Both my wife and I found that the main benefit of intermittent fasting for us was that being hungry became normalized. She'd get so hangry when hungry and eating regularly. But once she got used to being hungry, it was just another normal thing.

I once had an old set of professional medical Doctors encyclopedias from the mid 18 hundreds, I read nearly every word and my big take-away was that fasting was the most prolific subject, in fact even today in animal husbandry a purge followed by a fast is the first step in natural care for sick animals. Fasting was highly recommended for everyone back then - at least one day per week !

I got into fasting 4yrs ago. I started out doing it once a month and now I do it 2 to 3 times a year. I will do 3-5 days fasts. When coming off of a 3 day fast, by day 3 you don't even mis eating... just the habit chewing food!!:-) .. The nice thing is, now that my body has learned to live without food, it takes me about 3 days before I get back into a "calorically" regular diet. I enjoy the first few days after as I still have zero desire to eat, so eating a lot less is super easy and comfortable. It really helps the body to "Burn off the garbage" in your system. From this, my body can easily skip a meal without blinking. So if I over eat over... say Christmas, going the next day without eating is very easy because my body is not "needing" the food for energy. Fasting does more for cell and gut health, than weight loss. That's how impactful it is to our body.. in a healthy way!! .. Intermittent fasting, 16/8 is a great way to go for those who want to try this.

Kinda a long shot but here goes. Couple months ago I tore or possibly detached my suspesory ligament. Initial injury happened at a grappling match. Did realize it at the time. And pushed it down a pant leg when still a few times making it much worse. (Didn’t even no that was a bad thing to do a didn’t have any pain at the time.)
Now I got chronic pain, ed, no angle and 40% loss of sensation.
Can’t even talk to a urologist for another 3 months. Figure the ligament blood supply is compromised so I don’t even know if surgery is an option.
There is so little information on the topic. Do you know anything that could help?

I used to do that...fast and after my fast, I would eat junk food and other sweets, even overeating, thinking I was giving myself a reward for fasting. I realie it is not a good idea.

Some of the popular books on fasting actually advocated over eating in feeding windows, saying it didn't matter.

This is like a random catchall explanation to avoid cognitive dissonance, not a serious thought that could help evaluate evidence. Don't like -> dismiss all experts (where "all" is everyone but the preferred cherry picked experts/wellness influencers)

Everything needs context, and just as autophagy is real it's also sometimes blown out of proportion and taken out the context of how it works. There's for instance some types of cancer that can increase it to unhealthy levels, so some is good but too much isn't, like a lot of other things.

Unfortunately, we are own best advocates. Of course red wine is good for us. The study by the red wine growers say it is... who's pulling the strings in out government for school lunches...? The world is like a dumb dog chasing it's tail for cash. Who's diet information will they teach in school... etc...

You're saying stop eating carbs when it's not carbs that are the enemy but most processed carbs. Carbs are our friend and you will never be more satisfied eating nothing but WHOLE PLANT carbs. You'll get more than enough fat and protein along the way, provided you eat enough starch as your main portion. You'll always be full and satisfied for MUCH longer than any animal/processed product will ever offer.
Weird, how did the Dr. McDougall get an 80+% retention? When you give people the avenue and the easy results that his program provided you'll understand why nutrition doesn't have to be hard. Whole foods is the only medicine we need.

Maybe watch the video again, he never said that anyone should stop eating anything, he was giving examples of what people are doing.
