WOW!!! Man, I've been doing these ALL wrong!! Neever dreamed about squeezing them in a vice, and I'm very impressed by the way it also makes pulling the solid pieces out so much easier! I like this video I didn't realize they were so simple to take apart I would just sell it as the whole thing instead of the individual parts put great video
Excellent video brother. I always remove the little copper pieces before I remove the copper coil when I use the squeeze method. Like the pry option for the bigger one. Better than just smashing with a hammer for sure

I have a pretty nice stockpile of them, can’t wait to try these tips out! I’m sure it will work great :) The machete electric motor trick And The hatchet transformer trick both worked very very well!!
Thanks on the tip on getting the roll out. Once out, if it's brittle plastic I just hit it with a hammer. It breaks up easy enough. If not I cut or tear the top off like you do.
Hey SIA! great video today i like this kind of microscrapping! and lok at all that amazing copper! really cool thing. have a good time till the next video, see u there!
Man, I've been using a hatchet and hammer to cut these in half, but next time I'll try just whacking the coil out with a hammer. Good technique! Thanks!
Someone once gave me an old candy vending machine for scrap (it was about 800 lbs.! No wonder it’s hard to tip them over!😅) and it had a whole bunch of these motors where they turn the coils that dispense the candy. That was a fun scrap out. In fact I had to partially dismantle it just to tip it into my truck🥵. I don’t use a vice, but I just set them on the ground and hit the thin part with a hammer claw and the part opens up to pop out the copper part. They add up quickly because they are simple to scrap.
Great video! I usually just angle cut a line and let the copper fall into my bucket but your vise pinch idea is much more clean and profitable. I’m trying it out tomorrow before my run, the scrap community appreciates you! Scrapper from Michigan!
When I take them apart, I will open up my vice and I will put the spoon between the jaws and hold it down and take a hammer and hit on top of the spool and knock it off that way. It’s a whole lot faster than it is clamping it in the vice. I have used my standard holes in my pick up truck and knocked out that way. I always take my end, snips and cut the sides of the spool off. as you already know, some comes off really easy, and some don’t. Then I just pull the wire off of the spool and wad it 8:03 up in a ball just like you did. Now the bigger size copper that you pulled out of the grooves, do you sell it for number one or number two. I sell mine for number one and I cut all the solder pieces off, or the brass pieces off, then you’ve got clean number one. You can take him old ten snips and have them sharpened, and they will cut just like brand new ones. I want to know when you take a hard drive apart. There is a green green round spoke looking wheel that has copper on it. I have seen it for hours unwinding those by hand. I want to know from you do you have a better way of getting it off ?
I just put it in my #2 copper, the yard is a bit picky. No, unfortunately I don’t know of a different way to remove the copper from them, I just sell them as small copper motors. Thank you for your comment and for watching!
Thanks for this video brother. Really like fan motors also , I just so it different. Like your systems for all of them. My yard calls the fan motor windings #2 copper. Is it the same for you? Thanks for sharing. Stay safe and blessed.😎😎🔥🔥⛏⛏
I have been doing these, but just kind of bumbling through them. Don't own a vice, yet. Usually, I try to smash them out of center. ...messy. Never knew how to get smaller copper from other end. Thanks for this video!
I’m thankful for my vise every day I scrap lol. It really does make things so much easier. I’m glad you found the video helpful. Have a wonderful day and rest of your week.
I didn’t say it was $4 a pound, not sure how you came up with that. That’s clean #2 copper. If I remember correctly it was around $3.15 a pound which was the average price in the USA at the time of making this.
I think you can sell that copper for crafts online for more, you have to keep it on the plastic, but take everything else off, people that do jewelry or wire wrapping would probably give you a 1$ for each, as long as the wire is not cut, that's 10bucks if you have 10 of them, already in a roll and not tangled or cut and still scrap the steel and cut and loose copper...
Oh, sorry, the crafters may pay more, it also depends on the size wire and they pay for shipping too, not sure if you would make more money because of the fees on certain websites like eBay, but maybe FB online or others ways to get it sold, just a thought.
Thank you for watching!
