The usa for Africa had real musicians with real talent

Steve Perry is amazing.
The Voice 🫶
1:29 That, sir, is the *legendary* Kenny Rogers. He is literally the voice of my childhood. He was my dad's favorite singer and I grew up listening to him. To this day I think Kenny Rogers is one of the greatest gifts my dad ever gave me. I wish I had told him that when I had the chance.
Absolutely ❤
And Kenny is standing beside the legendary Paul Simon. None of these can be overlooked. Their input has been extraordinary in every way.

Not Jeffrey Osborn, he's James Ingram.
yes sorry osborn was inthe chorus@@alberto-os1bx
Lindsay Buckingham from Fleetwood Mac is also in the choir
@@Transitcat Yesssssssssssss, thank you!!!! I mean, can one really call themselves an "80's King", if they've never heard of the legendary Lindsey Buckingham???!!! 🤔He was an integral part of the 80's, especially with hits like "Trouble" and "Holiday Road". And furthermore, who can miss his visibly sky high hair??? lol 😂🥰🥰💞💞
My favorite duo is Stevie Wonders and Bruce (The Boss) Springsteen
BRUUUUCE SPRINGSTEEEN!!!!
❤🎉😊
The 2 things that always get me about this song. 1 is the passion every person is singing with. And 2 the smiles on all the faces singing together

Hi this is all off wrong timestamps. For example when you click on Cyndi Lauper's time you get Diana Ross. Click on all of them!
@@SusieQ1971 The times are, I think, for the original video, not the reaction.
Well then you should either account for the intro time and add that in or not post it under this video but under the original? It does no good under this video since every time stamp is off by several minutes. No offense just weird to me.

