      I watched it and I do agree that gunner works. But I still use flux. It works for me I use just two machines all day. Also I only get headache at night and the sunset feature and flux I think is really for people like me. And I will agree that the default on flux is set to 3400K and looks like ass. I have it set to 5000K with normal temp on the monitor. With Flux if you have Cool or Warm color temp it will look really off. Gunners are ok but once set up right Flux works just fine for me.

      GameMechanic.tv Not trying to argue (hopefully someone reads this and it helps), but the idea behind these is to keep the layer of air in front of your eyes warm and moist, as when you look at a screen you tend to blink less and thus, dry your eyes out. The other thing of course is to reduce glare due to some coating (can't remember what it is exactly) that the outer layer of the lens has.
      Another review I read said that when given to an optometrist, they likened these to the equivalent of using eye-drops every hour (or maybe it was every half-hour, either way, you get the idea).
      Anyway, just some more info for you and others :)

    Jay doesn't use F.lux cause he doesn't give any flux.
    Okay, seriously though. F.lux was not made to combat eye fatigue. It was made to have better sleep (because the excessive amount of blue light emitted from monitors messes up your Circadian rhythm.) That's why it (by default) only works at night. F.lux does not serve the same purpose as Gunnars.

    • @nvmffs
      @nvmffs 7 років тому +1

      That comment made no sense whatsoever... The excessive blue light doesn't just screw up your sleep but your eyesight too when in dark room. What do you think a warmer light means ? It means it's closer to the ambient light in your room which is most likely not a 6500K one. The closer your monitor light is to the ambient light, the better for your eyesight.

    people saying just to download flux and i will give my OPINION
    1) after 1 week of not using a computer and my eyes not strained at all i used my computer for a day, eyes didnt hurt, got a little sick (not because of computer), my head hurt, and then my eyes started to hurt because i started to use my computer so i got flux and it made it 10 times worse.
    2) flux has a way different color to it.
    3) gunnars have a small magnification to them and other very small things only noticeable in the long run.

      @laurentiucristian1 10 років тому

      There we talk about colors, not smoothness of animation. This is another thing. Anyways, I agree, G-Sync monitors or 120/144hz helps a lot your eyes. At 60 FPS in some games I have eye strain, but newer games and old ones uses motion blur and this help to smooth out animations and trick your brain the objects in games really move.

    • @Mythricia1988
      @Mythricia1988 10 років тому

      laurentiu d. I don't think we were suggesting it was the same phenomenon - but flicker-free backlight might at least be related to some degree. Thankfully most screens now are starting to implement that.
      Unfortunately I can't actually try Gunnars or anything equivalent - use prescription glasses, and can't really invest in new ones right now, so no way to make use of them...

    • @paytyler

      Biologically, we are designed to sleep in the dark and not in the day. This is controlled by the amount of blue light that out eyes are exposed to. Blue light literally sends your brain the stay awake signals.
      Certainly not a perfect science, but I would be interested if someone documented this really well and shared their results. I'll be smarter and better in the morning, it's late.

    Copper, orange, yellow/amber and brown lens tints make an environment appear brighter and are commonly used in low-light conditions. These lens tints block blue light and enhance contrast and depth perception making them helpful for overcast, hazy and foggy conditions.
    Blue light, with its shorter wavelength, scatters easier than other colors and makes focusing more difficult. Removing blue light therefore improves sharpness and depth perception and reduces fatigue. However, these lens tints do cause some degree of color distortion, though brown/bronze lenses do so considerably less than do yellow/amber or orange lenses.
    This has been common knowledge among the shooting community for quite some time.

      updates?

    • @gunitakon
      @gunitakon 8 років тому +3

      +Keshaw Kishan yes, here goes:
      I tried changing my f.lux settings to lower the color settings to 1400K to see if that would help, and it didn't. So I got my pair of Gunnar Microns, after using them for two weeks, I saw a lot of change. My eyelids were constantly moist, as a sign of the design that Gunnars talks about that it keeps it humid so your eyes don't dry out. And that was a very important factor to me, because I forgot to blink.
      I had no headaches just by being in front of my monitor, however I did start to get headaches when wearing headphones, because the Micron glasses are very tight and pressed against your head. So I decided to return the Micron, and got myself a pair of Vayper, now I don't get any kind of headaches, not from my eyes, or from using headphones and the glasses.
      I love the inch of magnification it comes with, it makes everything clearer to see as it lowers contrast, and the amber tint really isn't that much of a problem, plus, the tint is even less noticeable than if you had f.lux.
      Overall, I'm loving it, and I use it not only at my desk, but also in bed when reading, and when using my phone.

