  • Action from Mitsubishi Ralliart's 1999 team launch event, probably held around the 25 November 1998, at Phil Price Rallyschool in Wales. Originally produced by Greenlight for in-house use. Converted from VHS master tape. For VHS Rallies' exclusive range of classic rallying t-shirts, hoodies and mugs, visit vhsrallies.teem...

Interesting and fantastic to see the Evo V with the 1999 Marlboro livery.

Yes, I think it probably ran in that colour scheme just for this promotional filming day.

    Funny that:
So, Mitsubishi launched their 1999 team launch, the day after:
Mitsubishi bagged the PWRC driver's championship (Gustavo Trelles).
Mitsubishi bagged the WRC manufacturer's championship, with assistance from Richard Burns (The final time, that a WRC manufacturer won, fielding a Group A rally car, against the might of WRC cars, since Group A & WRC share identical specs).
Mitsubishi bagged the WRC driver's championship by Tommi Makinen (Apologies, Sainz Sr.).
..........What a way to make a launch.
So, while their new Lancer Evo VI is under construction, the Marlboro paint scheme was draped into the Lancer Evo V (My personal favorite of the classic-era Lancer Evos) as a stand-in for a photo-op & showcase.
And Richard Burns is now re-acquainted once again at Subaru.

@@VHSRallies There were really some big talents gap aren't they? Just got into Group A era recently during Covid lockdown. I noticed probably only 4 person to be able compete for World Championship title. Like Makkinen and Freddy has huge gaps between them. The likes of Armin Schwartz who were unbeatable for decades in regionals yet never really made an impact on WRC. Those who were able to compete for World Championship are really special breed of talent.
