- Here is an overview of what I did to install the boonedox groovy landing gear on my old town sportsman 120 pdl kayak. Hope it helps those who are wanting to get this installed. Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks for watching
Thanks for the video. Please, can you do a year follow-up on if you have had any issues with the haul cracking?
From the landing gear? Have you been hearing stories about hulls cracking?
Nice job. Boondox should definitely offer pre-cut backing plates for the various models similar to the ones you made.
Thank you for posting! I watched many times when I was installing on my Sportsman 120 pdl. Not easy, even having watched you. Been out 10 times now including 100 degree weather. Its holding up fine. The wheels are a game changer and the mounting track is very nice too.
Can you do an update on the boonedox and how it’s holding up ??
Any updates on how this has worked for you with the added modification? Any issues/Problems?
Looks good. My landing gear should arrive this week for my Sportsman 106 PDL and it's nice to see how other people are installing. Thanks.👍
How’s this working out for you? Any suggested mods?
I’m about to buy the 106 PDL tomorrow and don’t think I can do the cart thing after seeing the Boonedox.
@@ThisTall I love the system. Every few uses I would check all of the screws/bolts and tighten when I first installed it. It didn't take long before it really settled in and nothing needed adjustments any longer. The backing is very important though. The hull material is plenty thick for the kayak on its own, but the landing gear definitely needs the extra support.
@@middleearthchronicles2269 thinking of getting the landing gear for my 106 also…you recommend it? And how did you install yours? Any video instructions?
Can you tell me how oldtown looks at the 5 year warantee with holes being drilled in the kayak?
If you drill above the water line you are still covered.👍
5 years on the drive, lifetime on the hull.
Are you from Michigan? I noticed the Tigers ball cap.. from Ann Arbor
How's this holding up? Thinking of doing this...
Nice video
This is the video I’ve been looking for heck yeah!
By chance how much of the spacer bar did you cut off?
Thanks for this video. I just got this same kayak, and was scratching my head looking at the back of it, wondering where I could mount the landing gear.
Question for you about storing this kayak - how do you store this guy when not in use? Do you store it just like it's shown in the video? I ask because I also store mine in a similar way and when I posted a picture of it, I got blown up about how I should store it on the side or upsidedown.
If it’s outside then upside down. Indoors you can absolutely store it like it is in the video👍
@@micahmarz The Boonedox website says not to store it setting on the wheels because that may create flat spots on the wheels.
How thick is your top (white) spacer??
How’s it holding up after a couple months?
Sorry this is late! It’s been great. and I have pulled it through some rough areas.
7 1/4"
3/16..

I don’t know… cool idea other than the long term cracking and warping on peoples hulls I’ve been seeing.
Why did you choose that location and not behind the rod holders at the rear? It seems you would have much more surface area for the bracing. Anyway, looks great nice job!
Further back the wheels the more weight your carrying, every inch closer to balance point matters.

Hello I have the same kayak and I want to get the boonedox system as well can you tell me which one is best for this kayak as I see there is a lot of different boonedox systems. Is this one you have a Standard boonedox kit
Does adding the boondox landing gear void the lifetime warranty on the kayak body?
Nice job on the video. It seems like a great solution to cart around once you have it positioned in place. Is it difficult to get the wheels positioned on land? Or, up at waters edge. Just asking! Seems difficult.
Thank you, I appreciate it. It can be a little cumbersome with the positioning but i found that when it is wet it makes it much easier to take the wheels on and off.
I'm going with the c-tug no holes needed
Definitely would not recommend if your yak has any kind of weight to it. I have an Old Town predator pdl and with all my gear (around 140lbs) it's a bitch getting around hence why I'm here. If you want I can sell you mine, still like new.
@@MrOffroadjunkie witch wheels you got because there are two different types
@@ericmay8937 standard wheels not the sandtrax
How much you asking
@@ericmay8937 $120 shipped I paid 160 new and only used it once
is that the standard kit? thinking about getting one for mines as soon as it ships to my door! excited.
Yes. This is the standard kit Congrats on the yak!
@@marzoutdoorz thx. old town is backed up on orders. still waiting for shipment. All local shops are sold out :(
