Jacob is using a Roland A-88 to play Keyscape in this video. The keyboard stand is a custom Gibraltar build.
Spectrasonics, you held onto this for 7 years? How many more gems do you have stored in the backroom? Also, this marketing strategy is stellar; you should consider bringing artists together to make a full-blown Keyscape album.
They actually aired it 7 years go...this is just a repost.
Nope! From the same session, but this performance has never been aired before today actually! When we invite artists they usually play for hours and there are all sorts of amazing moments! We released Jacob’s legendary C7 grand piano improv shortly after the original session, but we thought it would be fun to show his reaction to the Upright now 😊
@@SpectrasonicsVIDEO oh nice!
I’m like… “how many more gems are you holding from us Keyscape!!”
I was thinking the same thing
Fine, I’ll binge watch all my favorite videos on this channel again…
Jacob dialed-down is so damn pleasant.
Keyscape is just an incredible VST. Even after nearly 10 years still the best out there, no doubt about it
AH lovely to hear Pat Metheny's 'James' in there... 1:35 to 2:00 :-)
Sounds a little bit like shawn martin's yellow jacket aswell hahahaha
@@yell0he actually sampled it from Pat’s song
we need him to make his version, those voicings are lovely, LOTS OF LOVE TO JACOB
thanks❤
glad I wasn't the only one to hear it!
“James” at 1.36 is something. I have been an addicted to these series from the early days. Great job Spectrasonics
Thank you so much! Glad you enjoy them as much as we do making them!
FINALLY another long form Jacob video! edit to add: That Metheny quote at 1:35 is FANTASTIC!
He also used John Williams theme from "Close Encounters of the third kind". 6:40 . He just played what came to his mind. Genius.
similar to the yellow jacket by shaun martin
Love how at its core, Persing is just a lover of music and musicians.
man, this guy is beautiful on so many levels... thank you Jacob, and of course Spectrasonics, you guys are amazing💜
jacob never ceases to amaze me, he's so incredibly skilled but so childishly excited to play around with things like this and it always makes me happy knowing he's always gonna hold onto that inner child.
I cannot believe he just played James by Pat Metheny! And in what and incredible way he did, wow
Wing upright is my favourite of the Keyscape collection. Just oozes character and pulls you in when playing it.
1:09 his little melody from Grieg's Piano concerto Op 16,
I'm dying
His laugh at 3:06 after using the pitch bend is everything!! 😆 love it!!
if i close my eyes, i would never ever guess that thats not a real piano. amazes me everytime - thanks for doing this, you keep people inspired!
This upright reminds me of the one I grew up with, and wished I had with me wherever I lived.
Over the years, I have watched literally all the Keyscape Sessions, and finally bought KS last week. There are many very special performances among the series, (Jacob, Shaun Martin and of course, the incomparable Corey Henry; must be a Snarky Puppy thing!).
I'm primarily a drummer, in fact, but piano and was the first musical instrument around the house when I grew up and I feel connected to piano and keys. This should be quite a fascinating journey.
It's cool seeing the footage this many years later, the uprights on Keyscape are underrated
Israel! Cool seing you here
watching the goat play the most goated sample library is the most goatastic goat fest i've ever seen with my own goat eyes
I rediscover my love for Keyscape with every new video.
Always a great pleasure to see Jacob Collier featuring Spectrasonic's stuff ! That was lovely !
Glad you enjoyed it!
The finest pianos collection combined with one of the finest and prolific musicians of this decade 🔥🔥🔥🙌🏾. I got the pop corn. Well done.
Beautiful art. I use the Wing Upright so much in all my productions. Lovely to see Jacobs playfullness!
Thank you very much!
Hearing James was beautiful
Return of the King.
This is my favourite of the Jacobs. Him and some keys. The fancy sounds are a bonus. But a striped back solo/messing about Jacob is my favourite.
This has always been my favorite patch from the library, so raw and beautiful
Damn. I love so much the original Jacob video that I made it my alarm haha. To find this 7 years later bringed me so much joy nostalgia and fullfulment. This guy it's really made out of music and emotion and your software really delivers!
Phenomenal video. Jacob’s love for the music and the instrument is evident.
The solid skill of this guy and this instrument are just fantastic.
Ahhhh....cant believe this... Spectrasonics ❤❤❤
JC ❤️❤️❤️
A very special Artist and a very beautiful instrument.
You guys are the kings of sound desing ❤
So so amazing, n jacob demonstrated well
It sounds beautiful
Jacob killin’ it - super nice!
Absolutely stunning, thanks
Thank you! Cheers!
Amazing to listen to Jacob's playing, as always. The sounds are, in the hands of a master, incredible as well. I've had Keyscape since it came out, but never explored the upright piano sounds. Henceforward I'll devote more time to them. This is why I keep coming back to this channel, it's a source of inspiration. Thank you :)
Great to hear, our pleasure!
