It's easy to tell where he is going with this once he said "... a Chinese cabinet that we purchased from a competitor." Plywood is always better than mdf. The reason why American cabinets use mdf is because they need to cut cost because it is more expensive to manufacture in the States, and they have to cut costs somewhere. They have two options hire cheap employees that will turn out bad build quality, or they can pay for experienced craftsmen to assemble cheap parts. You should compare a high-end Chinese line like J&K or Choice with some American made stuff around the same price like Wolf.
Get real. China dumps cheap goods in the United States without the need for a profit due to huge subsidies coming from their government. They do this in order to bankrupt u.s. businesses and raise their prices once they control the industry..breaking u.s. and international trade laws.
@@todda7333 That's what I'm saying..artificially cheap cabinets are making it difficult for u.s. cabinet companies to stay in business...and its ( as you said) making it difficult for you to compete unless you purchase them or utilize them in your business...its their scheme to take over the cabinet making industry. It should be stopped
Most Chinese cabinet we have used have nice steel corner brackets. Also we add our own solid wood corner brackets prior to installation. Chinese cabinets have not only dadoes, but extremely strong, specialized nails that shoot into the corners at a 45 degree angles. Also extremely strong wood glue is used. You will never take the cabinet apart. Believe me, I've tried. They come flat-packed. The construction is up to the individual. We use specialty fasteners in all corners, wood glue, solid wood and steel corner brackets, screws. They don't feel weak at all. The have five-piece doors and drawers, full overlay, full extension slides, soft close drawers and doors, tilt-out trays as standard. Overall, we've been very pleased with what we've worked with. JK Cabinets gives a great quality flat-packed cabinet in quite a few styles that we've had the pleasure of using. We love them, and our customers did too. We won't even get into the price. Less than half price usually, compared to American made custom cabinets. A perfect solution for a budget- minded client.
I must agree with you we sell them to there built better then expected an he can try an up sell glued sawdust like it's better then plywood lol An the finish is so good. Here is what it comes down to more people touch the Chinese cabinets then the American ones yes we would love to sell made in American but it a great cabinet an price is unreal
Sorry to be highly contrary with you here but, Chinese cabinets come un-assembled, in a flat box sealed with water tight membrane. So, whomever assembled that cabinet (wherever you bought it from?) did not use the glue and is the one who put the drawer together poorly. Particle board is not better than plywood. Water and particle board do not mix. My old American made bathroom cabinets were made out of particle board and were a mess. I now have chinese cabinets in my master bath (I did not know they were from China when my cabinet guy ordered them btw) and I have america made custom in my kitchen with plywood sides and solid wood fronts that are not as nice as my new bathroom cabinets. The chinese are better constructed because the guy I bought them through who assemble them used glue/nails. And the base of those cabinets are also plywood held in with blocks that are glued and nailed. I watched with fasination as he assembled them in my garage! I hate to say China does it better.. but, they do in this case. I am very impressed with my bathroom cabinets. When my cabinet guy built the tub surround for our tub he did not use particle board. He used birch plywood that was painted. Particle board is never a sign of quality anything. Also, a lot of cabinet guys (custom cabinet guys/girls like the guy I bought my bathroom cabinets from) are using china bases/boxes and building from there. So anyone on here thinking that your local cabinet guy or where your cabinet guy buys his cabinets thinking that they are made here in America are fooling themselves. It's cheaper for them to order in the boxes and finish out the doors themselves. As for the hardware? Most of it is made in China! Same for the hinges and nails you use to assemble! Oh and you also used a very poor example of the cabinets offered here from China. If you had picked one of the higher quality Chinese cabinets you could not have made this video. ;0)
I agree with you I own a cabinet store. An sell import. Just buy good imports an what I love about them flat packed I can put a whole kitchen in bed of truck how they beat American is shipping a pallet or half of a Simi truck to get to our door. What do you think is cheeper?
From real hardwood, to plywood, to MDF and now to particle board....just sad. Despite all the build issues with the Chinese cabinet I would still chose it over the American one simply because of the plywood construction.
Thank you for your very detailed examination of the kitchen cabinets. It is very helpful. I really appreciate the skilled dovetail work in the drawers and the extra support beam under the drawer. That is definitely needed. In our remodel, we will choose to buy the American-made cabinets. China is actually one country that I will not support on such a long-time big purchase. As you have said, if there are any future problems, there is a contact that we can connect to. For me, the choice is easy-I will choose the American-made cabinet over the Chinese cabinet. Many thanks for your overview of the details of both cabinets! ✨💫✨
Thats why Lowes charges more for their Plywood construction cabinets than they do for MDF construction right? Because MDF is better? Who cares about the back of the cabinet appearnce you're never going to see that part once its installed either. Of course everybody would love to buy American made stuff but when its twice the price for some wood it makes it hard to go that route.
Based on the continously used word chinese, it sounds much more like a commercial for the good ol American made cabinets, than a regular comparison. Which would require at little more criticsm of the American product
Steffen, I am comparing a Chinese made cabinet to an American made cabinet. Not sure how I can do that without using the word Chinese to designate which cabinet I am referring to.
particle board is very low strength compared to plywood and swells in humid kitchens or baths much more relative to plywood. Plywood holds fasteners much better than plywood.
