Stunning. i can see the big value of solent rigging. The self tack isn’t my favourite because you lose the ability to trim on cars, but it is probably easier to use. The reacher is awesome for reaching and downwind, you can wing and wing with both stays (less rolling, zero accidental jibe and less worries on a passage). Love this yacht! Congrats to the owners.
I am assuming the Quantum Sails are using HydraNet (designed and manufactured in Germany) materials in a Tri-Radial construction. Non-stretch, lighter weight with the ability to hold its shape until the end of its life. Pretty compelling. Also, it is supposedly less prone to mold and mildew. Win. They look great as does this beautiful 439. Cut the lines and sail away… she looks more than up to it! Leaving shortly to sail from Shetlands into the Arctic Circle to a final destination, 70 degrees N, Norway. I would take this boat all day long! Love the removable staysail stay! Awesome setup!
I see a lot of newer boats come with a solent rig as opposed the a cutter rig. I know why I like the solent rig better but maybe you can explain why you decided to put it on this boat.
Never mind. I believe you answered my question. You get a larger inner head sail because it is a couple of feet further forward, as well as having the center of pull further forward on the bow. This allows you to get a little more speed out of the boat in lighter winds.
Looks like a great boat, for my perspective though the dodger has no side panels, so you can’t get out of the wind behind the dodger side panels, thats uncomfortable on a cold day.
Fair perspective! Although it seems to do a pretty good job so far on the trips I have been able to take out and video. It may not 100% block the wind, but it does serious negate it in the cockpit/helm area. All of our trips have been in fair weather, under friendly Florida blue skies, though!
What a beautiful boat on a picturesque day. Thank you for documenting your sail with the thoughtful crew. Howard
Is the older guy the builder? I've seen him in several videos. Cool guy. Really nice with so much expertise.
Another great video. Thanks for the explanation on the Dacron vs Quantum sails; very informative
Glad you enjoyed it
