The Museum of Off-road Adventure in Central Michigan could possibly be worth looking into. Could be a temporary home until the Jeep Museum gets on its way
Sell the JL and put that money on improving Sandy. Maybe name those future videos with Sandy as "The Road Challenged Me". Sorry man, I really love your JKUR. My 2018 is similar in color and I want it to have a similar look to it as well. I just wished those Ursa Minor tops were cheaper...
It’s a hard decision. My JKU is at 334K and sadly, I stray to think it will not last forever as I wish. The museum idea is the best one but is the hardest one to achieve.
Make sure it gets a new home. An owner who takes care of it, lets you remember it (and maybe take it on the pan American 😮😉) somebody in the community who understands and appreciates that it is a vehicle that will always be your home and child.
That's what I had been thinking for so long, but where am I going to store it? How will I keep it in running condition when I'm off having world adventures in the Jeep Camper? if it sits for much longer it's not going to age well.
Maybe someone in this community can offer up some free garage space for you. Again, if I had it, I would offer it. Someone who follows you has it though - I'm sure of it!@@TheRoadChoseMe
I think that this build is the best one you’ve done, as a Wrangler JKU is more capable than a Gladiator because of a shorter wheelbase. I like TJs a lot, but they are incredibly small. And, your current build is likely going to be heavy in comparison to Sandy.
Selling Sandy after she's given you her all is akin to selling your best friend. I'm sure with some tweaking she would be good for many more adventures. You've been a faithful servant.. I'm sorry Sandy, you're being replaced by a younger woman, but we can still be friends! can't we? 😭
I think many of us that have the quirk of getting sentimentally attached to vehicles deal with the issue your having. My thought in your case is at least Sandy is in the shape to be enjoyed and adventured in by a lucky new owner if that is what happens. All to often so many sentimentally loved vehicles dont get that opportunity. So there is atleast a small consolation that Sandy will keep adventuring and put more smiles on faces in the future. And the money from her sale that lets you continue your dream of adventuring is also a nice consolation.
Better than giving her to a museum - give it her to a home with someone who will use her! Plenty more places to got to - Mongolia, Central Asia and so much Siberia! You'll get plenty more publicity that way, too...
Spray with Fluid Film (or equivalent product) underneath and that will stop the rust. Your underside looks dry, I hope you do that for the winter use of Sandy, and on your new build from the very beginning.
Malcom Forbes was one of my heroes and mentors. And his lifestyle caused me to look at machines as tools not lovers. .... There are lots of Overlanders and one would be delighted to take over loving your baby, Sandy.
Man you really knocked it out of the park with Sandy. I wish you could keep it but 300k km is getting to the point where you have to rebuild the engine and that rust underneath needs to be looked at :/
You're in a part of the world where they hang skis and poles on the wall. I can't think of a place where they'd hang a bonnet, cafe or parts center??? 'The Story Till Now' might have some ideas. One motorcycle mechanic shop I knew in Calgary had a wall of shame - broken piston rod, ... You need a wall of fame somewhere. At least you've recorded the memories.
My life on the road started with a Jeep XJ, she hit almost 400K miles before I had to retire her, like you with Sandy, I have a great deal of attachment to "Green Bean" and haven't been able to sell her. I currently travel in (and live out of) a 4Runner but it hasn't been what I hoped it would be, perhaps I'm a Jeep guy. So, if you can't find a place to take her and you decide to sell to someone who would give her some more adventures, I'd be interested in the possibility of buying Sandy.
With all the money put in you could drop in a new engine like Venture4wd. Even thought I am excited about your new build, I still think this is the best set up out of all the ones you have done. Cheaper insurance, no additional costs. If you wanted to get creative maybe see if there is some way to rent it out like airbnb or maybe make a deal with a tour company like here in AZ we have Barlow Jeep rentals in Sedona. I am sure they could get a good rate and prequalify the renters for you.
In one of your videos you mentioned giving a gift to your future self. Imagine when your old still getting in the same Jeep you did Africa in, or taking grandchildren for a ride....
@JimmyDevere It's an interesting idea, but there's no reason to think it needs a new engine - it's still running great just weeping a little. I'd be spending money elsewhere long before I go near the engine
If you end up being in a position where you don’t need the sale money to fund your trip, and you do want to pursue some of the museum options but need storage, feel free to reach out. There’s plenty of us Canadians that have the storage room!
Hate to suggest it, but selling parts before you let her go (for ornamental/memories) might being in more funds? Patreons might buy lottery tickets to get the hood/bonnet, etc...? ;)
@@TheRoadChoseMe Sandy still has at least a few years of adventures left before the rust gets bad. Not a bad vehicle to travel around the continent for someone who has time to do it soon.
Maybe let someone else use it for a pan America trip and it saves them money. You would be like a sponsor for adventures for people who don’t have all the money in the world.
If you were to get rid of it, maybe put it on bring a trailer or cars and bids so its more focused on enthusiast buyers who will want it for the backstory. I agree that parting it out would be harder to see.
@@TheRoadChoseMe maybe reach out to Doug DeMuro, and see if you could collaborate on it. He sometimes does reviews of cars that go on there (His main focus is car reviews, but I believe he might be part owner at least of cars and bids). If you do it, he better give it a good Doug score 😂.
AEV wont take it? They have a few vehicles displayed at their Michigan site and ive seen this Jeep in a lot of their adds, so maybe something can workout there? Good example of their durable Jeep mods that got you through Africa. Cheers!
Get hold of Shawn from The story untill now or his buddy Casey , both are in B C and may know with some of their contacts someone who would be interested in Sandy .
Have you looked at the 4x4 museum in United Arab Emeritus? Andrew st Pierre-White does a lot with them. Unless you want to keep it in N. America. I think you give it the winter you'll find the perfect home for that old firm
@TheRoadChoseMe i fully understand your situation, but still, one day, you will be kicking yourself...lol. I so wish I still had my '97 TJ that I bought new in November of '96.
Maybe 4xOverland Mr Andrew Saint Claire can introduce you to the owners of the 4x4 museum in the UAE ( Offroad History Museum of the UAE) that sponsored his Friends cross the Canning series. 😊
I hate to break it to you but it is simply an old Jeep with a cool story behind it. The story is worth far more to you than to anyone else. If that story is worth 10 or 15k to you than keep it, otherwise sell it to someone who will use it. The story of your Jeep will be lost to time in short order. It's simply the way of the world. Your dreams of it turning into a "Museum Piece" are just not going to happen.
I disagree. With the Africa book, and the UA-cam channel, people will have an interest for many years. One of the Land rovers from The First Overland expedition in 1955, has been found and brought back to running order. In 2019 it did the entire 1955 expedition ( mostly) in reverse. Singapore to London. Now it tours the world with the help from Land Rover clubs. 3 of the 5 Jeep CJ 7s that did the Darian Gap in 1978 still are active with club members and draw a crowd where ever they go. Sandy will be of interest for many years.
If you have an idea or a lead on a good forever home for Sandy please let me know! 🙏

