- The French Fortress De Vaux during the Battle of Verdun must defend against a huge German charge over No Mans Land. The defense of the fortress is one of the largest battles in history. This was made using the men of war assault squad 2 world war 1 Great War Mod Battle Simulator.

Please make a battle where you control a clone (2x health is a option) and if you die, the enemy wins. You can chose any gun(s) except the super sniper. You can also have a squad of maximum 5 clones following you (you chose the equipment of each individual soldier), but you have to be on the attacker team in a attack/defence map. AI outside your squad can't be controlled except if the AI is bugged. You only have 3 tries or the mission is a failure and if you get less than 4 kills, you also lose. Yeah Verdun was a series of large forts holding tens of thousands of men each and were huge compared to the landscape around them. The battle lasted for 9 months and the German took over 5 of the 13 forts I think but they were kicked off by the French but this costed them a lot of men. This is the main reason why they created the Maginot line due to the casualties in the Battle of Verdun.

Oh, please no. Daley makes fun to watch videos, but his history needs a little bit of work. He seems to approach military history from the political/social view, and his descriptions of battles and circumstances range from decent to cringe worthy. There is a lot of great literature on the Great War that can hit to socio/political stuff but can also accurately describe the combat and conditions. This is rarely done, as generally writers, professors and perhaps even some historians want to portray WW1 in a manner more Marxist then accurate. The Archetype of this is probably Howard Zinn and a handful of his writings. It suited his purpose, and the purpose of the British anti-war 20’s movement, to misrepresent combat in the war.

The germans took both Vaux and Douaumont but at the end of the battle the french brought rail canons which absolutely destroyed the forts. The first shots these canons took were training shootings to calibrate the gun and the obliterated the bunkers in the fort killing dozens.
ps: the germans needed only 12 men to capture Douaumont and the french lost around hundred times more to take it back.
So, usually we see Stormtrooper of the first galactic empire, and here we see Störmtrooper of the first german empire...

And a Star Wars fan of course haha. I think a lot of people don't realize how insane WW1 was and how unregulated the weapons of war were back then.
Daley, you could try and do the The "Brusilov Offensive" that occured in June of 1916 on the eastern front of WWI. Hoards of Infantry from both The Russian side and the Austrian side with German backup. Would be pretty cool.

You've go a great knowledge of the battle of Verdun. Indeed it's as you said, the germans took the fort during the last months of the battle but after; it was retake by us. But there wasn't any british in that battle since they were already engaged in the battle of the Somme an even bloodier battle; and the french army did possess reinforcements during that war thanks to Pétain who kept the sacred way which bring the soldiers to Verdun. Just so you know, both sides brought way mor artillerie then just those you show; Verdun was a true hell since the beginning with explosions every 5 meters and there was fire everywhere with such bombardement; one of the biggest bombardement in all history if not the worst and biggest; there was also the famous chemical weapons with the gaz bomb. But for the rest, it was a well decent copy of the true battle. And for the win, ... well ... we can say we won because we kept the objectives which were the forts and the city of Verdun was never reach by the germans but that was a terrible pyrrhic victory and also the two armies suffered heavy traumas from the battle.

I think you're speaking about fort vaux the first fort sieged by german during verdun but the french did retake it at the end of the battle
