schlock Mercenary where that's actually a thing.
might be one of my new fave yt series ! ready for the new season!
Also, on the tech argument, retrofuturism is just cool.
Agreed!
These are great videos with fantastic observations. Liked, commented and subscribed
Thanks so much!
The Virtual Virtual Skeeball helmet Amy is wearing is reference to the maid in the Jetsons (Rosey the Robot)
I am loving these!! Keep it up!
Thanks! Will do!
8:30 idk about where you saw it, but that moon/crater face also appears in the book The Invention of Hugo Cabret
“It was a simpler time”, yes it was, however, we behaved like programming a vcr to record while you were out was on par with buying a pc for the very first time and deciding to give Linux a pop
That's probably why it was my job. Mom basically thought it was magic.
@@Sceneometry same ^^
Ah we never even realised the power we held over them! :p
For years i thought it didn't make sense that they wouldn't know about the moon landing, especially since they have nixon's head alive. BUT, if you think about it, it actually makes sense. You see, despite the ride being branded as "educational", it's still a ride in an amusement park that takes entertainment and fun before everyhing else. So, what I think is that they know exactly when the first moon landing was but didn't care to include that in the ride, so that they can put the whaling song in it instead
that crushinator ref caught me off guard lmao
I watched episode one and thought, "That was neat. Let's see what else this cat has".
Then I saw three episodes.
I'm here for this.
My head canon for Sal is that he is a cloned man similar to Jango/Boba Fett for blue collar work. The clones degrade a bit over time and leads to the progressing speech impediment. They also make for "great" canvases.
8:27 you might have seen the 2011 Scorsese-directed movie "Hugo", which heavily features the work of George Melies.
If you haven't, it seems like something that might be your cup of tea.
You recognize the creepy moonface mascot because the Smashing Pumpkins recreated the 1902 short in their "Tonight, tonight" music video. Thats probably where you've seen it before
Came to the comments to post this.
Well spotted. Was a good video, I remember how huge it was back in the 90s.
absolutely love these videos please do the whole seanon~~!!!!!
1 minute in and you've somehow missed that maybe the primary theme of the show is that its 1000 years later but everything is the same
it's not just "easier", its the entire reason futurama exists
I'm Canadian..I don't know that song at the end, but it sounded like they might be saying canada...turn on the captions and all it says is 'foreign.....music...' lol
I believe the logo on the space suits is a reference to the Lego space line, the logos are very similar in design and placement.
0:40 correction, the box was about half a meter by half a meter by 6-8 cm tall. Or if you were lucky, the machine was built into the CRT. I was born during the death of tape!
You might be familiar with the "A Trip To The Moon" reference if you've seen the movie "Hugo" by Martin Scorsese. George Méliès and his art is a prominent plot point to that movie, and while I remember very few details about the movie itself considering it came out 12 years ago, I remember it being overwhelmingly popular at the time!
Thank you for giving me more Futurama while I wait for more Futurama
Came back to say, the reason they dont have footage of the moon landong is because NASA accidentally wrote over it with other stuff...yes even NASA is subject to the "i accidentally filmed over my wedding video" problem
Can't wait to go through this series with you Scene. You've got yourself a subscriber! And if you ever change format, I'll go make my own UA-cam channel, with Blackjack and Hookers! 😂
Thanks so much for the sub! As for changing format...unthinkable. What would Executive Alpha say?
Thinking about the dog episodes is like a soldier experiencing a PSTD attack ;-;
the use of Paper and Paper Money is misleading, as revealed in Three Hundred Big Boys, bills can be re-written like rechargeable visa giftcards, and I'd assume the frequent use of Paper is similar, given that we see it getting inserted into a VCR like a tape and playing video, making each piece of paper a digital storage device capable of uploading its contents to other devices.
and as for Fry's surprising insight as to the Honeymooners, it's TV, which is like the one thing he's knowledgeable in.
8:29 I remember this movie being on Netflix ten or so years ago and the face was the cover and/or the preview. Maybe you subconciously remembered it from scrolling through Netflix back in the day.
Smashing pumpkins tonight tonight is what the moon guy reminds me of
In the comics Bender’s inhibition unit being screwed up DOES have him doing other things besides sing folk songs (Like confess that he had his antenna enhanced to be bigger) it’s in the issue where the main Planet Express trio dig into the center of the earth.
She had to take off the virtual helmet off twice. Once to remove the virtual virtual skeeball helmet and deactivate the virtual arm tracking, and once to remove the virtual helmet powering the whole system.
i remember those codes in the tv guide now. That was some high tech stuff.
I remember the codes too! Although I had no idea what they were for.
Well if you take the helmet off in the virtual skeeball it would end the interface for the virtual virtual skeeball.
I asmit i never put as much thought as you have into the joke. I actually really appreciate the detail cause your absolutes right in how it would work to the extent this makes perfect sense.
N before anyone says taking a virtual helmet off to then have to do it again for real is silly. Well you just don't appreciate that taking the helmet off in virtual skeeball is part of the experience.
I think maybe the moon face you recall is from The Smashing Pumpkins video for "Tonight Tonight"
I suspect the sign was also a minor jab at whoever pointed this out, since it calls the return of the lander an act of the "historical sticklers society." Whoever noticed the flaw would be the stickler in question.
Please make more of these!!!!!!!!
11:20 the “eye holes” are probably to let light in, like a view master. That implies that the screen inside the helmet does not light up? Which would be better for your eyes.
18:12
That moment is refelctive of the image of the earth from the moon called "earth rise".
In going to moon, we where able to look back and find ourselves.
3:11 I would be laughing my ass off and refuse to be called by my actual name on set and only by that name.
K, obviously very late to the party on this one: Craterface looks a lot like Moonface, a character from Enid Blyton's Faraway Tree books. There's lots of different drawings and styles, but his outfit is pretty similar. So I think he's meant as kind of an amalgam of the two.
Ha! CKUA says, "Hello, I live in Edmonton." Nice reference.
Glad you enjoyed the reference...I didn't record that show myself, though. :)
🎶 We're Whalers on the Moon!
We carry a harpoon!
But there ain't no whales, so we tell tall tales
And sing a whaling tune!🎶
Do you have a fungineering degree?!
@@Sceneometry I was one credit short :(
