At first I was like, "Who doesn't like the Mummy?" Then I realized this was the Tom Cruise one, and I remembered that it existed again, and got sad. But let's see if the gang can find something good about it.
Oh my God same thing!!!! It's 7am, been up since 5am but my eyeballs didn't fully adjust when I threw on the laptop. I saw "The Mummy" and my brain went into "How DARE they put The Mummy in the Deep Dive box! It's pure gold and Brandon Fraser is perfection in it! ALL the casting is perfection in this!" Then I realized there was the year... "Oh, the Tom Cruise thing... proceed." LMFAO
You guys know you’re gonna have to do an episode on Cats at some point right, I both need to see your reactions and am scared of seeing any part of that film.
I think Cats is actually perfect for Deep Dive once a few years pass! It’s wild and it’s a lot, but there’s a lot left to love if you come in with reasonable expectations.
that "rest in pete" moment was extra great cause like.... accidental mummys found in peat bogs are a thing and i dont know if that was intentional but either way I am very pleased.
Me: Having a rough day This: Exists Me: Having a good day dumb meme-ing aside, yayyyy. I actually really enjoy this movie. It's -bad-, for sure. But I love it
To what could have been.. RIP Dark Universe.. you were too dark for this world 👌😢 Also this made me so goddamn happy to watch. Thank you all,as always. can't wait for the next diiiiive 😘🌟
I remember really liking the Ahmanet bits and wishing for the movie to be more about her than about Tom Cruise. I was entirely disineterested in Nick as a vessel for a death god at the end, but had Ahmanet turned out to be a creepy anti-hero who can be reasoned with, I would've been hyped for the Dark Universe. (With Dracula Untold in it as well, 'cause Luke Evans and Charles Dance were great in it.)
Total agree with both points. I would have loved a mummy movie set in a "Dark Universe" center on the, ya know, mummy. Especially with how talented this actress was in the role. It really should have been her movie. Dracula Untold is so underrated.
Here’s my pitch: MONSTER SQUAD: DARK UNIVERSE Either reboot the Monster Squad or have the original cast re-unite and have them fight the Dark Universe incarnations of the monsters.
You know what? I love that I found this channel. So many videos I still have to watch, like this one. But hey, by now you might have noticed I'm planning to see a lot of them the coming days. So if you see a response to a video from years ago again: that may well be me. Just a little [sad catawumpus] that I didn't respond earlier at times. Oh well. Hopefully more Deep Dive this year. Somehow.
In regards to the comment about naming a character “Hero Protagonist”, Snow Crash by Neal Stephenson did exactly that and actually managed to make it work
Dear MIkey, and everyone else at FilmJoy, holy crap you guys are awesome, please keep making this stuff. I would totally donate if I had any money at all.
Hey guys! I just wanted to say that I'm so thankful that you keep making these Deep Dives. I love the positivity you bring, despite what we put you through haha thanks gang!
@@robertwild9447 I wouldn't say I was upset about it. It was just one of those things that made me go, "oh. Hey. I know where I've seen this before. Huh. I wish more horror comedies did this."
@@evar.7093 Oh that's totally fair. I just think that subplot worked really well in American Werewolf in London, and seemed out of place to me in The Mummy.
I saw this and thought to myself "Wait, Jake Johnson plays another Nick?" I know actors generally don't want to be type cast, but yeah- I look at him and just go "Nick Millerrrr!", though he was tied as the best part of Into the Spiderverse for me, he was still very Nick Miller-esque in his performance.
I think that this movie suffered from hype poisoning because the attempt at a shared universe was so blatant and overt (even though, yes they tried to do a soft launch with the Dracula movie no one saw) and people had already decided that they were not buying into a universe for the sake of it. The lesson should have been that consistent good movies will get people to stick with a shared continuity, but all the studios read it as "shared universes makes for ticket sales." Lukewarm take, I know, but still.
When talking about dead prime Nick it's weird they don't mention Jack from An American Werewolf in London which to me sounds like the obvious inspiration to that character.
I'm a Star Trek fan, so The Algorithm recommend the Star Trek Movies with Mikey this morning. Intrigued, I watched both and do hope you get the second wind to dive into TNG. This video was simply up-next. I enjoyed the first 5 mins, so I rented The Mummy on Amazon and watched, to rejoin you after. I wholeheartedly agree. I was surprised how much I liked it. It was SO much more than I was expecting and had such potential for a future universe, that I was glad to see you were as upset as I am that there won't be a follow-up film, or new movie universe. Thanks for a fun evening in this pandemic. Liked and Subscribed.
Nick and Nick's Infinite Playlist was so funny! This movie was wild, loved your commentary oh so much. Oh my gosh Queen of the Damned is a favorite so if y'all covered it that would be dopee
19:10 All I can think of at this moment is that scene in the cold open of Ghostbusters where they’ve found the ghost and none of them know what to do next. Peter’s like “Can you come over here for a second, please? Just over here for a second, please? Right over here. Come here, Francine!” That scene.
I’m so happy other people liked this movie. Like more than 10. Thank you, y’all, for letting people know it’s ok to like movies the internet (and more importantly: the box office returns) says you’re not supposed to like.
I've recently watched Shin Godzilla, and found it fantastic. It would be interesting to see a Movies with Mikey take on how it differs from American versions.
Wonderful video! I’m always hyped for new Deep Dive! Great movie choice too, but I’m surprised no one mentioned that Sgt Vail’s (Good Nick)character is actually a reference to the film An American Werewolf in London! This movie is full of awesome references, it’s definitely not as bad as everyone said it was.
They built a tiny set on the airplane that does the ‘zero g’ passenger flights (the name is not coming to me at the moment). Tom Cruise is a strange guy, but as Mikey has pointed out, damn that man can run!! Edit: LOL I wrote this before getting to the part of the video where you guys talked about running Tom.
I'm thinking these guys are exposed to group viewing syndrome, I liked Ghost Rider cause I saw it with friends, watched it alone, it was barely a movie.
28:03 or give him the initials JC, dude's gonna end up dying to save others or endure some sort of savior sacrifice. "Mort" (Nick Morton, Tom Cruise's character) in Latin literally means "Death" (Mortal, Mortician, rigor mortis) So 10/10 for character naming like *Chris (
Usually I can understand where you guys are coming from. But I feel like you watched an entirely different movie than I did. I couldn't stand one single second of this film.

