Most comfortabel race in the history of car racing.
they were probably all sea sick by the time they finished.
😆😆
@@Gracievision Or very rested.
Who`s turn is it to roll a joint?
@@martinmcdonald4207 🤣I'm in✌
Proves the amazing stability of the Citroen CX taking short cuts through the sand at full speed.
Not that "at full speed" in a CX was all that breathtaking.
Today would be all this stupid Plastik parts on the race track after contact with other cars... no stability in cars today
@@MrGoogelaar these were 2.4L GTI cars. Top speed about 190km/h The turbo2 did 230km/h , pretty fast for that time.
@@jfv65 For its time not slow but compared to the speeds those drivers were used to it was not breathtaking.
Maybe these sjeik´s were testing their version of the ´deux chevaux´...
I had the privilege of owning a Cx2400 gti ( ex - John Craven of " John Craven's Newsround") as my first car and it certainly coloured my view of what are desirable characteristics in a car. As with so many people I was eventually frightened off another with stories of complexity. If only I knew then what I know now. Fabulous car.
If you’re referring to the suspension, I’ve heard it’s not as complicated as most seem to make them, and with proper knowledge and tools you can work on them yourself
This was very controversial at the time.
There was a whole list of different races from saloons up.
The organisers and Arab sponsors were very unhappy. They had spent a huge amount of money on the track, getting the famous names from motorsport to come over and race.
Then some of the drivers didn’t take it seriously treated it as a joke and a jolly boys outing. Started cutting corners, driving across the sand, hitting each other deliberately and so on. 😖🙄🤣🤣🤣
Should we say their antics were frowned upon. 🙄🤣🤣
I can see why they were upset after the race 😂
bruh they even got the legend himself Stirling Moss on the grid
Great car! Had two for about 15 years. Never missed a beat and very very nice ride.
Thank you 24hrs of Le Mans coverage for sending me here.
😂 two of us!
I remember watching this! God I’m old :-(
When you are absolutely convinced, you have seen everything concerning motorsports... 😆
Looking at Google satellite image now, its hard to imagine how there was ever a race track there! There's still a Hyatt Regency Hotel, but other than that, it's like another world!
Hubnut is going to go mental when he sees this 😆
I'd like to see the 2CV version of this :)
Bring this racing into f1 this year ! That would be a race to watch 😎
Love the addition of late ‘90s F1 graphics😉
thank you!
Incroyable comme document
J’ai mal au cœur pour ces pauvres cx !
I can see it now,Citroen C4 Cactus challenge.Whos up for it?
Pazzescooooo !!
Grazie bella testimonianza
This is the best thing ever
Remember seeing this race on TV when it happened. By the end there were only two or three CXs that were totally undamaged. To add further to my comment wish it had been Murray Walker commentating on this. Would have been even more thrills galore there. R I P.
Stunning racing, so even, and not to fast. Real and relatable
Spottes a reale nice 2,4 TRI with turbo wheels yesterday pulling a big trailer.
My wife drove a ‘87 break automatic back in the nineties whilst I drove a ‘85 land cruiser. Come to think of it these cars which couldn’t have been more different where iconic then and are now
What a list of drivers!
The most elegant and unruffled race. As is the fabulous Citroën CX.
gorgeous drivers! and it seems CX rolls much more than usual!! :)
Best Idea for the race 😁
Just one word and question...WHY? HA, i still had to watch, and glad i did if just to see the legend Sterling Moss and my fellow Dubliner the great Derek Bell. Old school proper petrol head drivers. Respect.
Dimenticavo
Grande Bruno 🏆
Hogy mik vannak...hatalmas!Köszönöm!
Esto sí que es una carrera!
Why don't they do that nowadays? That would be a spectacular watch! Much more so than the drivel we have now.
I imagine most contracts forbid participation in this kinda thing these days
@@evo5dave sadly so
@@evo5dave Drivers would be no less at risk in a track prepped “ordinary” car. But driver appearance fees would cause the same cost issues.
