    Twiist is a newly FDA cleared pump that will automate insulin delivery using Tidepool Loop. I spoke with Tidepool's CES Howard Look about Tidepool Loop, an FDA cleared automated insulin delivery app and algorithm built from the popularly used DIY Loop.

    Medtronic deciding to stop T1Ds from using this software on their pumps means that I will never use their pump ever again
    Blocking better control with loop means they are reducing our quality of life and our ability to live longer
    It shows what they truly value

    This is 🔥🔥🔥🔥. Justin thanks for making this video. Everyone is talking about this pump and tidepool. It would be interesting to hear a story from Twiist how their pump is different from other pumps on the market, prescriptions, commercial release date, customer support, etc. This is huge 🎉🎉🎉

    I am new to the DIY loop or the Iaps you talked about. How can I find out how to do this? Create the app and use it? I use omnipod. Do you have a video about this or now where I can find out how to do this? Thanks, and keep up the great videos.

    Thank you for sharing this interview again. I.had not seen it yet. I.agree it is relevant with the recent announcement of the new pump using tidepool. I am still wearing medtronic 523 for over 10 years and use libre 2. I will be looking for a new pump and am excited about the possibilities.

    This is awesome. Great stuff coming down for T1. I really believe that we should really get the cure. I was going to be part of a group that is already out there for curing type 1 but the cure is specific to a certain blood type which they would not share and because I’m O+ I didn’t make the cut but if what they told me they have someone who is almost 2 years in diabetic free.

      Not to be a downer but the chase for a cure for T1D has been out on the back burner for a few decades now. The push is for t2d as it impacts much more people. Also the idea of a pancreas transplant is not good either as you have to be put on antirejection medications that literally shuts your immune system down. It's like having AIDS without having the virus. The best thing we can hope for and I think this will be the future is either a implantable pump that doesn't have an effect on the immune system or a full loop system which also includes the ability to raise your sugar if you go hypo.

    I am very interested with type 2 pumps. I started with Libre 2 and moved to Libre 3. I would love to see pump for type 2. It has helped me to monitor my a1c.

    I would like to know if the TWIIST is a fully stand alone system like the Tandem X2. Can the TWIIST operate without access to my phone or Receiver?

    • @dinnerandamurder
      @dinnerandamurder 2 місяці тому

      The interview I saw said yes, at least temporarily. The software is on board for that reason. So if the phone dies or goes out of range, it still functions. It has a bonus button on it too. But I’m sure you still require an iphone for use overall.

    This pump you were talking about. Thank you for the information I’m 64 been a diabetic since 1972 Closed Loop System we will still have to con corps. Is that correct? And do you think these new AI will put an end to carb counting I really hope so carb cutting getting very old.

    • @diabe_tech
      @diabe_tech  3 місяці тому

      Will still need to count carbs, yes. I think that the algorithms will get better and remove the need to count carbs. I give it under 5 years.

    It is so refreshing, Tidepool, that you are open to all devices but you are not open to all smartphones. You have been brainwashed by an OS that is only used my 30% of the world's population. Anything you develope that is Apple only, I can never use. Why? Because I love freedom. I refuse to patronize a system that thinks THEY alone are the only way. I love your app and have even figure a way to use it with a 780G Medtronic pump via another app. So get with the majority. Everything you develop needs be for every smartphone OS. P.S. Android does not target people on public assistance, it's people who love the free market system and want to also be able to choose their brand of phone. You know like Windows, how many brands of computer and laptop are there??? FREEDOM.

      I thought it was a good video. Letting us know about what is coming. It might take 6 months, 12 months, 18 months, 24 months before we see anything tangible. But eventually it will be here. Heck, I heard Tandem was going to make its G7 readings go direct to a smartwatch two years ago. And it might really happen 6 months from now. Progress. Of course its Apple watch only, not the much more prevalent and cheaper Android watch. I'm hopeful this Tidepool app working directly with a commercial automated pump will improve control greatly. And maybe if drug companies enhance the absorption of insulin by the body, we will be able to maintain 99% in range blood sugars. And add glucagon to pumps too.

  • @Persason

    So basically tidepool loop lost all of its pump partnets setting them back. It seems like it will be years before this project bears fruit.

    • @dinnerandamurder
      @dinnerandamurder 2 місяці тому +1

      Nope. The last half of the year will see a new pump with tidepool releases called the twiist pump. I’m really excited about it too. You can see Diabetech’s great video on it!

    I’m curious how Tidepool handles those who forget to input their meal carbs. My adult son is so attention ADD and forgetful so that’s a big deal. He’s on the Tandem, but dislikes the fact that it drags insulin delivery out 5 hours despite his normal delivery acting time being closer to 3 hours. The emojis would fix that.