I love spectrasonics
Gorgeous!!! Hope more info to come

1:35 Lyle... ❤❤❤❤
I have been a professional musician for over 43 years. Started on a Hammond B3 and then moved to a Mk1 Fender Rhodes with a Juno 60 on top . Over the years I have had dozens of digital pianos from most of the leading brands.
I am as fussy about the sound as I am in the correct chords being played in song. It is clear the VST sounds are on another level compared to even £3000+ digital pianos I have owned. What I do not understand is why there is not a stand alone ' Box" with just 1 midi input. Very simple and ideally just a few buttons and a small screen to choose each sound loaded for live gigs. I have no desire to start trying to take a computer with all its issues and fragile build quality on stage. My everyday computer is a Macbook pro. Probably the strongest and most stable computer available but this is still not in the same class for durability as my K2500 Rack mount that has been on thousands of gigs literally all around the world and never being a problem. I am not looking for something inexpensive . For the right bit of kit there is almost no budget within reason? Its 2024 and we have huge libraries of sounds on offer from several companies . I cant understand why no one has realised there are probably many people like me who want to gig these amazing sounds LIVE ON STAGE !! Shame.
Jacob Collier meets Spectrasonics…I was already sold but now that’s a truly deserved acknowledgement of how good the stuff is…quite unfair though, he could make a fart machine sound like the best Steinway, just with some fartmony tricks…😄 keyscape is one step above, this is just showing us it still holds true! The Jarrett inspired stuff at the end is just gorgeous!
Legend!
Thanks for uploading this! 😁
Our pleasure!
Love it Eric! I am still using my Genelec 1032A's (5 of them) in may ATMOS room fully updated electronics by Genelec a year ago. Sent one back and they told me to just send the electronics because they could not believe how well maintained they were! HAH
wait you've kept this from us for 7 years??
Oh we have many amazing performances in the vault! 😊
this is too good to be true i just reviewed his last session at keyscape
Nice!! And nice tribute to Lyle as well :)
Thanks for sharing
Thanks for making sùch a beautiful library i need to try this it sound so real so immaculate
Glad you like it!
I hope to get the keyscape pack at some point! So many amazing sounds! I'm not in a spot right now to buy the pack unfortunately, but hearing all these legendary musicians play around on it is a great substitute until I can hopefully buy the pack. Thanks for sharing!
Our pleasure! 🙂
His playing at the beginning sounds gorgeous, like some Keith Jarrett that i use to listen a long time ago .. especially around 1:18) .. Love it
My favorite go2
for anyone wondering what he's playing at 1:35 its a version of pat methenys "james"
1:27 is this “The Yellow Jacket” by Shaun Martin? Cool nod.
the wizard in his robe is back!
…Keyscapetastic…!!!
I really love when Victoria sung to this library she makes me fall inlove
Piano fingers, how i wish i had those.
nice
Keyscape is fantastic. Will we ever have an upgrade to have other pianos models (Bosendorfer, Bluthner, Fazioli). That would be amazing.
Lots of cool stuff in the works! 😊
😍😍😍😍
OMG!
*From **1:04** to **1:15** Jacob you play the beginning of the 2nd movement (adagio) of Grieg's concerto in A minor (but with your personal harmonization) you confirm ?* 😉
Spectrasonics, please do one more with greg philliganes, please, please 🙏 🙏🙏
When is Jacob gonna do an instrumental jazz record?? Come on now!!
Nice! What master keyboard is this? Roland A88 Mk1?
Correct! 😄
1:35 = Shaun Martin's "Yellow Jacket" (???)
Beautiful! Is this just the default setting on the Wing Upright?
It is!
@@SpectrasonicsVIDEO Thank you very much! Sounds lovely
OK THATS IT. I need something Chinese Sampled based Asian Plugin named Sakura Blossom OR SOMETHING because y'all are the only people i know that could break the LIMITS you guys only have 4 instruments snd i own only 3 witch is basically all of your stuff. you are the only people i know that can really really do this and i swear I WOULD PAY FOR EVERY PENNY FOR YOU GUYS TO DO THIS 😂😂😂 if i can describe what you guys plugins would be is FULL PHAT AND WARM EXTREMELY WARM. Plugins make me feel like Winter is soooo good 🤦⛩️🥢🔥🔥💯we need this i will literally Give my ENTIRE WALLET and be broke for the rest of my life if this was to happen. 😮😮❤❤❤❤plugins have advanced and i still dont see nothing like SPECTRASONICS. its all i use now. Ever since i bought these 3 i never reached for another Piano Vst only piano vsts i use now is Keyscape & TruePianos Permanently. And the only bass plugin i needed was trilian and omggg. 🤦🤦🤦🔥🔥🔥 I seriously need a Asian library based on nothing but Spectrasonics because. SHEESH. ❤❤❤
Awsome as always! You should get Nahre Sol to play sometime...