There are a lot more to add to this list. Please, check their icon music out.
A room full of LEGENDS!!
The singer with the white hair and beard is Kenny Rogers. Two of his big hits were Lady (written by Lionel Richie) and The Gambler.
should react to the gambler
Cyndi Lauper!!!!!! ❤Iconic
Yes! Kenny Rogers , Bruce Springsteen with Stevie Wonder, Guy from office was Dan Ackroyd. Dylan is from Minnesota. Great reaction❤❤So much talent in one space. There’s a We are the world documentary on Netflix right now called The Greatest Night in Pop. It’s really good! Thanks again!❤❤
they just released a documentary about the making of this on netflix. they did this song in 1 night after an award show!!!!
Incredible!
The same night not the night after
@@toryprovenzano6787He didn't say the night after. Just that they did it in one night after the award show.
Oh I just watched the doc! So good!
Almost all was recorded the night of the Grammy’s but they brought a few singers back a day or so later to add some parts (Stevie’s last chorus, Jeffrey Osborne’s part at the end, and the GOAT Ray Charles) to bring the whole thing together.
You are a great reactor. Thanks for taking the time to post. It's been almost 40 years since this came out and it still makes me cry 😂 Love seeing Ray Charles in this video.
Appreciate the kind words!
Rest in peace
Waylon Jennings 1937-2002
Ray Charles 1930-2004
June Pointer 1953-2006
Michael Jackson 1958-2009
Louis Johnson 1955-2015
Prince 1958-2016
Al Jarreau 1940-2017
James Ingram 1952-2019
Kenny Rogers 1938-2020
Anita Pointer 1948-2022
Harry Belafonte 1927-2023
and Tina Turner 1939-2023
Pretty sure Prince was not in this.
They wanted him, of course, but it was the riff between him and MJ. He would've been a great addition.
"Is that the guy from 'The Office'?"
This video/recording was released in 1985. The U.S. version of "The Office" aired between 2005 and 2013.
The guy, by the way, was actor Dan Aykroyd ("Ghostbusters," "Trading Places," "The Blues Brothers"). He was at the studio for unrelated reasons and was approached to participate in the project. It was noted he represented the movie industry.
Dan Aykroyd part of The Blues Brothers has a couple of albums.
True, but the Blues Brothers was and still is an official band. Dan even won a Grammy for "Briefcase Full of Blues". So he's not just an actor pretending to be a musician.
The first singer, Lionel Richie along with MJ wrote this song and most performers were asked last moment to join at an awards show and they went to the studio and recorded it in the late night early morning hours without sleep
One reason this is superior is they were all together working thru the night after The American Music Awards. That's why Lionel gave thumbs up, this take was it. Poor Ray seen swaying in the front row with coffee cup wasn't up to it in his 70s. Quincy let him record his parts a few days later, and James Ingram too? They are both superimposed over the chorus. And nobody gives the Pointer Sisters some recognition. Their sound was a big part of the chorus. At the time most of the artists were legends in the industry. Sheila E was a new comer and obviously stoned out her mind (front row left of Ray Charles).
The gentleman with the white hair and beard is Kenny Rogers. I believe the studio where this was recorded belonged to him ( Lionshare Studio) If you research this song, the 21 soloists in this performance were selected for their distinctive sound so they would be easily recognizable. Quincy Jones' production guy, listened to the songs by the soloists and decided what lines would be appropriate for their vocals. BTW there are tons of You Tube videos which will tell you what soloist is singing.
Yeah. Nothing beats original. Great reaction 😇
For me it is 39 years ago when i heard this song and now i am in my 50, its is a beautiful song, a song off hope and peace, but to be honest my heart is crying to see NOTHING had change in a positive way, childeren are still dying in many countries around the globe.
BE AWARE OF THIS..........
THE WORLD START WITH US
The unfortunate truth
Kenny Rogers is the white bearded man..country legend every single person in this are all Legends...
A lot of amazing singers and the most beautifull musical production. Thank for your reaction 👍💯
Once you discover how may legends you have listened to you should go back and rewatch this and be really blown away! Also, there is a "Do They Know It's Christmastime" that was made around the same time that feature a ton of British superstars.
The 80s were the greatest time to be alive! These artists were all superstars who made this a classic hit that will be around for generations and served a beautiful purpose! This song also shares these beautiful artists with the world all at one time! For all time! It's also amazing to see younger generations watch and appreciate this song as we did back when it was first released! For the artistry and for its purpose! The beauty of it will live on!❤
The two artists from 3:05 is country singer Willie Nelson and Dionne Warwick who by the way is the Older Cousin of Singer Whitney Houston with their mothers being sisters 🙂 just a fun fact if you didn't know
Do you know how many albums have been sold in this studio , millions and millions .Thank you for remembering me this beautyful time
Kind of relieved you know Tina! I am surprised how many people just don't recognize Paul Simon. But that's the perspective of a European.
I am amazed, though how many don't recognize Bruce Springsteen!
Sorry, you are not the first reactor to this that YT suggests to me. And I have loved most of them! And now I'm perhaps unjustly giving a summary to your channel.
Thanks for giving Bob Dylan a real commentary!
What will remain forever of this song is the duet nobody knew would be amazing: Bruce and Stevie!
Al Jarraau and James Ingram are probably the two least known in this lineup, but were still great singers. Each were popular 70's and 80's jazz singers that crossed over into the Pop world at that point with the "Adult Contemporary" genre that floated around for a while. Kim Carnes is another, who only really had 1 hit in her career, but was a major one at the time called "Betty Davis Eyes".
Not knowing who Bruce "The Boss" Spriongsteen is though....!?! There are several major titles you can check out:
Born in the USA (Not as blue-blooded patriotic as its name implies)
Dancing in the Dark
Born To Run
Glory Days
Thunder Road
You won't ever be disappointed by anything Bruce did!
James Ingram was not a jazz singer. He was definitely R&B. If you like R&B, he was/is well known. He's easily in my Top 5 all-time favorite R&B singers. He's sadly gone, like many of the others in this video; but they left behind some really great music.
Matt, I'm now catching this. I am so proud of your reaction! To say this is legendary is an understatement! Classic! Timeless! People 100 years from will be saying the same thing! I appreciate your reaction! Ya did good!!! ❤❤❤
Almost half of those artists have passed away unfortunately. This song was made about 40 years ago.
Bruce Springsteen ... how can people not know "the Boss" in the usa ???? he is a icon of the usa to Europe ...
I liked ur reaction!!!!
La mejor canción del mundo....gracias a michael❤..ahora me quedo con Bruce y Cindy😜
Netflix just released a documentary on the song, The Greatest Night in Pop, refencing that they recorded this in one night.
Loved that u gave props to Cyndi Lauper and the rest of the other all stars.
The gruff voicedman, Bruce Springsteen ❤
There is an hour+ video that shows how it happened. It was after a music award show in Los Angeles, Capital recordsz room 1 with a sign "NO EGGO" This song was more important than any single persons career.
Unfortunately that is why Prince did not participate. Legends are in this 1 song.
Bruce Springsteen and Stevie Wonder. The duet we didn't know we needed! 🥰
Man with white/Gray hair IS Kenny Rogers Lionel Richies best friend RIP Kenny
This was a golden era, for sure. So many great artists, and very accessible. I have seen 9 of these artists live in concert, all when they were at the peak of their careers.
So many legends ❤❤❤ my fave Kenny Rogers and Michael Jackson ❤❤❤
Songs to check out from the artists in We Are The World:
Journey (Steve Perry): Faithfully
Simon & Garfunkel: Bridge Over Troubled Water or The Boxer
Fleetwood Mac (Lindsey Buckingham): Silver Springs (live from 1997)
Kenny Rogers: The Gambler
The Supremes (Diana Ross): You Can't Hurry Love