Missy, I agree that plywood is superior to particle board. I was not suggesting that particle board is stronger, I was simply trying to shed light the importance of construction method over material strength. I can't tell you how many times people have come into my store and said "well yeah its Chinese, but its a plywood cabinet so it can't be that bad", but the truth is, it could be made of steel and it still wouldn't last more than a couple years.
wow this whole video is wrong I work at a Chinese whole cabinet shop from procraft cabientry. We have great quality for a great price and he is over here comparing the cheapest cabinet in his area so it is crappier quality. but if you go to a higher Chinese made cabinets you would be getting the same quality and better pricing
Hello, thank you for the video, I do agree with the better joint and shape in mdf board cabinets because everyone knows mdf board is softer than plywood to cut into perfect rectangular shape.
I sell them on one job I sold cabinets at 16000 lowes was 28000 for same amount of cabinets I took the kitchen lay to them that was on painted white shakers
America should build plywood cabinets that are affordable. Simple. Are Chinese cabs great? No, but they are better than anything else at their price and higher. I can make them better during assembly.
Be honest, the customers pay the different price for the cabinets. They pay less for the Chinese cabinet, so you can not ask the cheaper cabinet has better quality, the quality depends on how much the importers want to pay. I have to admit, Chinese manufacturers can not make smart phone chips like the American company made. But if you can pay enough , they will make you better cabinets.
WRONG, I can tell this guy on the Video are totally wrong. The reason Chinese factory use plywood because it is more strong and light than the MDF or particle board not because of the water on the ocean. Container will never ever get wet, when I unload the containers from our vendor, there is 0 water left over on the boxes. Plus plywood is cost more than the particle box, most of the American factories are using the cheaper material to against Chinese cabinets. 3 pieces wood on top can make the cabinet strong? LOL The metal brackets are way stronger than this wood piece. If you are stand in fair view to judge these 2 kinds of cabinets, I respect that but do not saying unprofessional words against Chinese cabinets, it makes 0 sense to us. Consumers understands which material is better and exist longer. At the end, the cabinets you get from your competitor probably is the cheapest they have, try to compare Highland Cabinetry's product vs yours. Good luck!
I like this presentation. Most of the poor construction in the Asian cabinets can be easily modified to be stronger in a very short time. I do not like the sloppy joints though and I have noticed that the finish is lacking. I probably will buy Asian (they are made all over Asia now) The reason is cost and the fact that I doubt I will be staying here long.
I have to respectfully disagree, I'd take a Chinese plywood construction anyday over pressboard. Kitchens and bathrooms are high humidity areas. RTV Chinese made cabinets would be my choice. I'd go with the one that use screws, and glue it as well. There are cheap ones of course, but there are some well made ones. Also the dirty secret is many builders are using RTA Chinese cabinets and charging custom prices. They are great cabinets at a great price, if you do your homework. Research and do your homework. .
You just mentioned that when mdf gets wet it disintegrates, that alone is a reason NOT to buy these designed cabinets. Chinese is cheap. Glad you pointed all of this out but still I would opt for plywood any day over mdf and considering the 5,000 price tag versus 15 plus thousand for cabinets made with cheap garbage mdf particle board. Come on man. I would rather buy IKEA than opt for expensive cabinets made with the same material but of course I will not do that. So...the chinese is starting to look like a better option until I can pony up the cash for some really solid expensive cabinets.
There are other Chinese cabinets that are made here in the USA and they made much better than what you are showing and they cost less plywood is much better than mdf period
Buy from cabinets to go.... American made with plywood, very well built with nice tight fit, and affordable. MDF sucks and if you dont know that you dont know anything about cabinets.
Chinese cabinets are better than the American cabinets thats sold at your major home improvement stores... and btw, american cabinets manufacturing companies have the worst customer service.
Why is import cheeper labor an environment laws here. O you want to spray cabinets here in use probly have to spend millions to set up spray line. China they just spray. Would I love to sell American yes. If you want to pay double buy American. Be glad to sell them to you. My profit is same margin but 10 g for import or 20g for American simple math
Whoever assembled the chinese cabinet did it as poorly as possible or did their worst possible to make a review on youtube trying to sell their lower quality, overpriced cabinet lol, who cares if they have to do plywood because of logistics, their cabinets are still plywood and yours cheap mdf ikea garbage. Chinese cabinets come in boxes containing all separate pieces, its the US contractors discretion to put glue, bang the dovetails, put braces ecc. So i would say save your money, dont buy cheap american mdf garbage for your kitchen that has water spilling all the times, and find yourself a good contractor that knows what they’re doing and can assist you from creating your custom blueprint, to assembly and installation.
I don't even know why are you wasting your time comparing the Chinese brand to US brand?.?? Common man! It's like comparing Honda civic to a Ferrari 🤷♂️🤦🤷♂️ Chinese cabinet are meant for people who wants to have a descent kitchen looks after remodeling BUT there is no way that you can compare the quality of a custom build American cabinet to Chinese....NO way.