She did a wonderful video on her own with Keyscape’s Celeste actually! ❤
I thought that 1:35 was 'The Yellow Jacket - Shaun Martin'
Also think it’s this.
@@Capt-Levi What I think he was doing was mixing both Shaun Martin's "The Yellow Jacket" and Pat Metheny/Lyle Mays "James." Certainly the chord progression is rooted in "James" written as a tribute to James Taylor on the PMG "Offramp" album. While "The Yellow Jacket" is very much based on Russell Ferrante's (Yellowjackets band) harmonic approach. Very cool way of blending those.
good to hear a smidgen of Yellow jacket by Shaun Martin from 1:35 to 1:40
...I wish you also had a Swedish Jan Johansson jazz Upright
Man I was thinking about buying this and this video is just persuading me more, but it’s gonna leave me so broke. 😅😭
It doesn’t sound like this when I play it, did you give him a special version to play?
This is the same version of the Wing Upright that is present in every copy of Keyscape. But, there are a few things to consider that affect the final sound you get!
One thing is the velocity curve setting in Keyscape. Since all MIDI controllers output velocity differently, it’s important to select the appropriate velocity curve preset for your controller, or adjust the velocity curve parameters manually to your own personal touch and preference.
Every sound in Keyscape is also very tweakable, so we always select the patch variations and adjust the settings to optimize the sonic result for each artist’s performance. We encourage you to experiment with all of the settings in the sound you choose to find the best result for your music!
Hope this helps! 🙂
One other thing to consider is that you’re NOT Jacob Collier 🤔
Do you any have plans on releasing "clean" upright? Pretty please 🥺
We've got lots of cool stuff in the works. What specifically do you mean by "clean"?
@@SpectrasonicsVIDEO @SpectrasonicsVIDEO I mean upright piano sounds that have less grit, tack, rattle and sounds more.. 'maintained'. I still love this sound btw, because it has a ton of character. But there are times i like to use upright sounds that are more ‘boring’ and clean.
@@hesangasong Perfect! We'll put that on the wishlist for the future! 🙂
I would buy this stuff tomorrow if I understood how to use it. I have a digital piano, I can play it, but how do I install this kind of thing? What do I need?
Keyscape runs on a PC or Mac computer, either as a standalone application or a plugin within DAW software. You can then play Keyscape as an instrument by using a MIDI keyboard attached via USB to the same computer. In this video, Jacob is using a Roland A-88 keyboard to play the Keyscape software that is running on a MacBook Pro. If you have any other questions about how to get started with Keyscape, feel free to contact us at info@spectrasonics.net and we'll be glad to help! 🙂
@@SpectrasonicsVIDEO Ah, that's really helpful! Thank you. The Wing Upright sounds sublime by the way.
pls invite him again tho hes too busy these days
Conversation at 0:54
JACOB: "You get the sound of the dampers rising."
Spectrasonics (correcting a genius): "Actually, it's the pedal."
JACOB (with lovable humility): "Yeah, yeah."
Both are right actually, since the pedal raises the dampers 😊
Any news about Omnisphere 3?
Ye shall see… 😊
YO WHY DIDNT YOU RELEASE THIS SOONER
Ha! Glad you like it 🙂
The only thing I dislike about this particular sampled piano is the noise on the upper keys.. sounds like some sticky tape rattling around on the hammers or something else being loose. I know it gives character but it gets annoying real fast. Wish there was a way to disable the particularly noisy samples and have a few clean round robins. Another thing I wish Keyscape had was keyboard tracked midi velocity curve. For this piano, you can get a very nice mellow sound by forcing the lower range of the velocity curve but unfortunately the low keys then get way too soft. So ideally I'd like to be able to scale the velocity curve according to keyboard tracking +/- 200% scale or something like that.. then you could have the really soft notes at top and enable harder velocity hits on the bottom keys.
Thanks for the feedback…super helpful! What kind of keyboard do you have?
@@SpectrasonicsVIDEO Oh I have several. My main go-to is my trusty refurbished K2500X and my backup/alternative is a Roland FP-30x.. and many synths too of course. My point is, it's not my keyboard that is in question here. :)
I just like the soft velocities of that particular piano, a lot.. but mainly for the higher notes whereas I would like to have the higher velocity samples for the lower octaves (from around C3 downwards) as they get so incredibly soft without any attack at the low velocities. Of course I can adjust this with my playing or editing manually the MIDI score but it would be nice to be able to precisely "force" a range of velocities over the whole keyboard range instead of just the universal velocity range tool.
That’s super helpful and detailed feedback. We’ll see if we can add an alternative map like you’ve described here in a future update. Cheers! 😊
What is the keyboard used?
Roland A88 MKI 😄
