I don’t own an explorer, but my brother does, so now I know what to tell him to look for if the sunroof quits working. As far as the haters, unfortunately, they are always gonna be there. When you put yourself out there, some people deal with their own inadequacy by trying to run you down. I ignore them for the most part, but sometimes it’s fun to mess with them. They usually get their feelers hurt pretty quick and go away. I understand your frustration, but there are plenty of us who appreciate the effort.
Thank you for identifying which motor was in question. When I did my test I maybe pressed the incorrect button, did all fuse, wiring, and checks as I should to identify a motor that was not working at all. Welp, I removed the incorrect motor and put it all back together due to late night. I was scratching my butt and head all night until watching your excellent informational! I appreciate the video. My explorer decided to no cooperate anymore when I try to use the moonroof and the sunshade only covers works to cover the giant immobile glass. About to jump into it and see what I can find. Fingers crossed that it’s simply a fuse but if not, I now have the know key to change the motor thanks to you and your video.
How did this end for you?? On our '16 XLT the sunroof glass quit doing anything AND the front map lights only come on with the keyfob (unlocking), rear cargo (center overhead), and 2nd row left/right map lights, and now the rear 2 door windows will not roll up from the rear door power switches!!! All this at the same time. Never had any issues before!! Sunroof headliner/sunshade runs back and forth just fine for both glasses though. Fuse would HAVE to be to easy....
@@COWBOYZNATION worked out well. Pulled the roof down. Ended up finding water in the motor, there are two motors. Tried swapping them but it didn’t improve things. Swapped them back. And decided to not use the moonroof anymore. Few hours later I came out and the moonroof opened on its own. So I manually closed it and tested it with a hose. Then unplugged everything. The true fix would’ve been replacing BOTH motors and reprogramming it all. But if water got in there once, it possibly could a second time. So I left In inoperable
Great video! Thank you the actual Ford part number, and for going through the whole teardown. Idk what is wrong with people giving someone crap for putting out info to help them, there are so many ungrateful people in the world, gross.
Also make sure you clean out the sunroof drains, what usually happens is the drains get clogged and then water takes out the motor. Happens all the time on explorers.
@Elliejp55 there are rubber nipples behind the front fenders and some located in the rear of the vehicle when you open the rear hatch. We live on a dirt road, so I typically clean the front ones every couple of months. I just pull off both front wheels, pop off a couple of those cheap Phillips head clips closest to the firewall that hold the inner fender on, and then stick your hand up inside until you feel the rubber nipple. Squeeze it with your finger tips and it'll break up any buildup. It's that easy. To test it you can open your sunroof and pour a little bit of water into each port to see if it drains. Good luck!
Hello Rich, first time tuning in. Excellent video and information. I learned a great deal and think that you are "RIGHT-ON" regarding the folks that don't appreciate anything! God Bless you bro and i will stay tuned. Take care. Wagdi Mabrouk.
Left the sunroof open overnight in a driving rainstorm last weekend after I had a few too many and turned the ride into a submarine! Gonna tackle this next weekend. Thanks for the tips!
I changed out both motors and the switch to just make sure it was all new and my first subroof will open and close but my shade won’t open or close now and also I have to unplug that plug and plug it back in above the plastic for it to work any suggestions on what I can do?
Now my problem I think started a year or so ago, Pretty sure the drain lines I did t know about plugged up and probably ruined one or both of the motors, got everything apart and I'm at the motors, the sun roof is stuck open and won't do anything, The shade will only open and close on the moon roof part, My question is do I need to replace both motors?
I am having an issue with a 2012 Explorer sunroof. I changed both the sliding glass motor and the shade motor. I also changed the switch, but it still doesn't work. I did the reset procedure which worked just fine, but after that nothing. I can't even get the shade to open. What do you think is causing this?
I would say probably a bad motor or bad switch or an issue with the wiring such as maybe like a fuse issue or something to that extent so it would have to be diagnosed professionally

Same issue as of today. Drivers floorboard saturated, water dripping from overhead lights and switches, and shade will function over rear panoramic but will not close over front moonroof nor will the moonroof work at all
I just replaced the motor on my 2017 ford and now it does not want to completely close. It just closes all the way then tilts all the way up. No way to make it stay closed. I tried to relearn it but it will not respond to the procedure. Not sure why.