Take a look at the LeMay museum in Tacoma, WA. It is a very eclectic collection, and something like Sandy would probably fit right in.
I'm in Vegas. I have a few friends looking for a Jeep/ an off road camper. What are looking to get for it as is?
It’s a hard decision. My JKU is at 334K and sadly, I stray to think it will not last forever as I wish. The museum idea is the best one but is the hardest one to achieve.

That would be ideal, but I have no idea what the chances of finding that person are
I would keep Sandy if I were you. Potentially take her on future adventures when she is a classic. You have a bond with that Jeep and will miss it.

Clean her up, write her story then sell at Mecum! Some one will bite! 🙏🏼💰 💰
Time to let it go to someone who will take care of it and take it on their own adventures.
Sell sell sell. It should go cheap and give some young people opportunity to travel the world. I am sure you find good use for the money.
After having watched your videos with Sandy, I am feeling sad with you…😢

It's bizarre in the USA no one wants to display your mighty Wrangler... send it to Australia... there will be a museum ready to welcome her...
I may be interested in it, followed both your books and your story on YT! Maybe give us all a chance if that is the direction you go?
I will do that for sure, thanks!
Try the LeMay - America’s Car Museum in Tacoma Washington. I haven't been but I've been told they're even bigger then Petersons in LA
Thanks for the info, I'll reach out
If you decided to sell her, what do you think the price range you would be looking for her? Are you back in BC?
Sandy is priceless...
Naaa let it go 😂 less is more! The mostly precious thing you are going to keep, are the memories you lived and people you met. Adios Sandy 😂.
I wish I could afford it but I have three already! It’s be awesome to own such a Jeep!!
You're spoiled already John!
I have one, a turbo diesel XJ, but I'm also thinking about another Jeep. 😁
Best thing is to sell it to someone who will adventure in it. @muddyruttzz

yeah, the top is worth 6-7K easily. New ones are 10K+
I would really consider keeping it , Stellantis has no interest in supporting new Jeep owners.
All it takes is an engine swap and some suspension work and it's all good to go for another 200,000 miles.

Is that underbody rust caused by the salt that's applied on Canadian roads in winter? Or from Africa?
It's from Canada, but they don't use salt in the west. It's just from being wet more than 1/2 the year 24 hours a day.
