I feel you there. I love the new style and it’s allowing me to be as creative as I’d like too. Weddings get repetitive and we don’t always have the luxury of filming at remote locations lol

Happy you found this method. This is similar to what I do for weddings, though I only do a few a year. But I tell my bride and grooms I am a documentary style filmmaker and I need to record the wholeeeeee day.
But yeah I typically mic up both sides early on. If I can’t, I’m recording room audio.
But also, I’ll get them to SAY or DO specific things if they’re not doing it already to support the story.
IE, in one wedding I had pulled them aside, alone, and had them off the cuff say something about the other partner. All I really needed was the audio. Approach it like any story: first act, second act middle, and third act wraps it up and completes it. 👏🏼👏🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼 cheers man!

Thanks so much for this! That’s so awesome to hear you film similarly. It makes a huge difference in the output and style of the weddings. The next video I do I think I’ll talk about my approach and how to use the sound bites. When I first started micing couples all day, I wasn’t able to figure out how or where these sound bites fell. Also, where and how to mic them all day so the photographers never got upset seeing a mic haha.

We call it Active interview in the Photojournalist world. We are trained to put people in their natural environment and then ask them double pump questions. Double pump are asking two questions as one. Exp...Who are you and why we're here? Because I have no experience shooting weddings, I had to rely on old school photojournalist storytelling style. The couple response was that it was like a PBS Doc.
Oh that’s dope. Definitely going to implement that. It’s always something I keep trying. Immediately after the ceremony asking the father of the bride of grandparents a question about the ceremony. Thanks for this!

Very interesting video, can you make a video on Audio setup and lab mics used on these video. The last clip of bride talking was super crisp and clean.
Thanks so much. I was actually debating on doing an audio bag breakdown. I’ll do it and also include some tips for what I use to mic the bride.

You´re extremely talented and the videos you put are really next level in everything from production, lighting, audio, content etc. I´d also love to see an audio breakdown of how you work with audio, which gear you use, how you record it, how you work with and sync all those huge long audio files from what I gather must be several various audio recorders since getting all those channels straight in to the camera is impossible, how you mic up the talents and also how you get such great audio if you´re not able to physically mic someone up etc. Keep up the great work and can´t wait for your next video.

With each camera person having multiple peoples mic’d to them, do you guys monitor the audio and listen for interesting things to capture? Or is it more you guys waiting and watching for things, then hitting record?
Half and half. Sometimes I’m paying attention but usually we just film when we see certain people having conversations lol
