I went on a school trip a few years ago to London for 2 days in Year 6 and we went to see Matilda on west end, when Mr Wormwood threw his fake cigar into the crowd one of my classmates caught it and pretended to be smoking the whole time, when we were walking back to the hotel we got stopped by a policeman and my teachers had to explain it was fake and he got it from the Musical.
I went to see this with my school a few years ago. Such a great musical and all of the actors were amazing! Totally recommend to anyone who like musicals! Fantastic music!
I pure love the Matilda play, my school took me to see it along with others who auditioned in school for our school re-make version,( i was given thenrole of lavender) but every moment of the play we watched was just outstanding!
my son loves to sing trunchball and he also has the ribbon and the costume! we are waiting for some medals to arrive with his costume (he already has made his own trunchball costume).
I wonder if this actor tried to scare the kids outside of the performance to remain in character, like Pam Ferris, who played the Trunch in the movie adaptation of the book, did it.

I really like how they design the make up and the costume it’s very fascinating and clever I can see how they organise the musical this is my favourite musical ever I really would have the experience and opportunity for it. No matter how many people is going to be in London as long as I try and best and decide what character I want to play
The first time I was in Matilda (I’m in it a second time as Miss Honey but I was a big kid the first time) our Trunchbull had to shave his head to fit in the wig lmao
At home counting his millions? Seriously though, as I've heard him point out in interviews, he has moved on to other projects while the musical has continued on.
I'm playing Trunchbull too but in mine they've gender-bended it since cross-dressing is illegal, I wonder what they'll change and keep the same for mine
@@lolawalker9605 I don't think it's more funny. Look at Pam Ferris; she did it perfectly. There is no need for a man to play the part. There are barely any roles for women of that build and yet there are enough capable of performing that role.
A bloke who DRESSES as a woman. WE heard of Peter pan being played by women but I don,t know if we have heard of a bloke playing a woman before. Interesting!!
I know that this is a bit late to respond to, but that’s just how theater goes. You get the person; regardless of their gender to play a role. They look for people whose body and how they sound when speaking/singing. I mean for instance; Ms. Trenchbull is often played by a guy; because they need a tall, and more masculine look to increase the intimidation the character gives off. Yes there are women who can fit the description and play the role of her; but it just boils down to how the character acts and what they look for in the actor to play that part.
I can't be the only one that finds it a TAD BIT tone deaf to have a man play this role, under the implication that a man playing a masculine woman is somehow humorous, right?
it's to make her taller and stronger than all the other people in the play and to allow her to have a deeper voice and range. Also in the UK we are used to pantomime dames, it was written for a Uk audience.
@@UserSmith100 I know that's how it's supposed to be, it's just iffy to make a woman masculine or have a man play a woman for laughs, because it's transphobic, it makes trans women (who can often appear more masculine than cis women) seem like men pretending to be women, or, in this case, evil. Don't get me wrong, I love Matilda, I'm just not fond of the tendency to make the trunchbull masculine to make her seem more nasty.
Mica Young It’s not that deep dude, trunchbull as a character was always the more stereotypical big hulking woman. And not to mention that the part is written for someone with a bass vocal range. Pam Ferris an English actress played the role in the movie. She was the first woman to play the role.
First & only I believe. Ferris is cumbersome as herself but it's a lot easier in film to give the character a bit...more.
