Landing In Bergen With Airbus 340

- Found this Gopro video in an old computer. It was recorded 2014 on a flight with Japanese tourists, from Tokyo to Bergen.
Airbus 340 is history at SAS now. It could carry a huge load and fly up to 14 hrs. A quiet plane with little vibrations thanks to the 4 relatively small engines, even if they were a larger than the CFM56s mounted on B737s. A super steady plane! ✈️😊

Takk Bjørn og godt nytt år! Artig å lande på min tidligere arbeidsplass BGO/ENBR. I 2014 var grunnarbeidene til den nye terminalen T3 så vidt begynt. Man kan se ett par byggekraner til høyre for terminal T2. Legg også merke til Norwegian's fjernparkerte Boeing 787. Den gang hadde de rute mellom BGO og NYC. Den samme B787'en flyr vel i dag for NORSE?
Jeg tror Norse har alle 787 fra Norwegian, mens Flyr har vel alle MAX'ene.

Thanks for that. As a passenger I loved the A340. Lovely looking aircraft (the best looking airliner IMO). 2-4-2 seating meant that if you booked ahead you could get a window seat & a aisle seat next to each other, and they were comfortable size seats. And I liked the feeling of security four engines gave on long over-ocean flights.
It got a bad reputation, according to my opinion it was a campain from B Kjos, saying SAS had very old and fuel inefficient airplanes. Sure, the A340 consumed around 10% more per nm than the A330 and of course more than the much more modern B787. That was B Kjos point. But the A340 could fly up to 14 hrs and the classic only 10hrs or slightly more. Furthermore, the A340 could carry more load than the A330. The A350, which SAS have now is much more fuel efficient than both A330 and A340 and as I find even slightly better than the B787. A330/340 and B787/A350 are different generations.
@@bjornpilot 10% more for same payload and sector length? I figured the extra fuel burn on the 340s mostly just went into the heavier weight when compared to the 330s. On the 500/600 it was especially bad due to the low seat density you get from 8 abreast (compared to 10 on the 777 it was trying to competing with) while the OEW went up by 35%...
@@wewillrockyou1986 For same payload and sector lenght. DOW is ca 5 tons lower for the A330 compared to the A340. The problem for a Classic 330 is that it is limited to 10hrs or slightly more, on max ZFW. That’s outside Tokyo to Copenhagen or Shanghai to Copenhagen flying time. The A340 could do it easily, also the A350. Of course the A350 is superior to both A340 and 340, since it’s a 30 years more modern plane. 😊

A340 at ENBR is a seldom sight. I last saw one chartered during lockdown. Direct flight from South Africa with oil workers unable to get home through normal routes.

Wow, but why the A340 to Bergen? Was it a charter?
Before COVID they used to fly a number of the regular NRT-CPH flights to BGO instead every summer. Most if not all of the seats was bought by Japanese tour operators.

Heard you comment on the slope after landing. I cummute offshore with helicopter from BGO, and I always look down the runway and think that slope/curve must complicate things.
