Les, what do you think of living outside in the countryside area? You can't just walk to a shopping mall, go to modern restaurants, or sit outside a bar overlooking the sea while you drink a cold beer. Take a brisk walk along the seafront. Hard to go out for a walk as the roads are narrow and dangerous. In the countryside, you can enjoy the beautiful natural nature and sounds. Watch the birds and butterflies visit your garden area. Hear the croaking and night sounds of the insects. Smell the trees, grass, and small lakes around you. At night you can look up and see the stars,. But early evening time you have to fight off the swarms of mosquitoes and chase away the ants. But life is quiet and peaceful. Not disturbed. Having a Garden is rewarding and requires looking after - i.e., that means exercise, bending the back and seeing the rewards of one's work. Living at the seaside is everyone's dream. But after 3 months, it can get boring for many. So what do you think of life at the sea v countryside life?.
Hi I have the beauty of having both, we live 5 min drive from a great beach and we live near some lakes which many people walk around for exercise, the trees are full of birds, and to have even more of a deferent lifestyle my wife has a farm in Korat right in the Countryside and it is truly off the tourist trail I am the only foreigner in the village and it is great we go see the wife's family and stay for a week or two.
The O visa IIRC needs 400,000 inpatient and 40,000 outpatient. When that costs 40,000 Baht it's a bit of a deal breaker. If they made you keep the 800,000 Baht savings in an escrow account against medical bills, and you only got it back at Suvarnabhumi when they cancelled your visa as you left, it would make more sense and be fairer. The ten companies offering the approved policies look like a cartel.
Thank you, very useful. I would just say that the majority of the tests listed are conducted by the GB NHS system, during the course of your life or at least have been for me. Cholesterol for the last 30 years and sugars since I turned 50 or 55. The abdomen scan is very important as it can give warnings of so many issues including pancreas, aorta, liver, gall bladder etc. Again I had one recently thanks to the NHS. But definitely worth having done wherever in the world. Cheers and thanks again
I had various tests 3 years ago when I returned to the UK but now with no need to return to the UK i will have to pay for such checks. Thanks for watching.
Excellent advise. I got travell insurance just for a couple of months which will not cover pre existing conditions, and it was about the same as your cover. Granted it covers accident which I think is an even more risks than Heart trouble. Calcium Score is so cheap here. Costs 10 x that back in AU.
Thanks for your Comment, Insurance is always a touchy subject, they always try to get out of paying if they can. Always be open and Honest with them as they will check at the time you need it the most. Being Honest then you know your covered or not.
Had medical test for insurance a few years ago- several problems showed up. Went back to the UK for the same tests- nothing at all wrong. Never bothered with insurance as it would have shown pre existing which was not there.
Excellent video and very helpful, I only found out about the Expat club insurance group earlier today and it looks like a good option. I've been corresponding with some brokers in Thailand and the minimum quote I got was over 230,000 baht a year. Personally I only really need accident cover but a little bit of inpatient cover probably isn't a bad idea. Many thanks for this and as you say and in my case I can fly home to Australia unless something kills me on the spot.
Les, As I'm in my late 50s and there's a history of high BP and cholesterol, I'm going to be getting the CT Cardiac scan within the next month. So, although I'm doing this on my own (it was planned before seeing your video...just happenstance) it was good to see your video also recommending it to your viewers. Hopefully, you actually save some lives by getting people to do this preventative test. I've got my fingers crossed as I know I have extremely high cholesterol (on medication) but its something you have to do on your own and pay out of pocket....well worth it.
My policy with Pacific Cross works out at 84 baht a day. You can usually reduce premiums by having an excess, which means you pay the first, for example 40,000 baht of treatment.
I looked at that option and the benefit went to 1,2 million but O paid the 1st 40,000 of any claim. Weighing everything up I decided to go with this one.
