Harry Styles was never on my radar, not him, his music, his relationships, none of it, so I wouldn't have spotted similarities between Hayes and Harry. I was there for Nick and Anne. 🥰

I enjoyed the book up until the last page, which devastated me (there's no emoji strong enough), so can't agree on not liking the film's ending. Loved it. 😍They both agreed to postpone their happiness for Izzy's sake.
My tears after the film were from too much emotion, rather than the tears of devastation and fury like from the book.

You are so much kinder than I am. I’m honestly getting an ick factor from the marketing that makes it very hard for me to go and see this plotline even though I like both Nick and Annie as actors and humans. Flack&Styles situation was just wrong. I’m not talking about any potential interaction between them. I mean the PR part of it, which either fabricated the whole thing or took advantage of the existing relationship to make it public in order to market the youngest member of the band as a sex object when he was clearly still going through puberty. Nobody looking at Harry during those first few 1D years saw a grown adult regardless of age for sexual consent in UK. To then take that sordid PR stunt, and now rehash it in a promo about female empowerment is fucking asinine. Honestly, that was one of the worst parts of 1D fame, so why lean into it for a movie that stands alone without it? I also take issue with 40+ being somehow old whether people look like a hot Hollywood star or like regular forty. Forty is not old by a mile. And any jabs at fandom turn me off. I’m not too into the I-don’t-know-who-you-are-and-that’s-why-I’m-special trope. If it’s not Tired, Tired Sea, but with a scene where the alcoholic pop star apologizes for emotional diarrhea without a forwarding address, and all likenesses are erased, I don’t want fanfic movies. Not this one, and not the After series. C’mon, Annie’s is the Queen of Genovia by now; give us that movie!
THANK YOU!! I feel like I'm the only one saying this in the middle of a crowd cheering for this awful story. But I'm glad I'm not the only one. It's so weird to me how when someone ships the boys together people jump at shippers' throat immediately (justifily so) and now when Harry is being exploited in such a disgusting way they are MUTE
@@FaiaHalo I mean, this film changes the plotline to kosher. The two characters are both grown adults in the film. I’m just not understanding why the advertisers leaned in so very heavy into rehashing teenager with a grown adult actual news story as their marketing strategy as if both actors are not yummy and marketable on their own without a nod to the original events which inspired the author. Or when Annie’s character is entitled to just have the story focus on her owning her own desires as an adult woman. It reeks of misogyny, of not trusting that Anne Hathaway can sell a movie to a predominantly female audience about their own passions. There were professional people in meeting rooms making decisions and this is the shit advertising campaign they settled on?

I kind of feel like people are vastly overestimating the HS comparisons. The author stated from the beginning that she drew inspiration from a lot of different people including her own husband. Anne and nick have also repeatedly stated that. What I’ve noticed is a lot of articles and interviews that insist on making that comparison for clicks. I think people have latched onto the HS/1D thing bc they’re one of the most recent western boybands people can remember and were really popular. But in the movie you can see the similarities to older groups as well. People forget that these pop bands are extremely formulaic by design and if the movie is trying to sell this fictional band as super successful, then they have to follow that formula too to make it believable.
Exactly right. It's not the filmmaker that marketed it as Harry it was articles written about it from journalists
Listen I appreciate it completely being myself two years divorced in a similar story to Ann's character with kids of my own. Except I was a decade older than her character and we are not done. Women at are age still have that life with the same feelings and still have men drawn to us.... wild belief people have we are supposed to garden and read and have cats for the rest of our lives and our sexiness is over and that part of our life is over. Cheers to this whole thing because it shows us as who we are. Wildly deserving of our own life and sexuality and guess what younger men are often drawn to us. That being said I have kids older than his character and I can't see that for myslef but I have zero judgment of anyone who does.
Saw it last week and really liked it. Better than Anyone But You.
Then again, I always loved Anne Hathaway since Princess Diaries and Nicholas is a good actor(loved him in purple hearts).

Hi! It’s mainly just time - I work full time, have two young kids and make a lot of content. The Grey’s reactions took so much time to record and edit! I really do want to get back into it but I am struggling to fit everything into my life! 💜

I loved 1D's music when they're still together, but not into any of them because I was way into this J-pop boyband but their songs were (are) incredibly catchy for me. So yeah, I really can't say anything about this TIOY Harry Styles' fanfiction thing. I only watched TIOY and excited about it because I fell in love with Nick's character in RWRB (henry, my sweet darling) and eventually fell in love with Nick too so I'm gonna follow him (as in watching every of his project, not literally, jeez) anywhere. Anyway, I really need to say this to Harry's fans who are offended or mad because of TIOY; guys, maybe don't take it out to the actors or directors etc. Maybe just trust them when they say that they just want to tell a story, a love story of 40 y.o woman that is so often neglected by Hollywood. We often see romcom or any romance movie with 20 something y.o lead and nobody tell a story about middle-aged woman. I also think that it's also Anne's way to say fuck you to people that she could only be casted as a mom in movies.
In the book Hayes is 20 and turns 21 as the story unravels, Sol is 39 and celebrates 40 with him. The daughter is 12 in the beginning of the book.
Curious if you’re planning to read the book? I loved the book and was able to also see the movie as its own work and enjoy it too.