any idea what causes a 2008 crown Vic to have a wrench light and is in limp mode, the gas pedal isn't responding, the engine is shaking, and it showing codes P060B, P2104, and P2110, just trying to get some input before replacing parts
if those are the only codes being stored/active you might have to check the wire harness at the throttle body for proper voltage reference. should read around 5v which will be pin 2 on the throttle body connector pin 3 is the return. you will want to check the voltage between those two pins. if it is 4.5v-5.5v the pcm side should be fine and it may be the throttle body causing the issue. if you have no voltage reading at all you may have a broken wire between the throttle body and pcm. check pin 2 and a good ground, if no voltage present check the resistance on the wire from the pcm and throttle body for an open. it will be pin 66 on the pcm engine harness, it will be the connector with a lot more wires coming from it. if the wire ohms out at under .5 ohms the wire should be fine. if you still have no voltage there it might be a faulty pcm, but from what you're describing it sounds more like a throttle body issue than a pcm.
On my 2016 F150 lariat FX4 my sunroof had a wrinkle in the fabric so I took it in and after six trips to the dealer, and a whole headliner later, they gave me a fixed sunroof but now it rattles in the back. So frustrating. I don’t know what to do about it other than tear the whole thing down and try to find it.
I completely agree with you about the comments. I truly appreciate the insight. It may give me enough info to give it a try or to say this is beyond my capacity. My wife’s Escape is a 2014 and the motor is a different than in the video so I need to do some digging to see if the motor was just upgraded. Why anyone would bitch is beyond my comprehension! Thanks!
I don't know what you're asking me to be honest with you there's two different motors with two different buttons that control the shade and then there's another one that controls the sunroof I just not sure how to answer your question I think it's pretty much self-explanatory or you're just not asking your question right

if those are the only codes being stored/active you might have to check the wire harness at the throttle body for proper voltage reference. should read around 5v which will be pin 2 on the throttle body connector pin 3 is the return. you will want to check the voltage between those two pins. if it is 4.5v-5.5v the pcm side should be fine and it may be the throttle body causing the issue. if you have no voltage reading at all you may have a broken wire between the throttle body and pcm. check pin 2 and a good ground, if no voltage present check the resistance on the wire from the pcm and throttle body for an open. it will be pin 66 on the pcm engine harness, it will be the connector with a lot more wires coming from it. if the wire ohms out at under .5 ohms the wire should be fine. if you still have no voltage there it might be a faulty pcm, but from what you're describing it sounds more like a throttle body issue than a pcm.
@@CampinGHANDI throttle body is good
They had harness rubbing issues along back of intake manifold as well
@@FordBossMe I replaced the PCM today, that seemed to have fixed the issue
Hi. Would you know how to initialize the motors after installation? Thanks.
I didn't need to do anything special, I just used them as normal
On my 2016 F150 lariat FX4 my sunroof had a wrinkle in the fabric so I took it in and after six trips to the dealer, and a whole headliner later, they gave me a fixed sunroof but now it rattles in the back. So frustrating. I don’t know what to do about it other than tear the whole thing down and try to find it.
Take it back to them
Probably bent a clip that locks it into the metal framework- Or broke the clip plumb off.

Appreciate you sir.
Thanks!
Can you maually close roof unbtil part comes in?????
My thing is. How do you close the shade without opening the whole thing again? thank you
I don't know what you're asking me to be honest with you there's two different motors with two different buttons that control the shade and then there's another one that controls the sunroof I just not sure how to answer your question I think it's pretty much self-explanatory or you're just not asking your question right
@@FordBossMe oh wow. That was quick response. Thank you. sorry maybe I didn’t ask the right question. So my 13 explorer. Just started acting up. it has 2 sun roofs. One in the front and back. one in the front it opens and closes ok. But when i try to close the covering shade. It opens the front one again. don’t let me close the shade slider. hope that makes sense. thanks again.
I appreciate the video man
Liked your video bro, don't forget, haters gonna hate, just do you dawg.
I appreciate it
Can you manually close tilted sunroff?
Not really - I'm sure I could figure it out though
@@FordBossMe Yo! Finally got motor replaced! Now when sunroof closes is sticking up in the front drivers side now, really not sealing up front now...Any suggestions
Thanks for the info it was very helpful. God bless.
A good video! Thank you!
