The problem is, the FIRST number they provide is the one everyone takes and runs with. It's like having a full page headline that's totally wrong, and the next day they post a retraction on page h42 on the bottom left corner.
I can't wait for this interpretation to become a little bit more mainstream. I think a lot of people are sick of being mislead and tired of not having an obvious rebuttal to those GVA numbers and the articles/reports that they spawn. Thanks once again for making and perfecting this evaluation of the true violence related problems in our country. Now we have something concrete to point to when people bring up the GVA and the misleading numbers that they use.
I think the threshold will be lowered from to something like as we get closer to the election in order to show that sleepy j....eh doctor jill needs to stay in office.

Important pieces of data that are missing are the firearms status (legally possessed or illegally possessed; unidentified firearm - serial number missing or illegible). This could cleanly the argument as to the proportional usage of illegal versus legally obtained firearms involved in each category of gun violence. Having that info could make it clearer that the government is disproportionately focusing on law abiding citizens instead of criminals who are responsible for a majority of gun violence.

I'm not sure whether it's still being counted in with "gun "deaths, but they seem to want to put suicide in their statistics as well. Those shouldn't be lumped in with criminal acts either.

Good job Paul. You spoke on the rampage shooting that was close to home for me but like you said nobody talked about it. It was mentioned it in the news paper then nobody talked about it again
Another reason for February having fewer shootings is having only 28 days in the month--and 29 day this year. January and March have 31 days each, three more days than February possibly an entire extra weekend. Remember the 'stupid times" in "don''t go to stupid places at stupid times and do stupid things with stupid people" because weekends are the stupid times. Temperature is a factor, but the dip between January and March could be due to three fewer days (four fewer this year).

About 50k people were killed in Adams County, PA between July 1 through the 3rd. Tragic. That'll never make the news though since it doesn't fit their "agenda".

Fordyce, Ark has less than 4000 people but it has been really hot. Stores like that often supply more people who live out in the country. I don't live there but have visited there in my lifetime in Ark of 72 years. Our confrontational shootings are usually in Little Rock and Pine Bluff as that's where most of the gangs are. Arkansas is a Constitutional Carry State so I'm not sure why the folks in Fordyce didn't return fire. Some areas a still slow to arm for self-defense.
Could you start your own database, by downloading all their firearm data and then add all the other weapon types that show up in the media, and then divide it into your categories, and then call it Violence Archive.

It's very true that rampage killers are often "on somebody's RADAR," as our host puts it. Unfortunately, in many cases, people in the circles of these people either lack the will to make judgements and act upon them, or are fearful of the consequences of speaking out, usually because of identarian concerns. The Virginia Tech massacre is a great example of the former (the killer's English teacher, Nikki Giovanni, commented, after the fact, that the killer's writings were very disturbing, including very violent psychosexual content), and the Fort Hood and Pulse shootings are prime examples of the latter, where both shooters were members of the RoP.
