Thx 4 the extra tip on handling heavy boards. I am a 66 yr old woman just getting n2 woodworking. Damn this shit is heavy. LOL. Really appreciate a woman's perspective. Wish u were my neighbor so I could bug u 2 death with questions. :D
Figuring out how to do some of this by myself is half the project planning!!
Installing my new subfloor tomorrow and need to make many cuts ...thanks!!
This video really helped me. I was able to safely cut down a hollow core door. Thank you!
So glad to hear it!
Great idea cutting the foam insulation into separate sections! Thanks!
It came in those 2x2 squares, no cutting needed. But you sure could cut down a big sheet!
@@HeartwoodArt Thanks for the follow up - I stopped by the local home center and found the 2x2 squares and picked them up. Great tip! Thanks again!
i bought a circular saw 15 years ago ,only to make one wood sheet square, and i had to do it in the yard in very difficult way, then i wanted to give my electric saw for free cause i didnt have carpenter table ,no one wanted ..now after i seeing this video i will use the circular saw a lot
Wonderful solution!!! Thanks
Good for use with track saws too.thanks for your video
Awesome tips, MaAnna!!
Average But Inspired you’re welcome!!
Thank you!!!!
Thank you for this.
Hi, not sure if i'm missing it, but are those foam boards 1 or 2 inches thick?
What size circular saw are you using here? Looks like a great size!
It’s a 5-1/2” compact saw. It’s so much lighter and easier for me to use, which is mainly for ripping down plywood. It can cut a 2x4, but not a 4x4.
Can this be used for cutting other types of wood and with a jigsaw?
Jigsaw blade would go too deep and tip would get too hot.
Thanks for the video. One question, is it the same to use either EPS or XPS foam board? Both of them will work fine? Thanks in advance.
I don’t know. This was the only kind my big box store had. It’s stiff, but light as a feather
@@HeartwoodArt Thank you very much!
Does the material from these insulation boards spray when cut with a circular saw? And if so, what type of respirator is required to use them safely?
I’ve never seen any debris from the insulation. I wear a mask so I don’t breathe the sawdust from the plywood
@@HeartwoodArt Thank you! Yes, I saw on an information sheet for the material that is is not harmful although a mask is recommended. No idea which mask though. Hopefully not the same as the one for MDF, they're quite expensive.
Where can I get these? I can't find them anywhere to purchase. Thanks!
I got mine at Lowe's. I believe Home Depo has them too.
Is it like styrofoam board?
It’s just as light, but not flaky. I guess it’s fiberglass, just like other insulation
Also, what do you recommend to cut the insulation into sheets? I was thinking of bringing a box cutter with me when I buy it at Lowes because the entire sheet is not going to fit in my car
These came in the 2x2 squares you see.
@@HeartwoodArt ah I see. Where did you buy these sheets at, if you remember?
Home Depot or Lowes
A hand saw works really well. Like 15 inch standard saw. Also sawzall type power tool works fine if you can’t wait the 15 seconds with a hand saw. Ha.
Where did you by the foam
Big box hardware store. Have seen it online too
why doesn't anyone post the board info?
Because everyone has different suppliers. It’s just generic foam insulation board
Can anyone tell me what kind/type of foam the pad is? Insullation foam is not common in my country. Couldn't found any depo sell this. However, any foam material aren't hard to find here, but I need to know what kind of foam material use for this? Thanks.
This one is made of polystyrene, I believe. That’s made from plastic.
You would not want ones made of styrofoam or fiberglass.
Maybe do a Google search for what other materials might be used in the ones near you.