@@davidelliott5843 Don't tell me - tell the F1 teams. They are the ones who won't let their drivers do anything else.
I think the main issue is about insurance and the fear of a driver getting injured, sadly
So cool stuff... Marc Surer aus der Schweiz 🇨🇭 auf dem 2. Platz... en avant Citroën !!
waouh sympa, les CX
It was a friendly course organized to celebrate UAE creation
Grande Bruno " Jack 'O Malley "
Id watch this today with cx's someone should start a league!
Mixture of saloon car racing rallycross and banger racing
They had plenty ractetracks in Europe but took all the CX-s to Dubai ^^
I wonder if cx is gti ver. and if they upgraded brakes .
I seem having to recall being in this type of race in my PS4!
Gran Bootlegsmo: The REAL Arab Driving Simulator™
Which cars?
Je valide:)))!
20:37 Subtitles : [laughs in american] 🤣
Tres Bien traction and stability in the sand (:
So these where actually brand new cars? Look how they look at the end of the race hahaha
very nice amazing i like
Marc Surer was very 'firm' in dealing with John Watson trying to squeeze him into the wall.
And I thought the Swiss were supposed to be neutral.
I'm impressed at how well the CX races, a little worried by the amount of smoke some of them put out
They do seem to handle better than expected, but still seem to understeer like a canal barge. I should imagine it was great fun and quite scary in equal measure.
@20:38 le sous-titre: [rigole en americain] 😂
21:07 ils ont littéralement traduit par "charabia" 😆
The most comfortable car for a comfortable price Ever .
Yeah, especially if some frivolous Saudi oil tycoon bought it and is paying you 20x your going wage to smash it to bits for a laugh.
What beautiful madness.
Stick a mixed batch of current, recent and very-ex drivers in a gaggle of Paris taxis in the desert and see what happens.
These cars look quite standard. I'm guessing/assuming that they are Series 1 GTi. Rear seats in place. A road car will always wallow and squirm and roll on the track. But for all that, these land whales look pretty good.
Thank you for posting. A surreal and entertaining little diversion.
At one level or another, this is something like a satire on the nonsense that is tarmac track racing in the Middle East.
Something like, but not quite.
more short circuits than a home made robot
Il s'agit de CX GTI ?
1981 24h of lemons
In the bends they are like slow moving blancmanges !
@hubnut I’m sure you have seen this Ian
I've just come here from Ian's latest video where someone (was it you?) mentioned this race in the comments, so hopefully he will see it too.
...And they all received boat pilot licenses afterwards.
CX is one of the safest car ever mass produced. Totaly different driving feel from any other car, accept another big Citroen from the period time. Steering tracking and breaking are unmatched.
These look like CX 24 ie, serie 1 of course.
Lol they just talked about theis on the lemans stream and its indeed as whacky as they said it was
horrible camera work back then
Ok, it's somehow funny today but in the days when the TOTL CX GTi was just about as powerful as the 2nd least powerful 5 series BMW (520i)? What on earth were they thinking at Citroen?
At least they are not so unreliable likr bmv.
@@jishimoari You mean "unreliable like your spelling"? ;-)
(Jokes aside: I never had any issues with the BMWs that I owned and neither had my dad.)
what the f..... is this checkered flag waved at 6:18 ???
I've seen some seriously rinky-dink, bootleg events and races in the past, but the Saudis never fail to top the list of disapointment-filled tryharding.
Emiratis. Not Saudis.
Dubai in 1981? people use to live in tents at that time
I was just thinking how much it's changed. Unfortunate that it'll be so temporary, dusty skyscrapers is going to be interesting
they had oil back then too!!
Lol you must be kidding. I was born there in 78 and everyone there was rich by then and living in huge houses and Dubai itself had malls and amazing hotels at the time
What? Lool
Shame some of the drivers had no respect at all and acted like fools
🤣
slowest F1 ive seen!!
but much more funny; I use the actual GP as infallible sleeping pill
@@TheOnlyVistosi 😁
