Been buying Guitarfetish stuff for over 10 years. They have great stuff. Do it yourself and do it right, will go up against any over priced brand named equipment.
I had a bit of a bad experience where they shipped me a strat neck when I ordered a tele. They were a bit standoffish and wanted to know how I knew that and I needed to send pictures. So I explained, sent the pics and they said “oh yeah; that’s a strat neck” and sent me a replacement. The replacement is functionally great-the best thing on the parts build it’s on- but the fingerboard is full of ugly dents and flaws. It just looks like trash. I was too tired to bother trying to send it back.
GFS's prebuilt Xaviere line of guitars is also really excellent and affordable, if you want a Tele style without having to build it. I have one of them and its wonderful.

His son Ric ran the shop for years and had Long & McQuade come in, which removed the Ostanek name from the storefront I had the guitar for a while, just taking the odd tab books to learn how to play songs. I moved around a few places, and it disappeared. Taken / stolen. I also had a flute and played the Pogues and Supertramp. I was better at that instrument. So now.. married years later in Ottawa, with a family and with Covid going on, a lot of people including me, are getting back into hobbies, crafts and interests. I came across your channel which is showing me options and learning in more detail how guitars work and how each pickup can really determine the sound and output of an instrument. You are also introducing people to cheaper alternatives which are more budget friendly and alternative companies other than Fender and Gibson. You also explain why the higher end guitars are more reliable and why people buy them. ( Even though they’re overpriced and you end up paying for the name or brand). But they are what they are. If I were to pick up a budget guitar now, I’d be looking at a Harley Benton, Schecter, or Xaviere. Guitar Fetish sells Xaviere guitars. It’s their brand. Great! I'll watch you put yours together before I do mine. I've had these parts from Guitar Fetish for about a year now, so it's time to get it done. My neck did not fit the body quite as nicely as yours, but a little sanding and it's good to go.
I built a tele from a Chinese kit before, the bridge drill out was put in the wrong spot and I had to pull the saddles all the way back to intonate it properly. I gave it to a friend of mine who doesn't play a shitload and he really likes it after I set it up and finished it so I don't really mind. It wasn't a guitarfetish one so it's not entirely relevant but for those who are looking at kits, especially Chinese ones from eBay or Amazon, it is noteworthy
Been watching your videos a lot but this series "building a guitar" is really fun to watch and also has some some good information for a beginners like me haha, great job Darrell🔥
I have original Gibson SG Voodoo pickups from my dads that’s neck broke back in the day. I really wanna build either a Explorer, Les Paul, or Tele with those pickups because they sound absolutely amazing.
Thanks, Darrell--been eyeballing these same parts to do a similar build from GFS for weeks, now I feel pretty confident in the quality. Looking forward to seeing Pt.2.
This is perfect! I just ordered the parts for a surf green tele deluxe build from GF last week. I will be using a Warmoth baritone neck though. Looking forward to seeing the results Darrell!
That's gonna be a cool build. I'm looking forward to hearing that bridge pickup. I've been thinking about one of those rail humbuckers for my Tele partscaster.👍😎🎸🎶
Was going to order a G&L ASAT special in green but times are a bit rocky and I need to go low budget. This video is perfect timing as I was unsure what parts to order for a tele build. Thanks so much Darrell!
I have the 15k Lil Puncher in the bridge of my Tele. In single coil, it's got a real Tele tone happening with less noise than the Fender neck pups. In HB it's a straight up rocker!
This is awesome Darrell! Coincidentally, I am about to start a similar Tele-style build with parts I just received from Guitar Fetish. So I'll be building along with you!
Hi Darrell from the uk. I love tele's. Just ordered your parts list, this will be my first build really looking forward to this. Happy new Year and stay safe everyone.
I built myself a tele a couple months ago. 50€ for Body and neck off ebay and the hardware for 300€, Seymour Duncan phat cat in the neck, bareknuckle true grit tele in the bridge and all the standard stuff. Sounds awesome.
Love watching your builds Darrell! This is going to look amazing when it’s done...hopefully it wounds great too. Really looking forward to seeing the progress. This has got me jonesing to explore a build of my own.
I used a harness from GFS and one of their Humbuckers for my EVH tribute build. Converted a Fender Starcaster and they worked great. total cost for a guard, single humbucker and harness $52
I have all the parts I need but the wiring harness. I has been out of stock for 2 months? maybe longer... I am dying, hopefully they restock this soon. Great video!
Ya wow, they finally fixed the neck heel width issue. When I built my 3 xgp teles none of the necks fit in the bodies. Videos on my channel. When I told GFS the poly was to thick and I had to open the body pocket, they told me that was part of building. But on one of the builds I bought a 3rd party neck direct from china and it fit perfectly as they made the heel correctly including poly. I also used the lil puncher set on my 3rd build and I like them very much. Was able to split each individually and I like that too. There was also a tiny bridge to neck alignment issue where the hi e was off the neck at the body on all 3 bodies.
Thanks for this. I wasn't sure about trying GF but once you put the neck in the pocket and it fit pretty good I put an order in right away. Can't wait for it to get here. And the next episode of your build.