I also thought this was gonna be the Mummy I know and love. But I was pleasantly surprised! So thanks guys, I'm gonna watch this with friends high as a kite hahaha
The background music during the end of your vid caused unintended laughter because it's the same music in a romantic mobile game I'm playing... But yeah I think I'll go watch this movie now.
Oh man I hope you watch Coyote Ugly. I watched it once when I had a sleepover birthday (at an age which was probably VERY inappropriate to watch it at) so this would be a proper throwback!!
I see it, except that Ahmonet's backstory doesn't work... and I am not sure how the Lesbian Monster movie would have been received. Swapping Nick and Halls characters though that would make a lot of sense.
Though the female Mummy is refreshing, I like how she looks cool and the whole thing feels "sexy", you know. You could have had that with a male mummy (wait, that would have been nice, an undead sexy guy in wraps!), I just like how Sofia Boutella handled it
Thanks, guys! I had no desire to see this movie, but I'll watch you guys watch this movie. "Birdered?" Love it. "Ghost Bros?" There's a television show I want to watch! Also, Mikey's X-Men Christmas sweater is awesome. Must find.
American Werewolf in London did the ghost buddy thing the same way, and way better. Better you guys than me on this one; I couldn't have done it. Thanks for taking one for all of us.

Ok, so I definitely want Blythe to show up more, but also Elisa can’t go anywhere. Make this happen.
Hmm... Maybe bring back all the guest hosts for a one-off episode sometime?
Same here!
At least they had the decency to pick Set over Anubis, even though they got his domain wrong.

Please keep Blythe, she's so sweet and genuine and cute. I almost swooned.
I want a Queen of the Damned episode so badly...
There's no way that's not the pick. I refuse to believe I am that disconnected from the patreon community that I can't accurately predict this result.
