- The Hillman Hunter is a very rare machine in Thailand, so when one has just finished a two year no corners cut ground up restoration it was certainly worth taking a close look at it.
The Hunter belongs to Ian Rauner, the owner of the X-Centre in Chiang Mai and the countryside of Mae Rim district provided the perfect backdrop, he explains the story of the car and the restoration.

One of the best examples, wheels look real good, the whole car looks superb, I want it man.
My dad had a gold coloured Hillman hunter in Ireland during the 70s. Great car.
Gold was quite a colour that nailed it back in the day
Great video, and a beautiful Hillman Hunter. I had a 1973 Hunter GL when I was 18 in 1983 it was the 3rd car that I’d owned since passing my driving test in the UK when I was 17
. It was a great car, I went everywhere in it. I never really liked the colour, it was metallic brown with tan vinyl roof which
let the whole car down, but it drove great.
Thanks for your comments. Metallic brown has come a little bit back into fashion now, although not vinyl roofs, they were awful ideas. 3rd car by 18 is good going too!
Great presentation Edd
Thank you, was really nice to meet this car.
Great looking car, the end result of the rebuild makes it worth the effort, I like the colour chosen.
They made them in Iran for about 20 years.. it's the national car in Iran..
There are 1000s of this there, all taxis were Hillman hunter
Indeed, there is actually one of the Iranian versions here, which has been recently restored, first one I have seen in my life!
We have had few of them in the family over the years, all of them suffered from the same problem: Water leaks in the leg area while raining! I wonder if yours have that issue or not
Great job Ian!
Excellent. Great to see air-conditioning fitted.
How does it run with the aircon on, as this saps a few bhp..
As always, thank you Edd for bringing us some of the greatest cars in all of Asia
Thanks, as always, Jim.
Lovely car, beautifully done. Just a minor point, would it be a little more powerful with a Weber 28/36 carb fitted. Powering air con would sap a lot of power from the standard setup.
Stunning interior! What was the method of attaching the walnut veneer to the center console? I intend to try the same with my 69 Alpine.
I don't know those details sorry, but you can contact the owner here: facebook.com/ian.rauner
آ I hope you come to Iran one day. There are many of these hillmen in Iran
Would love to! There is 1 Iranian version here, imported decades ago and recently fully restored. Completely shocked me when I stumbled across it!
Very cool
I owned one from a oamaru back in the early 72 a 67 1725 manual

Nice car❤️
Iranian government or dealers were still dealing sales for Hillman hunter GLS sedan etc I'm a new Zealand to n looking to buy one for 3k 67 KLM
Oddly there is an Iranian imported Hunter here (it was imported by an Iranian guy many decades ago and was fully restored by his son about 2-3 years ago). It came to Cars & Coffee Bangkok and I was quite shocked when I got close up and saw the badging, I had never seen this version before.
Iranian were still dealing with the rooted group called a Payak GLS to plain Jane 🍿🍿
A Hillman Hunter in Australia these are worth not much they are not selling they are not reconised they were plenty sold my father had one there are a couple for sale and other Hillmans are been for sale for 5 years
They're not worth much here either. Quite unknown.
@@EddEllisonTh They were many years ago my father owned one the Hillman Hunter won the first London to Sydney marathon but now there are a couple for sale but nobody's buying them as with many british classic cars and of course they are two much
@@lesklower7281 Your Dad had quite a cool piece of history on his hands. That Hunter in the video is now in Bangkok actually. Very oddly, there's also one of the Iranian assembled Hunters here which had a full restoration 2-3 years ago, quite surprised me when I accidentally came across it.
We use this car today in iran😃
There's actually one Iranian version here, imported long time ago and recently restored.
