I like of how the special effects are so well integrated that you really believe them. It seems that special effects now a days just aren't believeable as they were in the late 90's/early 2000's.
That's because they're all really there. There's actually props to interact with. Compare the Lord of the Rings movies with the Hobbit movies for example. The Lord of the Rings movies have real props. Real things for the actors to touch and interact with. In The Hobbit, a lot of things are not actually there so it's awkward and fake. Both were made by the same people with several of the same actors. However, there is a huge gap in quality because of the CGI.

fun fact: the actor who played bruce actually HATED cake
Damn...poor guy
Omg that is the definition of ironic
That sucks 😔
Well I gotta give it to him then bc he made me want that cake
Prove it
Matilda is my favorite movie!!!!!!!:):):)
its_tindy I know right it's so advanced for that time
the movie would be in my top 10 films I like.
why?
This was a really special movie for me
acabei de assistir, muito nostalgia da infancia
This sure was the best movie I knew when I was young.. You saved my childhood!
I was hoping we’d get to see how they built the chokey.
DAGNAB I WISH TOOOOO
y e s
That chokey tho!
Hahaha, yeah that would have actually been cool!
I think I read that they put a bunch of rubber nails that don’t hurt when they touch you, so when the doors shut the “nails” feel like nothing. No clue where I got that but it’s probably out there somewhere.
“Computer Genarated Image.... called CGI” Ahhh... the good 90’s
Laila Dobb 90s actually lmao

I love this book and movie! Pam Ferris looked so different from her character Miss Trunchbull. She's so elegant and lovely in real life! That was some movie magic!
It's really nostalgic to see how they explain how they do the floating chalk or pitcher with practical effects - today that's 100% done with computers; practical effects is a dead art.
Omg I love how they made Mrs. Trunchbull's character !
me too;)
+Hakeem Johnson i heard she's really sweet in real life
Allie Whitmarsh I believe it 😊
Allie Whitmarsh she also plays aunt marge, you know the aunt that harry blows up because she called his mother a bitch and then inflated her
She also played Sister Evangelina in call the midwife. I was so confused when I found out that there the same actor 😂
I love how Danny always says every scene was so much fun to do. He's adorable
Pam Ferris seems like such a genuinely nice woman. the way she interacted with Jacqueline in the braid scene was very gentle
Haha yep. Jacqueline probably loved being spun around in that harness, must have kinda felt like being on a fun ride.
I love it when one of the crew members shouts "Don't smile" at 5mins 24seconds lol

The way all of them talk about the special effects and how it was done sounds like it was made in someone's garage, a home movie type. But in a positive way like you can see how Dani was so proud and close to his work and the actors and the staff.
Everyone on cast did such a beautiful job on this movie. It’s truly a masterpiece and will continue to be enjoyed for generations to come
OMG I had no idea that Danny Devito and Rhea Perlman are actually married!! That's awesome!
Chelsea English It's rarely common in movies and TV shows, but it's true. Real life married couples can play fictional married couples too.
Ikr.
Ikr! Its amazing
Same here!! Didn't know until reading your comment!
Were. They separated 2017 after being together for 40 years. They still love each other though and are super close so.... no divorce, they just live apart.
Danny Devito is so adorable! I love every movie he's in. He's such a genuinely sweet, rolly poly little guy! He seems so huggable and nice!
i’m soo glad that danny and rhea are the complete opposite of the characters they played. like completely, totally opposite. they’re soo sweet.
I never realised Danny and Rhea are married! Great to see husband and wife acting together as husband and wife
Danny Devito seems like a genuinely kind guy and seems to really know how to communicate with child actors. All the children in the movie seemed to really enjoy themselves, even though the whole process can be overwhelming. Respect
Danny devito is a legend. I love how the rude characters in the movie are actually so nice😁
Miss Honey will be my forever crush
Why isn't she in more movies?
Lupa Lupo Some people retire from being an actor
sophiexoxo What about Cookie? She’ll make you all the chocolate cake in the world.
sophiexoxo You would love her in Army of Darkness with Bruce Campbell.
She will be my hot babe
Embeth is so poised. And like, her accent? She's iconic dude.
She’s South African 😆
@@rawgerwaters that explains why she's so beautiful. Just like Charlize Theron.
Her accent is just beautiful. I love a South African accent! So easy to listen to.
“It’s like a cornfield after a storm, isn’t it” I LOVE PAM
I didn't know that Matilda's dad was the director
and Narrator
+Panda39819 AJ
and co-writer, as well, I believe. The man is great.
Robert Ryan YAAAASS
Robert Ryan No, Matilda is based on the book of the same name by Roald Dahl, and the screenplay of the movie was written by other people. But yes, he's amazing.
Janelle Meap I didn’t know Britney had autism. I have autism too. But i think Little Rascals is better than Matilda
it's just amazing how such a sweet lovely lady like pam ferris can play the mean, horrifying trunchbull. that's true talent there X3
One of my favorite movies of all time. Watched it probably almost daily as a child. Tempted to throw it on tonight.
I love Danny and Rhea both. I'm glad they're still married and I hope they stay married 'til they leave this Earth.
Keith Evers who on earth has not heard of till dheth do us part
Izzi Androo I didn't want to use the words "die" or "death."
rip they’re separated (but not divorced) now
The things they did to create the special effects were so creative. in 2019 everything is done on computers now
Cheaper. Thats why they did it that way back then, too. It was cheaper and more realistic than CGI was at the time.
Hi dear.im from the future 2021!
Really loved this movie as a kid. Brought me back to the 90s. So nice to see behind the scenes as an adult.
“Don’t smile, its horrifying”
:)
😀
Ive always wondered how they swung the kid around 😂
Yeah same, without hurting her too! Makes sense that they would use a harness and fake pigtails when I think about it now! 🤣
They had a string and flew her everywhere but they edited it out

Best life advice literally, thank you. Also the way he says "it was so much fun" instead of "it was so difficult" is mind blowing. From now on, I'll think of my homlessness adventures as fun. The challenges were very difficult, but I also had fun.
........ I don't think being homeless if fun my dude
I honestly had no idea that the man of everyone's dreams directed this movie!
This has been my favorite movie since I was insanely little, this movie will never me forgotten in my mind.
danny devito is so adorable and i can't explain why
He is a very kind and genuine man
i really love how they cooperated like a family behind the scenes
I am 21 yrs old and obssessed with Madtila now than I was when I was younger! I AM WATCHING THE MOVIE NOW!
LaTina N Sylvia Davis I didn’t see Matilda until I was 21 myself but that was four years ago.
Same I’m 22! Such a delightful, feel-good movie 💕
You went all those years without seeing this? Wow that's crazy
You should read the book, it's really good
Jacqueline is really cute and she is like the real Matilda. Wish I was like her...
I literally watched Matilda 30 times 🤣🤣 such a classic
Nah by now like Googolplex if ykyk or just look the word up “Googolplex”😂
He was such a good director and seemed like such a good fatherly figure to them😭😭❤
I was 7-8 years old when I watched this movie for the first time a year or so after it came out. It was on HBO in Argentina. It brings back so many memories of my childhood in my home country. I'm 33 years old today and I still leave it on If I happen to find it on some channel. Thanks Danny for such a timeless classic!
3:51 I'm glad she put a disclaimer to not blow up your T.V.
Danny Devito is so wonderful with children. I just love him to pieces.
I love it. Never get tired to see it. So classic.
embeth is SOOOOOO pretty
Fr 😩
