I've been using the X-Touch One with logic for about a year now, it works perfectly, you just needed to do a firmware update, and then it's all in sync when you switch tracks.
For the control surface not following track selection in Logic (with a mouse) . . . switch on "Control Surface Follows Track Selection" in control surfaces preferences.
There's a firmware update that solves the issue of selecting channels with the mouse. I updated mine and it works flawlessly. But the update might need to be done by somebody who doesn't have fat fingers.
I use both the X-touch One and the larger 8-fader X-touch at work. I enjoy both, but tbh, for me, the One is a gateway drug into the larger unit, which is just so much more satisfying to use! If you also run live sound, the larger X-touch integrates nicely with the X Air series of mixers, as well. Now I just need a couple of the extender units...
I have the full size X-Touch and 2 extenders and I really like them. I get an occasional issue where Logic tries to assign an extra unit for some reason but it works really well if you switch them on in the correct order. What I really like is plugin mode, where the rotary controls are automatically mapped to control parameters. It's let me move away from using a mouse a lot more. I think your issue with track selection can be fixed with a firmware update as it always works on mine on the latest version.
Full X-Touch unit here with Nuendo - works perfectly. Only negative point is the missing manual, the important stuff is only explained in some youtube videos by behringer.
I have one - it does the job. I did a bit of customisation within Logic to allow me to Drop Markers by pushing the Rotary Encoder (pan knob) and to get Zoom working how I wanted. Of course, more faders would be better but for the price you can’t complain. I’m not usually a fan of Behringer but this seems pretty solid.
I had to lough out loud! Humor is what's missing in the so serious world of audio technology. Btw. the topics are well selected. Thank's for your work and your enternaining and competent videos.
After some feedback from Mark in a FB-group about DAW-controllers he used , I bought the Icon Platform-M+ DAW controller. It has 8 channels with only basic functions and a transport section. But it is strong and heavy build and I'm perfectly happy with it. I didn't try out the Behringer though but I can't think about a need for more features on my Icon device. I'm using it for stem mixing and automation writing and in my particular case less is more for me. Kind regards, Patrick Peeters
I’ve had the full XTouch for a year and a half, and it works great with Mixbus 32C and Reaper. Writing automation, for say, all the vocal FX in one pass, is creative, efficient, and fun for us analog folks.
The only one thing that I need it's a transport wheel and play stop buttons!!! And small!!! I don't have more space in my desk for another controller (console 1, fader 1, RME remote control, 4 TC DT's and a Midi twister for custom hotkeys!!!)
I bought a magnetic overlay for my Xtouch (8 fader version) for Cubase and works a treat, you can get the equivalents for Xtouch One / Logic. Have seen your reviews re the SSL UF8, UC1 which does look a great combo, but as you suggested the missing link is the one button/one function transport controls etc. The Xtouch One form factor would fill the gap until, as you also suggest SSL develop their equivalent.
I really think getting a controller depends on how you work. I ended up getting a Faderport 8 for Logic, and while I LOVE the actual faders and the basic recording function controls, I STILL use my mouse a lot, because I'm so used to it. I don't know if I'll ever get used to using the Faderport instead of my mouse for a lot of functions.
Ah....featured cat! I have 2 home studio setups. In the big one I use a Mac Pro with touchosc as the controller. In the baby setup I use an iMac and the x-touch mini. The little device takes 50% of my mouse work off me, touchosc 85%. I've had experience with motorised faders and now I avoid them like the plague.
I'm still using a frickin old Behringer BCF2000 controller. The only annoyin detail, it's a little noisy, but to write fader rides it's fine. Thanks for showing this one.
I just bought one the other day. Works perfectly and looks great. Also have it sat next to an Audient Nero My only gripe is having the transport buttons so close over the jog wheel. Makes it hard to poke them with a drumstick or generally just hit them in a hurry from somewhere else.
I use one. Definitely an improvement over the mouse once you're used to it. I'm using it in Reaper. The one thing I wish is that I could just arbitrarily assign a parameter/automation lane rather than being stuck with just volume & panning automation.