You can't go wrong with anyone in this song. The catalog of songs, the diversity of musical genres and just sheer musical talent are second to none. You won't regret diving into these rabbit holes.
Great channel!
@4:37 when that trio delivers! Watched it then and still love it now. Look after each other
Bob Dylan is American. He has recorded with a southern affectation in some early songs due to infatuation with his idol Woody Guthrie, who was from Oklahoma.
The singer paired up with Stevie is Bruce Springsteen, check him out.
You might also like the video " Tears are not Enough." Canadian musical stars of the era raising awareness for the same cause.
So much talent gathered in one room! The first one you asked about is Kenny Rogers, and the second one is Bruce Springsteen.
Greetings from Portugal 🇵🇹
Amazing Artists
That man (singing with Stevie) is Bruce Springsteen. Still touring and recording at nearly 75
White haired man is Kenny Rogers ❤❤
It's The Boss with Stevie.. Bruce Springsteen. The talent in that room that night.. absolutely phenomenal.. brings chills.. What's so sad to me.. we've lost many of them..Need to keep good music alive. and these artists.. amazing in their own right, came together for this and made such an impact. give Quincy his props for getting it all together and MJ for writing it along with someone I don't know.. but it was music royalty that came together that night... apparently after the Grammy's..
Great reaction!! So many great singers in this video\song🎶💖
Something I like about watching this original version is just how many of them I didn't know the first time I watched it, back in 2009 when Michael Jackson died and my mom told me about this song, which I didn't know, and then I knew Stevie, Lionel, Michael, Tina, Ray Charles, and Cyndi, and that was basically it. I watched the 2010 remake and I only knew the Jonas Brothers, Justin Bieber, Miley, and Celine 😂 but throughout the years, as I discovered more artists and listened to more and more incredible music, watching both versions slowly became an interesting experience aside from the songs themselves, but also because I know most of the faces in each video now. It's sort of like a testament to the evolution of my musical taste, and I really enjoy it from that perspective as well
That top tier voice is Bruce Springsteen “The Boss” . If you want to check out his iconic sound, this is the best video to react too: Bruce Springsteen - Born to Run (Official Video). Loved your reaction!!!
No auto tune back then
Dear Matt
I love this video. Thank you for reacting to it.
The guy that you asked about is country singer
Kenny Roger's.
He is a country singer and actor.
His most famous song is
The gambler. Ok.
I'll talk to you later.
I just found your channel with this video. I think you did a great job. I remember in 1986 waiting gor the debut of this video on MTV. I knew most of the artists. The sad part is some are no longer with us.
Great job mate.
I read that that famous people were told yo check their egos at the door which they did very well. Always proud of this video but it still brings tears to my eyes.
You are so right about the comparison! Thanks!
If you watch the documentary about how this came together you will appreciate,as I did, the vocal arranger who plotted which voice was right for each solo. Of course Quincy Jones was the maestro and he knew this was the right guy for the task.
There is a documentary on Netflix about this called "the greatest night in pop" fascinating watch.
The 1st guy you wanted to know. Was Kenny Roger's, 2nd was Bruce Springsteen aka The Boss
Bob Dylan was born in northern Minnesota, made in the USA. :)
Who knew we needed a Stevie Wonder/Bruce Springsteen duet

Why are you screaming?
My daughter is your age and she thought that was Dwight Schrute, from The Office, as well. 😂
We all wanted a Stevie/Bruce tour after this
And speaking of Bob Dylan, I don't know where he's from, but from what I've read about this whole set up, with all of these superstars, in their own right, the person they were all most excited to see and meet was Bob Dylan. Also, everyone showed up in limos and fancy cars, but Bruce Springsteen drove up in a pickup truck. He was so down to earth. I was never a huge fan, but something about that just made me feel differently about him. Also, Quincy Jones had a note on the door telling everyone one to leave their egos at the door. Just a bit of trivia.😊
geniuses sequencing of singers!
The white beard guy is Kenny Rogers, please check out his first live performance of 'Lady', very charismatic! Hope you will enjoy it! I also suggest the powerful 'Planet Texas', one of my favorite songs of his.

Check out the documentary of the making of this video. It’s awesome
They had a sign at the door to the studio, I'm pretty sure Quincy Jones was responsible for it. The sign said "Leave your egos at the door" and that's what they did.
Bob Dylan is American. Singing with Stevie Wonder is Bruce Springstein
The guy singing with Stevie Wonder is Bruce Springsteen. Check him out! “Born to Run” would be a good start.
The guy singing with Stevey Wonder is Bruce Springsteen.
What makes this so great is they are all music legends and they all wanted to do this and left their egos at the door .
Bob Dylan was born in Minnesota.
Bob Dylan is from Minnesota. It's a pretty unique accent yea
For duo's that are freaky but glorious, Paul macartny and Michael Jackson, say say say. You'll love it with the music clip

Some of the vast amount of songs in his catalog. Please do react to him.
Have to listen to Bruce Springsteen’s Born To Run official video. He was the biggest star after Michael Jackson at this time! All timer!!
