if this is how police are cleaning the system, 3000 encounters in first few months make sense. But question remains if they got them all or did they just target enough to make the rest fall in line? I am inclined to believe the latter....
Just imagine if this person reaches the Court and due to his criminal persona no witness turns up and he goes free. This person committed his first murder allegedly back in 1992. It's been 28 yrs and nothing happened since. He's been roaming freely since then and I don't see that being any different had he been produced in Court. One less criminal now, that is the upside to this entire thing.

The economic boom of 90s n 2000s made crime redundant and provided those criminals an opportunity to graduate into white collar crimes. When you can make as much money legally, why indulge in crime? @@Raw_Vocals Hasn't that demand been there for years. Even Mayawati as CM demanded it. You can't efficiently run a state which by population is just below 4 or 5 most populated countries. The best administrated states in India are all below a 6 crore population figure.

@@sreekr Yes, it has been there for years. Infact, It goes right back to Dr. Ambedakar in 1955. He suggested division into three parts. Mayawati reframed that demand to divide into 4 states. SP opposed it. For administrative purposes, it makes sense to divide a state of 22 crore people, no doubt it. The question is who will benefit/lose the most politically- I would love to hear a detailed analysis on that.

Whats wrong in saying "thok denge" .You can see what has happened here for years because no one was "thoking" any one. Yogi ji has to right the wrong of parties before him.
Not by extra judicial killings. Police, especially UP police is rotten to the core with corruption. There was a sting operation where police offered to kill a person's rival in an encounter for money. They won't discriminate between criminals and commoners. People who are hailing this encounter would loose the right to question the next time an encounter is conducted even if it's an innocent who dies. Punishment is to be given by courts be it death penalty or life imprisonment.

An interesting concern for Mr. Shekhar Gupta and The Print :-
This was an amazing video where you highlighted the mafia culture of UP without fear of taking names (Which was very necessary). But in my experience, I usually see that as soon as news organisation become large enough where this kind of video will rock the political structure and force them to take action, the news organisations try to stay diplomatic or follow appeasement. Thus, media would not be able to make changes in the fundamentals of Corruption and Mafia.
Do think about it and if possible please be as you ( The Print) are right now whenever you become the top most viewed news organisation.

Correct observation...🙂 Caste can make people biased...esp ppl with 'secular' credentials.
It has a strong element of truth. Baniya's make up only 2% of UP population, and so them being involved in gang activity is less likely. They have usually allied themselves with the upper castes, but direct involvement in crime has been low. Also, lower poverty rate among them often deters crime anyways.
