I'm sure they'll make really nice pens will them Mr. Clothier... They really do look like marble... All these videos are useful for people to be able to have a go themselves...👍
Nice blanks John, I have been searching for a way to keep colours separate and have only recently made ribbons and watching Pam from Highland Boxes mention temperature you have confirmed that I need to look at that. I did come across a formula that helps me get almost the right amount of resin needed for each mould I create, will try and find the link for you. Great video... I also saw the small turning with the fine finial, another interest of mine..THanks for sharing
Thanks Buster. Yes let your resin thicken before pouring to keep the colours separate. Temperature is your key to this. Remember though that different resins have different temperatures they need to he for this so do a little experimenting.
@@JohnClothier many thanks john will let you know. In the meantime will check out your other videos. You seem to be doing what I want to do.. so thank you once again. Looking forward to pt 2 of the burl mould.
They look good to me John, have to be pleased with those. When you poured the white back into the main pot that certainly looked a lot thicker, so I guess the time was really ticking for how much you really had left. I'm guessing when the resin starts to go off it's like most things it goes really quickly whee you then end up with seconds to work with it rather than minutes.
Nice colours....definitely suit a pen. I don’t do pens yet I’m on bottle openers and bottle stoppers but I may pinch your colour choice for an opener😉 Nice work as always John👍
Hi John, Perfect timing for this video from my point of view as I'm about to start using the Alumilite I bought at MC. Nice looking blanks and I'm looking forward to the video when you turn one. Cheers, Huw
Thanks. The dye is a flat colour. It is translucent. (Except the white and black). Casters choice mica powder is a metallic pearlescent coloured powder.
I do have a idea for a blank though it may seem odd, how about a "Time Line" Blank which is when you have some dust that isn't gross or harmful swept up you put that in a cup and over time fill that cup with said dust. Once enough has been collected encase it in resin in a blank mold and ten turn it, basically a blank showing that every day something changes.
Thanks! That's a great idea. I've been doing something similar already. Every time I mix up some resin I usually make too much. I've put all the left overs in a pot which now looks like a rainbow on acid. I could turn that and do a video
@@JohnClothier Awesome my friend, truly all of that dust and extra resin shouldn't be let to waste. I look forward to seeing your next video and I am glad you got a small bit of inspiration from my idea. I always enjoy helping my peers no matter how small a contribution I do.
Those are awesome. Random question. Does any retailer you know of sell mechanical pencil kits. I found a place that sells 1. I was hoping for a better selection
They look really good John, will there be a pen making video from them ? BTW that's a neat little gadget you used to monitor the temperature. Great video John, Cheers, Bram.
Thanks Bram. The lathe is tied up with another project or I would have done one in this video. I may well make a pen and put it on Instagram / Facebook
Excellent video...... now Im a fan of the marble resin pens!!!!!

Pretty cool John.. I jumped when you flipped the cup over, I would have spilled that everywhere!! 😄😄
Thanks Jake. Lol I did! I cut most of that out the video lol
They came out brilliantly John, thanks for sharing your process mate.

You have just told me where I was going wrong.. I need more patience..
Thanks Graeme. Glad my video was of use
Great experiment John! They turned out awesome 😎
Thanks Zac!
I don't make pens--but I definitely liked the results of your mixing the 4 colors together
Thanks Douglas
Thanks, going to give this technique a try.
Cool

Thanks Paul. Yes I was happy with them. Absolutely, it seems to take for ever to thicken then all of a sudden it's too thick! Lol

Thanks Mark. Yep this will work just as well with bottle stoppers etc. Be good to see what you come up with

Nice looking blanks. What is the difference between the aluminite dyes and mica colours in practice.
Thanks

I find overnight is usually enough
EXCELLENT
Thanks Jim
Hi there!
Is there a specific reason you poured the resin into the mold so fast as opposed to slow and even? Thanks!
Hi. Not particularly, just trying different things

What is the powder used? Do we have to use that with the liquid pigment to get marble effect?
It is mice powder. Not needed but it does give added depth
Great result!!! What volume proportions did you ise between the colours? Definitely would try to repeat this experoment!!)
Thanks. I didn't measure it I'm afraid. Would love to see what you come up with
@@JohnClothier ok, then I'll try it empirrically) Hope to share my successful results with you one day, John!!

Thanks. I get all my pens from Taylor's mirfield. I've never looked at pencil kits. So sorry cant help
@@JohnClothier no worries man. I appreciate the reply.
@@stustudy2475 Turners Retreat for one. Stiles and Bates, another and Snaintons a third. There appear to be a limited choice of pencil kits available.
Looking good John. How 'chippy' was the bandsaw cut on them ?
Thanks. Not at all choppy. Went through fine.
Do you have to use a pressure pot for this to work?
no its not essential but you will get better results.