Hi Darrell, I like that you are doing a budget build. I myself am doing a somewhat budget build but instead of a T-style It's actually starting with a 'Starcaster' By: Fender (cheap Chinese built) but the body and neck are full size Fender spec parts worth more than I payed for the whole guitar ($75 at Music-Go-Round) gutting the electronics and hardware replacing it with inexpensive parts from Amazon. most are a bit different that wuold be used on a typical s-type build. for instance 3 quad rail humbuckers with vol. and tone for each. plus coil split..and Yes quad rails means 4 coils and 3 ceramic magnets with 5 wire setup and 500k push/pull pots vol. and 500k standard pots for tone and .047uf orange drop tone caps. standard 5-way sel.sw. plus a 12 pin spdt sw. bypass for neck and bridge activation together in any position wired off thr 5-way thui the bypass to the output. Imaging the tonal variety available. And oh yes did I mention 6he 5-17mm piezo's wired in series attatched to the upgraded full size Fender classic steel trem block. the one that came in the cheap guitar was tiny pot metal and the wammy bar had been broken off in the block making it useless at best..the saddles and plate are fine. it's getting licking tuners ans roller tree(s) bone nut and a good fret job as well as a unique finish. I'm going with a logical continuation of the Fender naming sequence..they started with ther "Broadcaster then "Telecaster, Stratocaster and what i got the Stercaster so next wuold be logically "Stellarcaster" and in that vain the finish woll be a nebula print fabric covering and resin then hard shell clear coat both the bodyfront and back head stock and laminated custom made (extended to acomodate the extra pots) pickguard thin sheet aluminum, cloth resin, cleat acrylic sheet and hard clear coat. has to be layered to have the led's show theu at the sides of each P/U fir indication of which is in circuit at any time.wiring is fun to say the least, yep a Strat wired Like Les Paul but 3 instead of 2 H/B P/U's was thinking of led's in the fingerboard like Ben Crow at Crimsom Guitars but thought it would be prohibitively difficult for this built I need to enhance my skill set before I attempt that. gonna practice on another cheap pawn shop guitar first. Sorry for the smallnovel here but a lot of custom specs on this one and I'm exited to get this started soon as i have collected all the parts and materiels needed for the complete build.. the guitar is really not bad for what it is, plays good and feels and sounds good too for as cheap as it's built and what i payed for it. pots are crap and tuners jumpy a bit and the nut is stupid soft nylon once i got it properly set up it isn't bad and stays in tune fairly well. but i don't want to tear it down till i have all i need to finish it the way I want it to edn up. all told the complete build will cost an estimated $600 give or take.Includint tolls and other odds and ends. If I ordered from the Fender Custom Shop(which I wouldn't due to financial responsibility. (I simply don't want to pay an arm and a leg for something i can do myself) what do you think that would cost....I would estimate maybe about 10 times my investment in this project. but by doing it all myself I'll have the satisfaction and pride in my own work and have almost exactly what i want the way i want it or close enough for now since this is really my very first build and the extent and complexity in detail is not your typical first timer affair .but I have the confidense and skills to pull it off. Well,... I did completely rebuild a 350 Chevy V-8 In a "62 Corvette capable of a 10 second 1/4 mile at 14 yrs old.and i also have good woodworking and electrical skills.thanks to training from my contractor stepfather since age 12 .....so something like a guitar is sort of small and somewhat easier when compared with some of what I've worked on in the past. Only a bit different in some of the finer details. I do tend to bit off a really big chunk that I know i can chew up and devour with no real problem. no lack of confidence here whatsoever, and no lack of extreme verbosity either.. yes as well as a motor head I an a total motor mouth as well. Again sorry for typing what amounts to a novel here. your fan Kenny.... P.S. been planing this build for about 1 1/2 years now and will start when my wife approves the final purchases from Amazon,,,,lol Married 35 ++ years now....lol
Love the channel Because of you I bought a Spark amp Absolutely Love it! A Indio classic to hot rod Got it today, a Glarry tele copy to customize! Thanks for all the help!

That looks like it's going to be a great build. I have a Squier Vintage Modified Telecaster Custom II, with 2 P-90's. I'm looking to change the wiring, and maybe a pickup, and will look into the quick connect stuff.
I don't think you can beat Guitar Fetish. Their stuff is mostly of a very good quality and their prices are very affordable. I've bought a few bits & pieces from them and the only gripe I have with them are that their shipping prices to the UK are pretty high, and once you get to a couple of kilos in weight the price shoots right up to around $100. My orders from them have mostly been for pickups & parts and I've been unable to buy bodies, necks, or any other bulkier items because of the shipping cost, which has been a shame, and seeing how the neck and body marry in this video, it disappoints me even more about their shipping cost because I would like to buy a body and neck of theirs. It's a shame that GFS don't have a UK distributor 😎👍🎸
I have a violin to get fixed up, but after that I really want a telecaster. I have a mim fender that I chipped half of the paint off of 15 years ago that I need to locate and put some $ & time into. I love the neck profile of the telecaster.
