All the best to Fred. He clearly know what he is doing as a designer, because several top micros owe him a beer or two, put it that way! A small watch in the case of a big watch, but if your eyes can cope, then is sure is pretty. Cheers, Jody
I'm not crazy about his overall asthetic but I do really like how he integrates the date window so seamlessly on his own watches.
I've always wondered why maisons never made a date window in the same shape as the large hour markers. Finally, someone who gets it. It's beautiful. This will be my first Kickstarter watch.
Sooo many beautiful little touches combine to create a trully original design! Excellent!
Love the design and the execution but I totally agree with your comments in the review. Would have been nice to see the internal bezel in action as its a large part of the design.
Lovely watch. I bought the Zebec Corsair ZC1 when I saw the review on your channel. I actually bought the green watch. I'm still very happy with it, but I sometimes miss a date window. The Pilgrim would solve this. Great video as always. 👍
That date window is GENIUS!
Very well designed watch. I wish Fred all the very best! ❤
That must be the best integrated date window I have ever seen! Well done indeed 👏
The Art Deco case is gorgeous. I agree that the dial is a bit small, but I love the way the date window fits the theme. The case though, it's one of the best looking cases I've seen in years.
This is a beauty. Really like the whole design and how he hides that date window by integration into the whole design. Not something we see very often. For too many watches including the most expensive the date window is an afterthought, more about where to put it rather than how to put it. This will be a winner.
I'm liking the green with the aged lume. It reduces the in-your-face-ness of the chonk.
I know nothing about Art Deco nor steampunk.
However, the watch is very interesting.
Crazy case, best date window implementation, WOW.
Thanks for the video Jody and give the watch a proper video.
That is quite an interesting watch. Curiously it is the blue one I'm drawn too and that is rather unusual for me. I am generally a green watch person. The only way to resolve my conflict, I guess, will be to buy both. Great review Jodi!
I’m with you on the blue over green. To me it’s a bit more subdued.
Another cracking review, Jody. I'm with you on your thoughts about the inner bezel being far too wide, significantly impinging on the dial real estate. The bracelet looks like an afterthought, without fitted endlinks it actually looks a bit odd. Not a fan of the hour hand. Innovative design of the 4 trapezoidal indices, with the date window not looking out of place or unbalancing the look of the dial. A few hits and a few misses for this one. Still, a brand to keep an eye on in future.
Nice watch that seems well built. All the best!
It is very close, for me ... but going to have to pass due to that "double bezel" and its impact on the actual dial size. No mention of the internal bezel action? Bi-directional? Number of clicks/detents, if any?
Hi Jody,
I like the solution for the date window! It’s perfect to remain the symmetry of the dial.
Best regards,
Claus
Stunning watch! I like the layering on the dial and bezel. At first look it's a big thumbs up from me.
Bought a dual crown compressor style before and it's not for me, but the execution here seems great and I'm curious to see what a pilot style watch with this aesthetic will be like.
id like to see a thinner bezel to create more space for the dial. as is it looks squeezed to me.
Nice looking watch and case back 👍👍. Happy birthday to the little guy 😁
Wow up late here in NY in time to catch your latest masterpiece review early in Oz. Fab! 👌 👏
Thanks for watching the channel mate!
@@JustOneMoreWatch love your content BTW I'm another expat Brit like you except I'm a southerner who flew a short hop West......
I love it, slightly small face, you're right jody but l really like the bracelet!
its a nice watch. Would love the see a smaller dress watch from this designer
This looks really cool
I came very close to backing the first release from Fred on KS but just didnt at the last minute. I love the design, but its not a watch that could really be called a daily because of it, and this falls into the same category for me. I love what he is doing, and wish him nothing but the best, but I will probably sit out this particular watch. That said..... a Jules Verne inspired pilots watch is one that I might not actually be able to resist!
Hi Jody, A great looking watch, would love to see the centre section of trhe dial in just a simle 38mm dress watch. That to me would be my want it watch. Hope Fred thinks about that idea
It's definitely unique and I dig it.
Great video, as always Jody! A very nice and unique watch! The lume is awesome and the matching date window with the hour markers only compliments the design. Would love to get this one.
Good looking watch, better on the rubber without a doubt. Happy birthday to you know who.
It's gorgeous.
Nice to see micro brands do well . Cheers Jody
Very beautiful! Really like this, might be my first Kickstarter watch.
Jody: a micro-brand that I really like. beautiful design, hopefully after working it out a good price reduction it will sell!
I don’t particularly like the numbers being so far from the edge of the dial.
