The color changes in the lighting in that scene mirror the colors of the painting he bought her, Unclose Me, the one that makes her feel everything...just as Hayes does. It's the most beautiful scene in the film...and a bit of a gut-punch.

And the chemistry my god i literally felt like I'm interrupting someone's private moments lol. This has already become my comfort movie 🤌

I think this movie is for women of all ages, young adults to middle aged women. I'm a somewhat young (28) mum of 3 and loved it. I love pretty much all romance movies.

Yeah, I'm 27 but I REALLY enjoyed reading the book and the movie.... I'm also a lesbian so I really really can't really relate to Solene but I think that the topics that are discussed in the book about women's sexuality and the double standard of men aging in society and women aging in society to be a really important conversation and message that the writer was trying to get across... They unfortunately didn't really delve into that topic as deeply as I was hoping that they would in this movie but I guess the book still exists so... Hopefully some people who watch the movie go on to read the book and can experience the important message that the author was clearly stating. There's DEFINITELY some aspects of the book that I really didn't like but I did like the social commentary within the book. 🤷♀️... I also surprisingly enjoyed the sex scenes so I was kind of disappointed that they didn't adapt a single one of them in the movie... I figured maybe one or two or maybe three of them from the book would have been adapted but then... we got literally NONE of them. 🤣

After hearing that the book is supposed to be not that good, I'm even happier that I liked the movie so much! 😅 I totally agree with you that the chemistry, the humor and the cinematography are really good! I agree minus her feeling self-conscious when she was in a bathing suit
The movie was really good compared to the book. To me the book was horrible, book Solene was always in a constant push-and pull with book Hayes and always think about the age gap and how she could be his mom and always think of how hot Hayes was. Meanwhile, book Hayes is a bit more whiny 20yo. The movie really elevated when they starts with the more mature characterization of both Hayes and Solene, they really bring up the more stable emotional feelings and bring more depth to their connection when they discussed their own personal trauma. Chemistry between Anne and Nick really sold the story.

BEST BOOK ADAPTATION IN A LONG TIME
It's not a Wattpad adaptation. The author of the book took some inspiration from Harry Styles for Hayes. The movie is an adaptation of the book.

@@reactswithriayeah I mean I guess it's technically fanfic because the inspirations taken from the media are quite clear in the book... But it's not like a Wattpad / fanfiction movie the way that those classically go... The way that they usually go is someone uploads their fanfic on to a fanfiction website and then once the fic is complete they take it down completely and change all of the names and sometimes the description of the characters a bit and usually change the title... and then they get it actually published... And then a movie adaptation comes from their fanfiction turned published novel..... This author just wrote the book during One Direction's height of fame and then published it... There are very slight fanfiction vibes in the writing style of the book but it technically was never posted on to a fanfic site. So like I can totally see where people got confused...but yeah..
It's technically not a like classic Wattpad movie in it's origin. I mean I primarily read fanfiction over published work... So I don't inherently think that there's anything wrong or inferior about Fanfictions being turned into movies I just kind of wish that the quality of the writing of the fanfics that were chosen to be adapted was higher... Because there ARE some extremely well written Fanfictions out there but most of the ones that have been chosen in recent years to get movie adaptations are very much NOT the well-written ones... So I guess you could say on a technicality that this novel is fanfiction-esque... Loosely based on Celebrities / musicians that exist in the media... But this novel was never published on to a fanfiction website. Ever. And when people think of the movie adaptations of fanfictions they usually associate it with it being on a fanfiction site before publication... But yeah I've also seen a bunch of people on tiktok and Twitter say that this is a fanfic adaptation movie... There's unfortunately quite a bit of misinformation floating around.

Agreed. I think the target audience for the book and movie is women over 40. There are lots of little jokes in the movie that I'm not sure younger people will understand.

I didn't inform myself about this movie at all, like I didn't watch the trailer, I didn't know it is based on a book and I didn't know that Harry Styles was the inspiration for Hayes (I can see it now) - I just wanted to watch it because of the cast and in the end I really enjoyed this movie☺️

I give the movie a 9/10 also. Maybe I’m overthinking this but did they officially get back together at the end or decide to be in each others life’s as friends?
oh, i mean an open ending is an open ending, so you can interpret it as you wish! i think they actually got back together… i have no idea how it goes in the book tho 🤓
In the book they sadly didn’t get back together 😞 after she broke it off with him he would text her but she would never respond and than soon he just stopped
So about Hayes' personality... As others have said, they aged him up 4 years in the movie... So he is a little bit more immature and whiny, in the book. He very much acts like a 20-year-old guy. So in the movie he's slightly more grounded and slightly more mature and they didn't really show any of his whininess in the movie which was a good choice, IMO lmao
But in general the character is the same he's still very caring and empathetic and charismatic and funny and very clearly EXTREMELY down bad for Solene and is the one pursuing her in both the movie and the book. He has a REALLY sweet relationship with Izzy in the book that they didn't get the chance to explore at all in the movie.

@@rhondapayne6256yeah, I genuinely really enjoyed reading the book but absolutely hated the ending.... But the journey to get to the end ...I did genuinely enjoy... The ending just SUCKED. So I'm incredibly happy with pretty much every single change that the movie made to the source material.

I wasn't sure what to expect but a friend told me he liked it so I hope I can at least have a fun time watching it! And to be fair, I had low expectations about Anyone But You back in February and I ended up loving it, so I hope it's the same case here!

I've watched the movie 6 times? 😅 so, yes, it's my new fav feel good movie. I love the chemistry (it makes you dreaming), but also (and that's why I like to re-watch it) it brings strong topics on the surface (that makes you reflect on)
by the way, I am 40+ and I found it cool as, when it comes to love, we are all the same: it doesn't matter how old are you. you'll always fall in love like a teenager 😀

Uhhhh,no it isn’t just Anne Hathaway,Nicholas Galatzine is amazing ,I’d never heard of this guy until this movie ,he can do any role and he sings he’s done comedy ,I’m in love I’ve now watched The Idea of You 9 times ,I’ve always been a huge fan of Anne Hathaways body of work .
I liked the movie, but it definitely has a very different feel to the book. The book is definitely not a comedy. More grounded in the reality of how this relationship would work (and not work). The movie is way more "wattpad popstar fantasy" than the book is. I actually liked the fact that they didn’t end up together in the book. They are at very different stages of their lives.
In the book, he's the one who makes a point to follow her to art events, rather than her going on tour with the band. He tries to learn more about art. It's a really important part of her story that her ex-husband never showed an interest in her work, whereas Hayes tries to understand and appreciate her passion. That’s how she moves from seeing their relationship as just a fling, to falling in love with him. He also fucks things up several times by doing things like hauling her out of an important art show, and that highlights their different levels of emotional maturity.
I liked the film too, but I think it would be better if they hadn't sacrificed this part of the story. Now we just get "two beautiful people fall in love because reasons". It would've been so easy to just include a little scene where he walks past a piece of art and correctly identifies the artist, to show us (and her) how much effort he's putting in.
It's a fun movie, but it's just missing a bit of the depth that would've made it a great movie.

From what I've read, the author used to work in the music industry, and I think that shows. It's pretty realistic as to how guys in bands behave sometimes.

I'll be honest, the redeeming qualities to the movie are the performances, both Galezitine and Hathaway are tremendous (and sexy) . The script is pretty AWFUL - we're together, we're apart, we're togeth, wait! No, wait, kid has whiplash with problems - we're apart, AGAIN.
