When you work downwards with layering, are you just duplicating the track and changing things within serum (or whatever VST the sound was made in) like filter, wavetable, etc. Or are you creating an entirely new sound but with the same pattern as the track above?
usually duplicating the main track than editing that duplicate to mix and blend with the original, usually upgrading or changing the post processing or the serum patch
Amazing you ask, basically layers adds power. Layer strategically like making a bass that how lows, then duplicate it and change the patch to start focusing on mids, then duplicate again and focus on highs. After the frequency spectrum is full then focus on making sure you now have a layer that hold the mono down. Then a layer that focuses on bringing stereo to the layer stack. This minimum can make a powerful bass then you can just starting adding on and removing from here!!
haas effect usually, delay set to 0 and 20 on time and then the hybrid reverb, the acon digital multiply, and also the ozone imager width knob too, you can also just use panning on a utility or the track as well!
This dude deserves more recognition for his work

should your lead be that much louder than kick/clap?
It is up to you it can be louder or balanced with the kick but usually you don’t want it lower volume than the kick/clap
