  • Hi everyone!! PART 3 is here, cleaning the whole van and removing the dash of our Ford Transit T350LWB. We removed the dash to spray but decided to just clean and rustproof. The van is now clean and sparkly! We hope you are enjoying our Beginner DIY UK van conversion? Please feel free to ask any questions or leave helpful advice. Thanks again everyone :D.

Very useful video guys. On the point you made about the hole in the mat where the driver's foot has worn a hole at the wheel arch, my van was the very same. Caused by a big driver with size 12 boots no doubt.
No need to take the whole dash off to replace that bit of the mat though. Just get yourself a nice sharp Stanley knife (safety knife) and go to your local scrap yard / car breaker and find a mat which isn't worn through (driven by some careful person with dainty little feet) and cut the section of mat off up around the top of the strut, so you'll have basically a nice tidy wheel arch cover section of mat from the strut all the way down to the door step tray that you've already taken out. Then back at base, get right under your own van's dash and carefully cut the mat up around where the strut fits to the wheel arch. Then just lift out out the entire horrible worn piece and fit the good section of mat from the car breakers, no need for screws or glues, your floor mat and doorstep hold it firmly in place and it'll never budge once everything is fitted back. And don't worry - the join will never be seen away up there under the dash.
I checked out this video 'cos I want to remove all the rubber mat in my very clean 2013 Mk 7 Transit because no matter how much I clean it inside, there's a "sour" smell wafting up from under the mat, probably caused by previous driver spilling tea or milk or something and it's soaked through into the foam padding underneath the mat. Quite a common feature in used Transits I'm led to believe. I plan to get the mat out, wash the floor thoroughly like you did, and then power hose the sh... hell out of the foam lining of the mat after washing it with a nice soapy fresh smelling cleaning agent. Hopefully it'll dry out nicely in the summer sunshine. And that should definitely leave it smelling much sweeter!

I have just bought a T350 MWB and reached this exact point, realising I have to take out the seats and do a deep clean and rust treatment. Was a bit overwhelmed, having no experience, so thank you so much for the information!!

Did you ever realise in the end that the worn bit isn’t connected to the part that goes all round the back of the pedals etc, it is a seperate part just that wheel arch bit, I just changed mine today :)

Well now I know how to clean and hoover a van, but not how to remove the dash, which is the reason I came here because the title includes 'dash removal'.

Hello, I came across your video because I have water coming in above the wheel arches and wetting the foam underneath the carpet when it rains... the smell is unpleasant... there is mud and rust. I see in the video that you have wet earth. is this normal? did you find the problem? Thanks for your help

Nice video but disappointed that tile of the video says "dash removal" but at no point does it show how to remove the dash... 😞

Think I'd be tempted to just thoroughly clean the dash stuff and leave it for now concentrate on the important things rather than cosmetics which can be done later

Hey - thanks for the video... we're at this point with our transit now too.
Ours was exactly the same under the floor liner. Have you got any closer videos on how you removed the dash or any advice? The section of this video that I was hoping you'd cover was all sped up (2.20-2.30). I need to get my dash out to fit my new weathershields to both front doors as ours were also rotten but I can't get behind the dash to push it into place properly
Also, I ripped my flooring out entirely and am planning to paint it and get aftermarket carpets because the "muck" was actually the my foam backing disintergrating. My wheel arch covers were also damaged exactly the same as yours but they were separate to the rear material so might be worth giving it a bit of a tug to be sure yours aren't the same

Hi my friend, glad to hear you are also tackling a transit! Yeah I couldn't believe how dirty it was! Sorry no I didn't video the process of removing the dash in detail. To be honest it was fairly straight forward I just looked for any screw holes and then started unscrewing things haa. you can simply pull off the main plate under the steering wheel and the glove box. Then everytime you see a screw just loosed then. Keep them all together in a little food bag. Next there were some screws you would have to get from going in the dash towards the doors. Hope this helps, if you need a hand with anything in the future message me and I will be happy to video it. Good luck :D

@@CreativeGinge hey, thanks for the tips - we have an 08 LWB HT - so pretty much the same as yours. Fab thank you, we'll give that a try. We did try loosening the dash by unscrewing but nothing appeared to slacken off so we chickened out and put them back 🤣 we'll retry tomorrow. I prepped the rust yesterday in the passenger half of the cab and with the rain overnight the water had got in 🤦🏼‍♀️ thanks to the tiny bit we can't get to behind the edge of the dash. Going to give it another go now as we dont want to make the situation worse if more water gets in looking at the forecast. I'll look you up in the forums you suggested 👍

    What a grimy car😱🤢
As for the bolt, I think you have to remove it when you want to mount your seats back. But you should check with a technician first before you do anything. Greetings from Lotasticland

Why not cover your door card in textile fabric of some sort rather than painting the plastic eg leather or something similar that could be wiped clean

what a useless video, as far as dash board removal goes, if you need a tip on using a vacuum cleaner and cleaning watch this, otherwise move on
