Big love for this video! Excited for the Boltons and the idea of mini factions in general. Bring on the Tyrells/Tullys. Especially if their units/ncus/commanders feed back into Baratheon/Stark in some way.
Thanks for posting video & your insights into these cards. Looking forward to the release although I won't be buying into them for at least 3 months. My current inventory of Ice & Fire miniatures that still need painting is at least 30 expansion boxes deep. Since I don't like to field unpainted models in games I will wait on these.
Sounds like your backlog is just a tad bigger than mine (for ASOIAF anyway). I commend your discipline to finish your other expansions first. I always tell myself I’ll do that, but it doesn’t take much for me to reevaluate my hobby priorities. ;)
18:36 for Seeing Their Flaws, little additional info, the enemy unit looses all abilities and cannot be targetted by tactic cards WHILE they are attacked by Roose. If they have any retaliation tactic cards or abilities that happens AFTER the attack, they can still be used. For instance, Relentless and Final Strike can still be used. Very nice review, loved listening to it, keep up the good work 👏
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it. You’re absolutely right about Seeing Their Flaws. It seems like it will be useful for getting around some certain defensive and morale abilities and tactics cards. But retribution effects will mostly still take place since the attack will have been completed and the effect of Seeing Their Flaws is no longer active. It is still useful against certain enemies and will be good to prevent certain defensive cards from being played. A couple of the Night’s Watch base deck cards could be played during the attack, for example. This would also prevent them from being attached to that unit, which could be useful (until they get attached after the next attack. 😆)
Nice review, thanks for sharing it! Thinking I might first try running Boltons on just Heroes 1 and my current stock of Cutthroats, Blackguard, FM, and BBG’s with Steelshanks Commander.
I’d recommend also trying to proxy the Dreadfort Archers with some other set of archers you have. Archers with the Sour Allyn attachment look like they’ll be an auto-include in most Bolton lists. Good idea you have though, to try out the Boltons before going all-in.
Ramsay may actually want to be in bowmen. HV helps weaken/deter charges, and they gain full benefit of opportunist (assuming they aren't firing into an engagmenet).
The deterrence of HV is nice, but putting Ramsay in Archers lowers the effectiveness of Reek, since you ideally want to be outside of short range of opponents. Getting the full benefit of Opportunist is nice, but I don’t think HV is enough of an deterrent for the enemy to stay away from the Archers. Additionally, putting Ramsay in Archers means that Sour Allyn isn’t in your Archers, unless you’re running double Archers. 😱
He’s certainly an interesting pic, not least of all because he’s the only truly new commander character. Taking him also gives you more NCU options, since now both Roose and Ramsey will be available as NCUs. His cards look like a lot of fun too. Very dynamic and aggressive.
What do you think of Ramsay Spears? The risk is the enemy just ignores it, forcing you to charge with the spears and losing the value of Set for Charge. With the archers, they alone are an appealing target, so you’ll get value out of HV if attacked. But if the archers get attacked, they lose their damage output value… I‘ll likely have a follow-up video in a couple weeks discussing some preliminary army-building options. Commander bunkers will definitely play a part of that video. 👍
Best Bolton review on UA-cam.
Hey man, good videos about the Boltons. Part to them I decided to play them. So thanks😊

@@imperialminis857 yes, good point. I’m sure I’ll cave and buy the Starter Box eventually, but for now Stormcrows could stand in.
You already have more self-control than I.

Thanks Mikel!
Great vid ! When is starter out ?
Thanks! That depends entirely on where in the world you live. In the US, it’s supposed to come out on September 15, 2023.
Steelshanks is weirdly enough the guy I’m most excited for

Most apparent C bunkers seem to be:
- Roose Blackguard
- Ramsay Bowmen
- Shanks Cutthroats

Very low synergy in using Opportunist with Cutthroats, as they already get rerolls and have Vicious
Yes, I forgot about the Cutthroats’ rerolls when I made this comment. There are better targets for Opportunist.
