Homemade fence stretcher: a come-along + a steel pipe that you weave into the fence wires. I've successfully stretched and mounted fencing on posts using that with nobody's help. Use a piece of rebar as an anchor to stretch against. It works.

I have 2 oak 3" X 5" X 5' with bolts through them that my dad built 40+ years. It takes a bit of time to tighten all the nuts onto the bolts because he used a lot of them, but it works like a charm... We stretch it with a chain hooked to the tractor.

@@dixsigns1717 That is what we used... I do not remember if Dad said that was one of his Dad's or not.... I was thinking of all the fences I helped Dad with over the years. ...
OK. For Ben's fence- 1st real attempt to build this kind of fence by hand- minimal equip. 20+ yrs after instructed during that "half- listen -at -best" stage...
It is up. It will hold- for now... ... It will be a pain to go back and tighten it up.... that can be done when it is a little drier. = Success:

We are on the outskirts of Austin, Texas, and had a strange weather week. Low of 6 and high of 19 - los 20s on a few days. Lost power for three days and water for two. House average temperature was 50 in day and 46-48 at night. Thank goodness we didn't lose gas service. We did well as we had food enough for us and a few who were a bit underprepared for icy roads which kept all homebound. We have a small Die Hard power pack and a Gold Zero power pack that was not good for coffee pots etc. But there is always a pour over coffee. We melted snow to flush toilets, and got gas logs up and running after being out of use for ten or so. We entertained ourselves with NPR on a transistor radio from who know when and got back into Scrabble and Yahtzee. The down side is that we lost all of our garden. I had a lettuce bed that i had successively planted and would have lasted a month or more depending if I continued to plant, but alas it is gone. Oh well, time to start some more in the house. One lesson is that we will soon purchase a much larger solar generator that will keep the household a bit more up and running. And so it goes. Joy Giles

Absolutely! We’re in NE Mississippi. It started Sunday with approximately three inches of sleet. I’ll take that over freezing rain anytime. It continued of and on, finally finished BIG with 3-4” of beautiful snow Wednesday night. The temperatures have been crazy here too. I think the lowest was single digits with windchill below zero. This is Friday, 2/19/21, it was 12 this morning, at 9:00 it’s already 37 and beautiful sunshine ☀️ it’s time for this stuff to go... we people here in the south ain’t used to this kind of weather.
That baby girl is getting sooo Big. She is a beauty for sure. Wonder if she will be a tomboy with all those brothers or a Diva. At this point, only God knows.

A tip for brush hauling: stack a bundle of brush over a tie strap. Then feed the strap through the hook-loop and tighten and tie with a slip knot. Then use the slip loop and free end to hold and drag. You can drag more than you can carry.

We got the sleet, here on the coast by Galveston, lowest was 17, ice for 3 days, then half our city and most all of Houston had no lights and no water. When things finally thawed, every store and eatery was packed for hrs. and hrs. But no trucks could make it in and there wasn't any milk, bread, baby formula, orange juice or frozen goods. Thank the Lord that our family and some others have been preparing for over a year. Milk is the most missed item. Sure makes me want to have a farm and a milk cow. Thanks for sharing. Have a Wonderful & Blessed Day!

Hey guys nice video. I noticed something you may want to look into. Ben when you were under the pine tree near the pigs it looked like you had bag worm cocoons in the tree. They will kill your pine trees. All you have to do is pick the cocoons off the tree and seal them in a zip lock bag. Throw the bag out. It will help prevent the spread of them too. I hope I am wrong but look into it just in case.

Nicely done Ben on the fencing for pig areas. Stretching that stuff is a pain by hand. We did it with the come along, and a piece of wood with some hooks and wire because we didn't have a tractor. It worked, took sometime but it worked. A little MacGyvering, and you can do just about anything.

We recently learned how to tighten wire like this, on our orchard fence, by using pliers to add a crimp or bends in the wire in between the t-posts. Works great, look it up. Old wire is hard for sure. That and not working on flat land really adds to the challenge, we know this from great experience. 😀

I am concerned that all the brash from tree clearing is just being burned up when it can make biochar/charcoal. I think they are both worth watching as they have different methods and lots of information. Hope you find them interesting and useful.

We are a couple of hours from Bo & Kelly got down to 4 degrees. Lost everything in our greenhouse. We did not have a heater for it. Who would have thought we would stay under 32 for 6 days with Windchill's down to -14. Unbelievable. What it did do is make us think about what we need to do to be better prepared next time. I forgot that I had two oil lamps so after I remembered I took a bath with one of those going in the dark, the most relaxing bath I have ever had. No more glaring overhead lights when I take a bath!!

You always put your fence on the side of your posts that has the pressure on it. You did good. You need a pipe post with a kicker to hold it, to ankor your net to. You can use a piece of rebar or a small pipe to tie the wire to then ankor it to your end post. You can bolt two boards together over the other end and use a come-a-long to stretch it as tight as you want it. Yep I have put up a lot of field fence.

My original plan, to encompass my pig’s pasture with cattle panels came to an abrupt end when she turned several of them into pretzels. Electric wire is the best deterrent. Even when the power goes out, they won’t touch the wire; 13 joules commands a LOT of respect.

Fix a platform with an upright post that slips into the receiver hitch on Ole Blue for the roll of wire to sit on to unroll off of. You can then hook the fence onto the first post and drive however far you want and have the truck hold tension on the fence while you attach it. Have done this with tractors and 3-point attachments.

Ok. I know I already said this in another video's comment section, but it's still true. Your kids all having matching Carhartt coats is so fricken adorable. Carhartt is the bomb. People who dig ditches for landscaping wear Carhartt in the rain. I have long used their rain gear riding motorcycles at highway speeds and gotten to where I'm going dry. They are the desired garb of people who will be working outside in all weather.

I encourage you to rebuild the transmission. I had a first career as an automotive mechanic before I became a software engineer in my 30s. Automatic transmissions are so so so easy. Just be careful, step by step and you'll get it. You just need seal kits and disc packs. WELL within your capabilities. You'd also be fine with manuals which for me are more fun. You just need a hydraulic press.

Great bribe of hot cocoa Meg! I'm glad you had old blue to help you. I like all the trees for the pigs. Nice pig enclosure! Great idea to put the wire fence on the inside. They love to scratch against the fence. Great Vlog!

My 93 ranger does same thing with the transmission. Until it warms up, it will slip out of gear especially with reverse and it you rev it up, it will kick in. Been driving it that way for over 2 years so I bet it will keep going for awhile

Louisiana got hammered too 1st storm dumped 1 1/4” of sleet then 2d storm dumped 1 1/2 ice with ice storm. Trees are all covered as is anything above ground, causing major power outages including us and we also lost our water. Texas lost their complete Power Grid and water systems, hospitals are having to transfer patients due to no water. It is crazy what all is going on and this is a couple storms that have never ramped up this bad! Need prayers for many that are out of both power and water!!!

I see so many saying they are fossils too since they had 8 tracks. I had a reel to reel, cassettes, 8 tracks, records (even some 78 rpm ones), as well as the new stuff. My first computer didn't even have a hard drive or floppy drive, it saved it's programs onto cassettes.
