The movie is war horses and their was a cavalry charge into German camps but we're counter-attacked and all the men died along with some horses

My great grandpa was a Frenchman who fought through the entire of ww1 he got injured in 1914 august 4th(the first battle of the Marne)my great grandma says after the war when he got his daily doggy he would throw it on the ground because of the nightmares he saw he was about 24 after the war (he was 19 on the first battle).he then died December 5 1969

Also this battle was accurate because till the Russian's during the Brosvolo Offensive that effectively killed Austria-Hungary, used a massive wave attack on the Austrian-Hungarian lines that effectively were Stormtrooper tactics the Germans would use to great affect later on.
Before that both sides were focus on a particular spot within the enemies defenses to break through allowing the enemy to know where to send troops to reinforce the area. The Russian offensive basically made it impossible to effectively reinforce the areas under attack because all areas were under attack.
Actually you forgot the Sappers who dug the trenches they also charged the battlefield.

Your right on the horse being in a movie but there's historical photos of a mangled horse in barbwire in nomansland and in fact when rations or food was at a low horse meat was alternative but I'm sure it would have been hard expecting to only live for 8 days or so. Ww1 trench warfare was brutal

I'm now 64, my grandfather was in WW1, went through the Blitz in London with my mum, then died in 1950's, from the mustard Gas poisoning, he had recieved in WW1, he would be clear for a couple of years, then had huge blisters all over his body, so what was happening on inside of him god only know's, as said it killed him, in his early 50's, my father and family were in 2nd
W.War, and my fathers uncles they were twins and both in same regiment, (they were a few years older than him), my great Uncles, were at Dunkirk, and witnessed the Germans Executing British POW's, they swore to get revenge, they escaped from Dunkirk, when they both went back on D-Day, they NEVER, EVER TOOK 1 GERMAN PRISONER, no matter the circumstances, they were both proud of this, as I remember talking to both of them, in 1960's & 70's, in ex-servicemans, working mans club, there black sense of humour, was amazing.