The date looking so close to the other indices, but not quite the same... Can the uncanny valley effect apply to watches? Admirable attempt, but just draws my eye to it in a bad way, especially on the green. Looks off-colour.
The straight link bracelet is very naff, too.
Reminds me of the Zebec Corsair, which is no bad thing
Nice looking watch. Too expensive to just get a rubber strap. No fitted end links for the bracelet is a big no-no for me. The watch head looks top heavy as well.
Yes
I actually like this one, in particular the case design really sells me on this one, well done. I also tend to be leaning towards other straps instead of the usual stainless steel. Might have to consider this one in the green.
Attractive design…wow 😮 apart from the Alpinist, the only only watch in this price range making me seriously consider buying it! Please Fred…a giveaway makes total sense at this point 😂
I like that no BS clean and symmetrical dial design. But imagine it without that inner bezel and with larger dial. With just one, center placed crown. Few millimeters thinner. And made as solar powered quartz. Now, that would be a proper watch worth of its price.
This one is chunky and mechanical... Nah. I wouldn't take it even if it'd be for free.
love the case.... the dial and hands not so much
I like this one, probably on rubber better. Not the same old same old
Needs no date version!!!
Jody, any news on your microbrand?
Straight ends on the OEM bracelet is just odd.
The bracelet was 100% an afterthought. May as well get a strapcode 🤷♂️
Remove the compressor and expand the dial face - I would be shaking my piggy bank. The metal band is a tad sad, it seems like an afterthought. I think fitted ends would have given an opportunity for a little bit of art deco design. I like the watch but... not enough to click the Buy button.
beads of rice bracelet would fit better in my opinion
Great video as always. Horrendous looking watch.
The one thing throwing me off from a purchase is that date wheel color being so off
If they just made a watch without the whole supercompressor inner bezel, at around 36mm; I know me and my group of friends would have probably all bought one. Just too big.
Speaking of microbrands, should i purchase a san martin, or a citizen for a 350 aus budjet?
San Martin better made, Citizen better warranty etc. Both good brands though!
@@JustOneMoreWatch great. Now I was looking around for some san martin's, and a like the divers, however, I feel a dress watch (metal braclet) would suit me better. Would you be able to point me in the direction of a dress watch?
I've made a couple of Top 10 San Martin videos mate, have a look there for one you like! Cheers.
Nice
BioShock watch :)
I love this design. I usually dont like date windows at 3, but this one makes it work with the same shape of indices at the other cardinal positions. Nice hour hand and dial texture too.
Thanks for keeping us entertained with the amazing content Jody💪🏼 I got into watch collecting because of this channel and still base many of my purchases on your content. The collection is coming along nicely🙂. Warmest Regards 🇿🇦
Thanks for watching mate! I'm named after one of your countrymen by the way....
My moans and niggles, why not demonstrate the internal rotating bezel on a watch that has one of those? Cool looking watch btw.
Nice that the designer actually put some thought into the date wheel. The color and numeral match is a great touch.
I really like art deco style stuff, and the dial looks good. I really like the multi-piece case too, very interesting. But.. the wide bezel combined with the big inner rotating bezel, just makes it feel like there's a lot of empty space on the watch.
Thank you for the review Jody ! It's always good to hear constructive criticism .
Had the privilege to review the Nautilus and to talk quite a bit with Fred (and even meet one of his cousins 😂).
He is a brilliant and humble man with a great passion to what he does (and he does it well).
Yeah he is a top guy.
He's a rich jerk!
It would have been nice to see the operation of the inner rotating bezel. I can see from on of the images that it is a screw down crown, but it still would have been nice to see how well it rotates.
The. Man. Behind your favorite micro brands. Just. Started his
I'll never ever trust a company who sells a product they haven't built yet. I had to wait 3 years for a knife I bought through a kickstarter. 3 years of stalling/lying emails promising delivery and then the knife wasnt even to the promised specs. Not ever doing that again no matter what it is.
I don't get why some people want the date to be so well integrated (read: hidden) in the dial - it's a function that's meant to be seen.
Butterfly clasp on a dive watch. Fail. With a capital F A I and L.
I really like it. I think it would have looked even better with a larger face and smaller bezel. I would def consider this as collection worthy. Merci!
Great vid as always jody, not so keen on this one but nice to see something a little different from a relative newcomer tot he market
Looks like a Christopherward Aquatine and a DressKX had a super compressor baby with Breitling 12,3,6,9 indices. Not bad but not memorable in 10 years.
