It's like watching surgery in space. Awesome video. I've got one that stopped working and was wondering what it looked like inside. Thanks for the video.
Thanks! Now I know exactly what they are talking about when they say it has electronic power steering! I'm assuming this is almost exactly what I would find in my 2016 Lexus ES 300h which currently has 258k miles and still going strong with zero issues! I never want to buy a non-Toyota vehicle since owning my Lexus for 4 years now! All cars should be built as reliable as a Toyota!
I wish you showed the power steering in operation- maybe a steering wheel added to the column shaft, and a pulley and weight on the output shaft past the motor. The steering wheel adjust ability was shown which was interesting.
So I have a question I had a 2012 Toyota Prius C, now I have a 2022 Toyota Corolla hatchback. I use it for driving school so we sit there between 30 minutes and one hour practicing the three point turn and parallel parking. And the steering seizes up and shuts down to prevent overheating. My question is, is there a way to prevent this from happening or a way to call the system down so that I can continue practicing parking and so forth
Hi! I have a 2009 Lexus GS probably with a similar steering column. I have a B2611 Telescopis Position Sensor or Telescopic Motor error. The telescopic function is not fully working and it's stopping after few rotations of the motor. Can you tell me if the position sensor is integrated with the motor or it's a separate one? What do you suggest to inspect in order to solve this problem? Thank you!
Very very intricate, would you be able to reassemble it though if needed? it makes me appreciate though why many luxury cars cost so much more seeing all thats involved with them.
This was definitely a destructive disassembly, this will not be going back together. You're right about luxury quality, this thing was a tank and it's only one of many engineered components that go into a Lexus.
My Lexus has a vibration in the steering system. Recently, I checked under the dashboard/steering system and found that the knuckle top shaft has some play, I then noticed that retainer clip 2:26 was off or loose. I could literally slide it up and down. Could that loose clip be the reason for the shaft play? I will eventually disassemble the plastic collar covers to get a better look.
Pls, I got a 2008 GS350, lovely ride but my steering gets hard intermittently, it gets hard to steer erratically and stays like that till I put off the engine. Error code is C1528 -motor rotation angle sensor. What does this mean and what can I do???
g'day. Maybe you know what sensors are used in EPS system? I know torque, vehicle speed and steering angle sensors. Can you give more detailed information about them or give a link to a repair manual of any car that has EPS? appreciated.
Most rx350 develop a rattle on the steering column, I plan to replace mine but I wonder if I can fix it. I was searching for a video to diy and found yours. Is sooo complex !! After dismantling this rattle did you any replaceable part that maybe the culprit of the rattles??
Thanks for the video - were there any components that could accept grease? Obviously the internals had grease - I mean serviceable grease fittings? I didn't see any....
The whole thing was sealed shut, nowhere to add grease. I suspect due to it being inside the car, not exposed to the weather, and fairly low usage I don’t think Toyota ever expects this assembly to need new grease.
Very interesting video...but it makes me want to cry seeing such a complex and amazing mechanism being taken apart and destroyed like that! I would have wanted to keep it as it is and play around with, maybe use it on a robot or something! When you connected power to the motors, it was so cool to see it moving.
i have lexus 470 that developed a gap in steering , had the bushes checked & they were fine. Tech says this issue is common in Lexus which comes due to malfuntion in some electrical compotent in steering shaft. can you help me which could be that. thanks
WOW... I'd have to say in this case you get what you pay for.... Now I know how each of my Lexus car's steering is made up of.... Basically a small hidden Rocket launcher built in the steering column. 😬😁😂😂😂😂. Ok now I'll pay you $1 whole dollar too put it all back together!!! 😂😂😂😂 Seriously awesome video 🌟💯👍🏁🏁🏁
Anyone had any luck with C15B2 code with VGRS on Toyota/Lexus? This video is great for the mechanical side, but doesn't show ECU or connections. Cheers.
You are such a nerd.... just like me x). Is the rack hight adjustable?? Is it for adjusting for ride settings or is it the steering column that rises up and down? Looks extremely over engineered! What did u do with it afterwards?
+creamtube This is the mechanism attached directly to the steering wheel, so these adjustments are to the actual steering wheel itself. It's VERY over engineered but it is a crucial safety component after all. It's all sitting in a box to be pilfered for future projects.
Arguably an electric hydraulic system would be heavier. This system doesn’t have a fluid reservoir or hydraulic lines. If this system ever fails it just defaults to manual powered steering. Hydraulic steering failing is even harder to steer because you still have to steer against the pressure of the fluid.
@@dappa211 Very true, though when looking at upper tier brand like Lexus or Mercedes it seems that each part is just that much more complex, and definitely more robust (and expensive).
The rack, pinion 2 seals 2 boots 4 clamps maby 4 parts to the case thats about a manual rack needs, my pugoet added a piston for power steering. These new racks are out of control, in the case of fords literally out of control!! @@PatonHaus
arty Berkhoff In all fairness, the steering column in my video is a complex electrically adjustable column. The average electric-assisted steering vehicle will have far fewer moving bits and really just the one motor to assist with the steering. This system sure beats dealing with a power steering pump and fluid. Also I’m not aware of any new vehicle being sold in North America that still comes with manual steering.
I will give you a million bucks now put it back altogether.............this is a joke, a piss poor design, the more the components the more likelyness to fail, sadly that s the reality, and more expensive to achieve a function,

You bet! Amazing how many little parts go into these parts!
lets see reassembly now
I love that, I wanna see it too
Impressive engineering going on their. Like a earlier comment it looks like it wouldn’t be out of place on a aircraft.
No kidding, the whole unit was built like a tank.
How Komplex the stuff gets - just to turn left and right... Insane... Fantastic...
No kidding, very intricate stuff. This one was also power telescoping and power height adjustable.

That's why they do not fix them when they break, the prefer to replace them instead, too long to tear a part and reassemble
