It is so weird to see David Bianculli on-screen since I'm used to only hearing his voice on NPR's Fresh Air (Even more so thanks to the new Fresh Air Archive.)
Can anyone tell me why the best interviewer on television is now hosting a game show? Seriously anyone else trying to interview that author would have been dullsville.
There is no overt joke. They are just laughing at his matter-of-factly standing to the side of the frame and playing with objects on his desk rather than doing a more typical formal talk show open. He was known and appreciated for these varied and quirky cold opens.