@@clivebaxter6354 Look on the positive side getting to 70 years old is great. That is the cost of getting old, I will still be buying at the age of 70 as I am lucky I will have enough to pay. No rent as house is paid for by that age, taking steps before you get to that age always plan ahead. It is only a shock if you fail to prepare. At a cost of just over 40,000 baht for 700,000 worth of cover is not being priced out from the age of 71 to 75. Thanks for taking time to comment
Good video thanks. Regarding the doctors in private and public hospitals, I've met so many who actually work in both. They will do a shift in the private hospital and then once finished go straight to the public hospital to do another. They are paid well but they do work all the hours.. 👍👍
Thanks for this, some great info. However, considering the state of british healthcare and what the torries have done to the system you may want to rethink your insurance and the idea of just simply flying back home for treatment. Another point, having worked as a lab tech in a leading hospital in australia, i know that not all lab techs are trained to the same standard and I suspect the same is true of doctors, hospitals likewise don't have the same level of kit. you make a good point about the number of people here not insured. i knew people driving around on motorbikes and doing all kinds of risky stuff and they didnt see the need. cheers
Great vlog informative & to the point I will be contacting Pacific Cross as soon as I get there in September. I totally agree 700,000 baht cover is sufficient to get you back to the UK. I have heard the stories about after 3 months you lose the NHS cover total rubbish a friend of mine presented himself at his local A&E with his UK passport & got sorted.
@@isaanman5399 I do understand what you say but in practice they won’t turn you away with a British passport in your hand but it does help if you keep a UK residential address which I have
My health insurance in Thailand covers inpatient and outpatient, any hospital (including international hospitals) no co-pay, no deductible $100,000USD limit (3,600,000THB) and costs 18,100THB/month.
It looks very hard to actually get 700k worth of treatment via that 700k policy though.. unless you maxed out in every section all in one year which is surely very unlikely. so in general I'd say it gives you about 100k depending on what thing it is that goes wrong.. which is fine for most things but if one single thing cost 700k you'd not be covered for that if I'm understanding the policy correctly.
Who ever understands a Policy, You may be correct but I hope never to make a claim against it to find out, but on the whole Pacific Cross has a good reputation. So fingers crossed I don't have to speak with experience about claiming on that insurance. Thanks for the comment.

Hi Les, thanks for a very informative and useful vlog. As a heart attack survivor I have been wondering and worrying about hospital costs for heart related problems. I am about to apply for Blue Cross insurance prior to my planned move to Thailand in September, but know it will exclude heart related treatment. So the prices you quote for check ups are very relevant to me. I am hoping that my US social security will cover my living costs and health insurance and expect to use a significant proportion of my savings on future heart related expenses. I am not sure that one is eligible for the NHS if, like me, one has lived outside the UK for years. As I mentioned in a previous comment, I heard that the Philippines has a reciprocal health arrangement with the UK, but perhaps I am confusing it with the pension arrangement that you discussed recently. But I have set my heart on Thailand, rather than PH, for the culture, beaches and scenery, so I am going to give it a try. I will let you know what quote I get from Pacific Cross after I get my medical results relating to their questionnaire later this month. Cheers, Colin
@@RetiredandLivingthedream So sorry to hear that your father died young. I hope you live to a ripe old age-I am sure the car washing will add years to your lifespan!
I’m amazed Thailand hasn’t implemented the requirement of compulsory meds insurance on annual renewal of visa extension , it’s something which seems to get bantered about every year
Your 100% correct but in a black and white world it would be so but we live in a grey world, I have not had one person say they were refused health care returning to the U.K. so as a law abiding citizen I will bend the law this time if needed. Or arrive on a raft from France and get everything Free.
Are you sure you can still fly back to the UK for treatment on the NHS if you've lived abroad over a certain length of time? I remember seeing information on various Google sites it invalidates your medical claim on the NHS.
