I love how even though the song sounds menacing, the lyrics are all cheerful and positive.
From the residents of Halloween Town's perspective, this is a cheery Christmas carol.
Yeah, they’re genuinely trying, making things based on what they would enjoy, the problem is that they didn’t understand that most humans don’t generally like the same kind of things they do.
Now if it was just spooky themed (but harmless) gift wrapping and toys, along with a butt ton of Halloween candy in their stockings, then I imagine it would actually be fairy well received (if not slightly confusing).
Still wondering about where the candy aspect is in Halloween town though…

Funny that you asked, I actually have a cool fan fiction in my head that involves that: So you know how those bugs go in Santa’s beard in Oogie Boogie’s song? I have them take over Santa’s mind, and since apparently the voice for Oogie Boogie also voices Santa Claus, tells the elves and every one else that he will take a little vacation and that he’ll be back in a few days. This is just a thing so that they don’t check on Santa so that Lock Shock and Barrel can get him and make him Oogie Boogie again. They get all the bugs from Halloween Town, and sew a new burlap body for him, and then the elves report Santa missing. Jack hears about this and searches for them with the entire population of Halloween Town. Since they are too busy looking in every holiday, they are missing out in theirs, so the elves try (and fail) to make Halloween. Then Oogie Boogie somehow takes over the Halloween Town while they are doing stuff, they free Santa from Oogie, he becomes a big trash monster, and then they defeat them. This takes some inspiration from Oogie’s Revenge, by the way.
TLDR: Santa gets mind controlled from Oogie, Jack has to find where Santa is, the elves try to make Halloween and fail, they come back to try to search in Halloween Town, they find out that he took over, they free Santa, Oogie becomes a big monster, they defeat him, the end.

The really brilliant thing about this song is that it works just as well out of context as in. If you were to see this clip without seeing the rest of 'Nightmare', you'd see a bunch of ghouls getting ready to wreck Christmas, and it'd be all spooky, creepy fun - but in context, it's STILL that; you totally get that this is a looming disaster we're talking about here, but since you know the characters, you can see that they actually are making a good-faith effort; it's just that they're getting everything totally wrong. So context adds a lot to it, but it's not necessary to enjoy it - THAT'S good writing.

Just learned about the "Dies Ire", (Translation: "The Day of Wrath",) in a Music History class. "Making Christmas" has ties to it. Given the training/background of the composer, I am 100% certain that this is not a mere coincidence. (The song dates back over 1000 years...)
Yeah this is actually a very basic thing to do for trained composers (not saying Danny Elfman is basic far from it) , if you wanna learn more stuff about how composers do music for a film I can only recommend you the channel sideways

if you don't play this when ur making stuff in minecraft something went wrong
you know, this only failed because christmas town wasnt warned ahead of time. so much of this could have actually been successful had they 1, not kidnap santa claws and 2, tried to communicate more with christmas town.
i do hope both towns become just a little friendlier to each other. hell, i can actually see a friendship blossom between jack and santa, provide he gives him a chance. jacks not a bad guy at all. and maybe with some coercing santa might be okay with greenlighting a christmas-themed haunted house.
All of this could have been avoided if they just celebratef Christmas by their own in Halloween Town.