I built a Stewmac LP style based on watching one of your videos last year (see thumbnail) -the video was a collab video with a tobacco burst LP style. I really appreciate you sharing these videos - It helped me renew my interest in playing guitar as well as understanding how one was put together. Kudos!

I have the lil puncher in both my teles. Best tele rail pickup ever!
I've had this idea floating around but with a bass. I might finally get around to doing it now.
Thanks for the vid! I’ve been wanting a cheap tele build for ages and i think this will be the one :)
Color of the body and neck are beautiful.
Might have to give it a shot.
Build is definitely gonna be gorgeous. Have you considered a pearloid guard perhaps?
It is a Tele Custom 72 type build.
The Deluxe has two humbuckers.
Good video 👍
Inspiring.
Thanks, Darrell--been eyeballing these same parts to do a similar build from GFS for weeks, now I feel pretty confident in the quality. Looking forward to seeing Pt.2.
Love the color, hate the pick guard style. I’m looking forward to this series
Great looking kit, build-your-own has definitely come along leaps and bounds.
This is perfect! I just ordered the parts for a surf green tele deluxe build from GF last week. I will be using a Warmoth baritone neck though. Looking forward to seeing the results Darrell!
Happy New Year to you, Darrell and to your fam and to all of those for whom you care. May it be a great one for all.
Looking forward to this next New Years build 👀
I want to do this, Canada man. Your video is giving me confidence, Thank you!
Saving up for a guitar upgrade later this year. I may just have to build it off of one of these kits… But I’m digging the TV Jones pick ups
I’m with you - love that Gretschy sound! I’m in Australia, so the Brierley Filtertrons have caught my eye.
I have the 15k Lil Puncher in the bridge of my Tele. In single coil, it's got a real Tele tone happening with less noise than the Fender neck pups. In HB it's a straight up rocker!
Great start to 2021! Now I gotta get some XGP bits to do a build for myself. Thanks Darrell.
You cant go wrong with that color dammmnnnnnn
I built myself a tele a couple months ago. 50€ for Body and neck off ebay and the hardware for 300€, Seymour Duncan phat cat in the neck, bareknuckle true grit tele in the bridge and all the standard stuff. Sounds awesome.
Ok Darrell, it’s been 2 days already! Part 2 Please. No pressure or anything. 😂😂😎
A creme coloured guard would look amazing with that surf green
I did a GFS build of the same color but it was with mini humbuckers.. Their P90 version. Same color body and neck. White pickguard too!
So awesome to see this build! Can't wait to see it come together!
This years begins well !!!! Can't wait for the next video....
I have all the parts I need but the wiring harness. I has been out of stock for 2 months? maybe longer... I am dying, hopefully they restock this soon. Great video!
Your neck description resonates: I have an '86 Squier Strat with an excellent neck. This should be fun to see!
Bea ...utiful ...you did good picking out parts and color ...I luv it!
I actually enjoyed this, been itching for a Tele thank you Darrel
I have always wanted to see an all xgp parts build, also wanted to build one of these myself. Can't wait for the rest of the videos Darrell!!
The parts look fantastic Darrell! Looking forward to seeing it come together. Happy New Year to you!
Love the channel Because of you I bought a Spark amp Absolutely Love it! A Indio classic to hot rod Got it today, a Glarry tele copy to customize! Thanks for all the help!
Happy New year Mr. Braun. Hope you and your family are blessed. Thank you for all that you did in 2020 making the year a little better.
Take care and God Bless
❤🤍💚Gabriel🤎💙💜
Thanks for the kind words! Blessings upon you too my friend! 😊
@@DarrellBraunGuitar you really do remind me of my highschool youth pastor from church...buy less Canadian lol.
That looks like it's going to be a great build. I have a Squier Vintage Modified Telecaster Custom II, with 2 P-90's. I'm looking to change the wiring, and maybe a pickup, and will look into the quick connect stuff.
Happy new year Darrell, thanks for all the trouble, making these wonderful videos. T. Oz.
"Less Real" is pretty cool for a logo on a kit LP. I made one up once that said Les Faux, easily made in MS Paint out of a normal Les Paul logo.
I ordered everything, as you had. Ready to build. The neck is loose as goose poop. Hoping that won't be a problem.
What are the odds! I just started building my very first build! And its a Tele inspired one aswell! Great vid as always! Stay safe
This is my type of series!! Great video
Good vid.Looking forward to the next. Take it easy on the “So Yea’s” !!!!
Happy new year Darrel. Love your videos keep it up!!
I built a Stewmac LP style based on watching one of your videos last year (see thumbnail) -the video was a collab video with a tobacco burst LP style. I really appreciate you sharing these videos - It helped me renew my interest in playing guitar as well as understanding how one was put together. Kudos!
Awesome video! Gave me ideas. I am gonna start my very first build soon..Going for a Fender Subsonic baritone I think. Can’t wait to start
I put witch hat knobs on my DIY Tele and they're so much better than the normal tele knobs which come loose and fall off at least once every 6 months.