Thailand Tam you are 100% correct once you leave the UK for more than 6 months, your out of the system, I have done a few videos now on this and I have not had one single comment to say they were refused treatment. But again this is in black and white but the situation is grey so is it wrong to bend the law on this occasion, but the answer may be to arrive in the UK on a raft then you get everything including Free treatment. I hope I never need to cross that bridge but I would kick up such a fuss if I were refused. But I also have a few idea's to get treatment if it were life threatening and they refused treatment, a very much out of the box solution but guaranteed to work. I know it may not be the answer your looking for but Black and White laws are at most very Grey Boris has shown that.
Thank you for that. I'm thinking of retiring to Thailand and was wondering about health insurance. Don't think I'd fancy being over there with no insurance. 24,000 isn't to bad really for peace of mind. Cheers Les

I did mention that you can secure yourself from being thrown off the land when you bought the house, this is a topic with many wounded buyers. I will put it into the suggestion box thanks very much. Thanks for watching.
Hi Les. Another great topic and one I was hoping you would cover. I'm currently on an OA visa but back in UK sorting out some UK bureaucracy for my Thai wife but I will return visa exempt and go down the O route when we return. Could you clarify did you take the 700k option or 1.2m option and what excess did you choose? I'm currently with Pacific Cross but at 3.5m cover which I want to reduce. Ps I like your comment about arriving in the UK on a raft and getting everything for free - so true and so unfair to "ban" ex UK tax payers from the NHS
I am English I have lived here 35 years, always used the government hospitals l have found them very good, I had sepsis two years ago 14 days in 50 thousand baht. Private would have been 1000000 baht, I think that I done well, so you have a choice.
When I renewed my policy I asked if I could use the public hospital as the insurance would go further she said I could. My friend used a Public hospital to get diagnosed with Dementia I have to say it was very good service 4 hrs everything done scan two doctors with the paperwork from the specialist to say he had dementia. 4,500 baht.

Hi, Les & Family enjoyed your video. Once again full of information and your intelligent insights. Very useful information Les As a person with underlying health issues I don't think anyone will insure me. So the money I would use for insurance I can use for medical costs. I have £50,000 set aside for emergency use if I need medical treatment or buy a ticket back to the UK. Keep up the good work you do for us, it is appreciated. Take care GOD Bless you and yours. M
Thanks , the Thai government are looking at self insurance eg if you have a house worth 3 million then that can act as a guarantee for the cost of medical treatment.
You only know if the insurance is good when it's time to claim and non of us want to make a claim I have to say when my then gf was sick they paid up no problem but even though she was covered for 1 million they needed my Credit card before the operation.
Hi Andrew you are of course 100% correct but if you live in a black and white world I would agree but we live in a grey world where everything is not black and white. Rules are getting bent all the time, from a law abiding citizen I would bend this law what they going to do lock me up where they would have to treat me, We all bend the law one way or another.
Well done for surviving a heart attack my dad had seven heart attacks so it's always in the back of my mind. He died young at 59
@@RetiredandLivingthedream So sorry to hear that your father died young. I hope you live to a ripe old age-I am sure the car washing will add years to your lifespan!
@@isaanman5399 Thanks for clarifying.
I’m amazed Thailand hasn’t implemented the requirement of compulsory meds insurance on annual renewal of visa extension , it’s something which seems to get bantered about every year
They have for AO visa
O/A Visa needs insurance a O visa needs non.
Again, great Info Les!
Glad you think so! thanks for watching
really great video.... thanks
So nice of you thanks for watching.
I might well be wrong but I thought if you was out the Uk now over 6 months you was out of the nhs system ?
Your 100% correct but in a black and white world it would be so but we live in a grey world, I have not had one person say they were refused health care returning to the U.K. so as a law abiding citizen I will bend the law this time if needed. Or arrive on a raft from France and get everything Free.
Oh right , never knew that mate 👍
Only if you are daft enough to tell them, why should you illegals get it for free
@@RetiredandLivingthedream - Yes I can not see a seriously ill person, especially a retiree being refused treatment for a medical emergency.
