Thinking of buying a piano / keyboard VST (virtual instrument)? Was Keyscape on your radar? Watch this review first to experience sound demos, honest impressions and hear the piano sounds that are part of Keyscapes' keyboard collection.
Don't make a purchase without all the information! This is only the first part of the review. In subsequent videos we'll explore more sounds from Keyscape: Rhodes, Wurlitzer, Clavinet, Pianet, Harpsichord, Electric grand piano (Yamaha CP70) and other exotic / historic keyboard instruments.

    Other important info:
*Keyscape allows you to carefully carve the velocity response to your own liking - i.e the way its sound engine interacts with your keyboard controller.
*Each sound has unique sound shaping options. A a Rhodes or a Tack piano patch you may alter the loudness of the hammers and the mechanical noises. Acoustic pianos let you adjust pedal noise, resonance, tone color etc.

I had no success with Keyscape. There is no ADSR on their VST. I can't believe that, every other VST in the world does. And I played it with 3 controllers and many velocity settings, never found anything that worked. Your experience may be completely different of course. The KAWAI you played in the video sounds far better, thanks for vid!

Thank for watching mate, glad it helped you. Personally I don't find an ADSR on a piano VST important but I can't argue over preference ! The Kawai piano sound is indeed fantastic compared to any similar hardware IMHO :)

@@YotamPiano The D next to middle C has a clunk in the release. It was so annoying. spent many hours trying to fix that decay on just that note. Couldn't do it. Very bothersome if you are doing solo piano albums which I do often. Really annoying when doing fast repeats on that note and a couple others too.
I ended up just abandoning the whole app. Found much better Rhodes and Wurlitzer than that as well. To each his own I guess.

Currently, I am using VSL's Steinway D and though it is good, I am disappointed with an annoying ring that occurs in the upper keys. If my piano player is really hammering those higher keys, that ring becomes so prominent it upsets the tonal balance perceived by the ears. It even hurts. Oh well. Am curious to see your recommendations in the future.

Interesting. Sounds frustrating honestly to hear such ring every time you play I wouldn't have been able to cope with it. If I were you I'd try another plugin, or at the very least start by diagnosing whether the ring is built into VSL or is it a settings / hardware / etc. issue.

Spectra's target audience for Keyscape is NOT the ultra discerning solo pianist. Pianoteq and libraries such as VSL (I have and love both in addition to Keyscape) cover that very well. Keyscape is designed for the artist who needs a decent variety of production and gig-ready keys that sound great and sit well in the mix out-of-the-box. And for that use case, there is still nothing better, IMO. So those looking for the ultimate acoustic piano here are missing the point of Keyscape.