It’s classy, glorious design notes, I love the art deco looks
good lookin watch, the faux patina doesn't match the date's faux patina, but the starch white on the blue looks better anyways
I really like this one, especially on the rubber strap.
Thanks for the review. Too chunky for me and I don't like that small dial. Interesting look though.
My favourite features are the custom date wheel and it's integration in the dial. But I agree, I'm neither a fan of compressor style divers because of the tiny dial.
This watch just makes me want to go to the beach! I’m really into compressor style watches at the moment.
Case looks really nice, the dial size was the first thing that struck me, a slimmer bezel might have made the proportions look better. It looks far better on the bracelet, I like the straight end link especially, gives it a bit of character and having an SW200 instead of an NH35 inside means its actually going to be pretty good at telling the time. Looking forward to see how the pilot's watch turns out.
Interesting looking piece, I would love for the rubber strap to have been fitted to the case a little better (no gaps).
I just bought a Nautilus Bronze Red and have a Pilgrim "Young Captain Edition" that arrives shortly.. Its a great watch! I am a fan of 20,000 leagues under the sea also, so the little touches that tie in with the story also interest me a lot..
I think maybe Peter Kotsa showed this watch off a little while ago. I think maybe the main niggle might be the weight, as well. Surprisingly, if not unnecessarily, heavier than maybe it should or could be. It's pretty good looking and thoughtful design. I would have also preferred a fitted endlink bracelet..straight endlinks only work if the lugs are cut straight or notched out where you don't have as much of a mismatch of shapes and unnecessary gaps.
Wow, they're beautiful! Love the green one...
Hah... as I'm watching...
Jody: I don't like the straight end links...
Me: Well its purposeful it shows off the inscriptions...
Jody: I don't like the inscriptions...
This is sweet, super different, and greatly executed. That case is just something else, and even that dial has some JLC polaris vibes.
Nice review Jodi. Love that you bring attention to a brand that most people don’t know.
Nah! Double bezel is not good at all! I'll mark this as a failure of a design, What reminds me of both Steampunk and Jules Verne is this watch, Orient Star model RE-AT0103Y. You might like other color combinations, but that Sepia nuance is perfect for the vintage effect, like a sepia photography from an old era. Why belt and not bracelet? It deepens the vintage effect.
Great! More power to him. Perhaps his future designs might go even more ART DECO and vintage. Ive always wanted a LAVENTURE... maybe this man can make watches like that available
"Empire State Building Meets Steam Punk" that's a very good analogy, too kind but very applicable. I wouldn't even buy it for a friend, but I would buy an Eterna Kon-Tiki anytime.
whaou, what a great design! i usually liké compressor style but Here it's a Real chunky one. beautiful original design, i love it!!! thanks Jody for this review...
Really nice watch. Think I'll wait for the Aliexpress copy, oops I mean Homage, and pick one up for a bargain. !!!
Green one on green rubber is absolutely fantastic looking! I'd go so far as to say I prefer it over something like the green Alpinist. Of course the price tag helps, ha
Nice video mate x
It seems like $500 is the new $300. I like it though and I'm wondering if this piece will be like the Second Hour Mandala. Great Kickstarter price and then basically doubled after that.
Because of your channel, I now own Spinnakers. And Phoibos without you getting the word out there regarding micro brands we would all be stuck with Seiko’s (which I have a few) G shocks and Casio’s Citizens and accurist, and yes I have a few But you showed me the light, and what you can get on a budget. Thank you
The bracelet is quite disappointing. A butterfly clasp without half links is terrible. You just can’t get a good fit with those. I don’t like straight endlinks either, Jody. Great review
instead of waffling on about empires and buildings you could've just said BioShock lmao
So bad that the bracelet doesn't follow the watch head's curves! It looks like a 3rd-party one!
Jody, why not review the internal bezel action?! Some usual complaints deal with the fact that it's wobbling, I would have known how this one was going.
Steam Punk meets Art Deco does sound terrible... but this watch looks good IMO.
I like it, legibility is good considering the small looking face, you sold me when you said rubber strap. Really lively symmetry. Signed crowns don’t do much for me but add mess. Art Deco rules, which is why the Cartier Santos is so cool.
Those lugs are excellent. Double stepped.
The bracelet is perfect so I'd put up with the fitment.
I really like it. 👍
You are more fussy than me.
Which I really appreciate.
This watch is so good! I'm currently I love with 38mm and smaller but I might buck that trend for this one. The weight is off-putting, I'll have to give it some thought.