    • @gunitakon
      @gunitakon 8 років тому

      +Keshaw Kishan also, forgot to mention, I don't get bloodshot eyes, nor do my eyes burn. And before, whenever my eyes would burn, I'd squeeze my eyes shut, and tear would come out, but now whenever I squeeze my eyes shut, no tear comes out because it's not dry and it doesn't burn.

    I'M GOING TO TALK WITHOUT WATCHING THE VIDEO!! I tried the clear/crystalline glasses because I didn't want the color change. I did like the little bit of magnification on top of my contacts but there would still be glares. But! I would recommend them because they do hold terrific resale value and I had them sold on eBay in a day.

    To anyone who doubts that these work, I have been using the PPKs since 2013. A $50 purchase has saved me $1400 in new prescription glasses every year because I don't continuously cause damage to my eyes. They have lasted me 5 years and are quite durable if you use them as intended and don't abuse them.
    The advantage to a pair of glasses vs something like flux is that flux will only affect how you see your computer monitor. Glasses will help with eye strain caused by fluorescent lighting because they cover your eyes. That's where the biggest difference is made.

  • @Toptengamer

    Gunnars are not the best option when it comes to eye protection from computer screens...
    There is a company called MLG,they are based in California and they make the so called "Noscope" glasses.They are quite a bit more stylish with their wider range of designs,they offer a 1337 days warranty which is alot more than what Gunnars offer and they also cost less*Just a single picture of your mother*. I think this makes them a better choice in general !

    Flux just removes blue light to keep it from disrupting sleep patterns, doesn't do much for eye strain. Eyes can't focus properly on a pixelated screen, which is where the strenght in the lens to move your focal point to the screen instead of behind it which is where your eyes normally try to focus on a screen.

    I totally love that kind of optics because , I use them every day , but not gunners . I actually got to the doctor about 2-3 years ago and she said that because of my light grey eyes I am sensitive to very high contrasts and brightness and she advised that I go to a professional glasses making ... kind of guy to get a pair of specialised tinted glasses . they were worth 60 eu but I bought them anyway and they actually worked . a lot of my friends who have pure plue eyes or my mum who has green eyes noticed the difference . I don't know about gunnars but they are definently more expencive so I advice that you go to your local glasses maker and seek for a pair of custom glasses . the one that I got to gave the opportunity of choosing a ''chassis'' for the glasses :D hope that that helped you .

    Hey, I also took a shot at these glasses (Phantom version) around 2 years ago. Spending about 12 hours a day in front of a computer screen really, REALLY started to make my eyes get irritated, and I also had to rub them every few minutes and they were always red. After buying these glasses, everything changed for the good, and once I even spent 22 hours in front of my monitor (school project), working almost non stop without even a hint of discomfort on my eyes. People, just try them, if you don't like them you can always return them to Gunnar.

    There have been few purchases I have made which have given me the quality of life upgrade that Gunnar glasses did when I got them. My only gripe with them is that I nicked the lenses even though I've only been using microfiber to clean it. It has been a minor thing, but I notice the imperfection in my right eye every now and then. Besides possible weakness in that, the magnesium frame build quality is excellent and I cannot stress enough how instantly it had made my eyes feel better. 18 months of using them and I have absolutely no regrets. My monitors at home, my monitors at work, my tablet on the go, my smartphone so much light strain that I only wish I'd bought a pair sooner in life.

      Alaan Franklin Microfiber can indeed scratch the anti-reflective coating on these glasses. This is why they say to only use the bag the glasses come in to clean the lenses. Sorry to hear about the scratch though, that must be fairly annoying to live with.

    No need to buy any fancy glasses for hundreds of dollars, any cheap ass yellow sunglasses will do.
    As long as it's not to dark and you don't work on photomanipulation or stuff where you need to see the colors properly.
    The Point is they reduce the blue/bright white light and that is easier on your eyes without bringing the brightness down.

    If any of your eye issues is from the light itself, which it sounds like it may be, f.lux doesn't do much for that. The yellow tinting in those lenses, meanwhile, cuts out the blue light that causes the worst of the problem.
    I have severe photosensitivity and have to run dimscreen at 50% on top of having my screens' brightness cranked down. I'll probably give Gunnar a shot, too; never heard of them before.

    Got a pair for working on watches. They're the crystalline version so they don't filter out nearly as much cool light but they hold my loupe and the optical properties of the lenses make it so my eyes aren't screwed up by the end of the day from looking at things up close. Highly recommended for watchmakers ^^