I was firmly set on not watching it after the marketing campaign, now I feel more split but I think I'll still pass, just because I'd prefer to not encourage moves that try to monetize rpf and build their campaigns on similarities to real people
I think is totally fair enough! Part of the reason I wanted to make this is because I know people are undecided, and I hoped this would give a balanced overview to people who aren’t going to watch it.
The problem for me , if this is based on Harry Styles, is that it is creating a movie about a false narrative. To this day Harry’s assigned “persona” is that of a womanizer, a young man who likes older women, and with ow, a home wrecker. Anyone who is paying attention knows that all of that is untrue. I wonder what this is like for him.
@@dancashio And I'm glad you did :) I'm looking forward to the discourse around it as there are a lot of topics related to this that I find interesting - rpf (I read it and yet I still don't have my opinion on what's okay and what's not and why as down as I'd like to), where is the line between inspiration and exploiting someone's personal life, how we allow the sexualization and fetishization of celebrities and how somehow it's more okay if they are men, how big corporations enter into fanspaces and find more ways to profit off of us (or maybe it just seems more excessive and it was always like that?)
@@susanbrown3715 yeah, I think what always gets me is that it literally started right off on xfactor when he was a boy and it was perfectly okay for grown people to speculate about his sex life and comment on it to his face - it's really terrible. And I can't imagine how it must have been for him and how he's dealt with everything else since
Dont love you said he was with Caroline Flack as if that is fact. But love you and your review makes me feel a lot better about the film.
He literally was... He was groomed because he was a minor.
@@FaiaHalo They were never actually a couple, she was his first beard. They needed to push the narrative that not only was he into women but he liked them much older. Can’t have a boyband member not attracted to women.
Did you know Nick did the singing in the movie? I'm looking forward to seeing the movie. I read the book. Originally, I thought if it was supposed to be "Harry Styles" they needed a better-looking actor. But, since then, I've watched "Red, White, and Royal Blue" so many times that I can accept Nick as this character. Nick wears an earring if we go by that it would be Niall.
Nick is worlds more attractive than Harry lol.
This movie makes it known that older women are hot and are allowed to have a life outside of family. Anne is STUNNING
I recently watched Anyone But You, which was the same thing the promo was terrible the actual movie was smart and funny!

You really need to update your pic on here. I didn’t recognise you! Interesting about the movie. I’m probably the target demographic (divorced 40something), but it still doesn’t really appeal - maybe because I did my own self discovery journey and it came more to the conclusion of shamelessly embracing what I love. Which is fan culture, not men.

Yeah I am still not interested in seeing it Dan i get you said it is done respectfully re the Harry Styles component. I just hate anything that brings attention again to Harry being forced into PR stunts.

Sounds like the part of you that is a fan of Anne Hathaway (and Taylor Swift) enjoyed this film and the part of you that is a fan of One Direction (and Harry Styles) did not
But Harry Styles sells so that why I think they did that :(

The book is not about HS, per the author it isn't about him however, the male main character is inspired by a mix of the author's husband, another guy, and HS. So the boy band front guy thing is obviously HS esq but this isn't a story about him at all. The actor also inserted himself in the process to pull away from the HS esq vibe as much as you can based on the story because he didn't want it to be that either. Other than English and the boy band it's not him. The similarities are not hard to tie to any male artist. HS fans like to think the actor tried to be HS and sound like HS and it's just not the case, Nick sings already as well, he is English and his voice and accent are his own not put on the sound like HS. Tattoos... Come on that is a very artist thing, not just HS. I read the book and the book is garbage, it has unlikable characters, Hayes was 20 a f boy even while with Solene. Solene was pretentious as hell and an unrealistic vibe of a good parent. I don't think the marketing leaned into HS I think HS fans wouldn't let it go, it took on a mind of it's own from years before the movie was a thing and because it's out there it's hard no matter how Nick tried to pull away from that. I think it's a huge disservice to Nick to give any credit or thought to HS because this, his process to be Hayes wasn't based on HS. Look you can find similarities between HS personal life and this story but again you can find that in others as well, I can toss a stone in Hollywood and easily hit 3 stories of the same. As far as the solo act Justin Timberlake, Nick Carter, Jordan Knight, Zayn, and that other OD guy... The list goes on of boy band singers that broke off and did single projects or solo careers, it is not a unique idea. I urge more people to forget HS when watching this movie and see the difference it makes. You ruin the movie by putting a HS view on it because if you are an HS fan it will effect the movie to you when it really shouldn't. As far as Hayes style please tell me you are joking... What guy, artist, actor hasn't worn that same style, it has been a popular style like hello Justin Bieber wore it.
I don't want to talk about it to be honest😒