I was away 24 years and had no problem getting N.H.S Treatment.
@@MLVL312 I have herd no problems from anyone to be honest. They might just turn a blind eye whilst the bean counters are not looking.
Thank you for that. I'm thinking of retiring to Thailand and was wondering about health insurance. Don't think I'd fancy being over there with no insurance. 24,000 isn't to bad really for peace of mind. Cheers Les
It is a small amount to pay but does go up with age, it is a cheap country to live in until your sick then it can be expensive.
@@RetiredandLivingthedream 24K is plus $700
Thank you great info !!!
Thanks for watching Jim.
2:10 There is a saying among doctors: "The first symptom of heart disease is a fatal heart attack"
My dad died of a heart attack at 59, my mum had a deformity of the heart valve but lived to over 70 Mmmmm fingers crossed? Naaaa what happens will happen live a full life as and how you can. Thanks for watching.
Up to what age a person gets health insurance. I am running 78, can I be qualified to get insurance?
You can get insurance at any age but I would say the premium may put you off, they would insist on a medical before cover also.78 is a great age to be well done. Thanks for watching.
Thank you les good information about health insurance do you like hue hin is it good place to live from Scott new Zealand
Everywhere is nice in Thailand but yes Hue Hin is a nice place to live.
Another interesting vlog thanks Just an idea for future vlog have you ever thought about talking about a usufruct agreement between farang and Thai partner for securing the land in case Thai partner passes on
I did mention that you can secure yourself from being thrown off the land when you bought the house, this is a topic with many wounded buyers.
Thanks for your question. I took the 700,000 option. with no excess. this was THB 24,885 But I have a inflatable raft in my case.
@@RetiredandLivingthedream is that for a month?
@@anna_m59 That is per year policy. 24,885 baht per year.
good stuff Sir
Thank you kindly for watching.
Were did you get that 2500 price from Lee I got a quote from Bangkok Pattaya today it was 9000bt plus extras
Hi have a look at bangkokhearthospital.com they have promotions this is where I got the information. Hope this helps.
4,500 baht.
Hello all please can someone help
Im living in Thailand with my thai wife and I would like to get health insurance that includes everything inculed cancer care etc etc whats the cheapest company and that are good and wont scam me ..plus what should I pay for it thanks so much all
obviously on an O retirement visa with no minimum insurance cover , I think les needs to research the topic carefully , and then provide a more balanced presentation , including the types of visa requirements ,.
Thanks for your comment, but if you took note in the video it states this is my cost of insurance you need to check yourself on Your circumstances, Giving advice on every insurance option and on every visa possibility is impossible. Yes you are correct I am on the O visa. Researched done and dusted
Thanks , the Thai government are looking at self insurance eg if you have a house worth 3 million then that can act as a guarantee for the cost of medical treatment.
good luck with that.
I can't believe how many people think they will get sick
We all have to die of something Healthy people do not live forever.
Residence visa in Thailand = resident in Thailand, not anywhere else 😁.
A Retirement and a Resident visa are two different visa types.
@@RetiredandLivingthedream I know.
@@RetiredandLivingthedream A retirement visa is a type of residence visa, yep.
sorry its confulsing what is the name of the company ? thanks
Pacific Cross in the Medical Insurance company I use. Hope this helps.
Given the events of the last 2 years since Summer 2021, young men now need heart attack cover too.
Many things need to be covered when your getting older.
Is this a sponsored video by Pacific Cross? Trust me they do not pay up!
You only know if the insurance is good when it's time to claim and non of us want to make a claim I have to say when my then gf was sick they paid up no problem but even though she was covered for 1 million they needed my Credit card before the operation.
They have a good reputation

I thought we'd established that you can't go back to your home country to get healthcare if you're retired abroad? 🥰🤣🤣🤣
But thanks for your comment.
