You don't even need to play a counterattack. You can just play Qd4 after your knight is captured by white's bishop and your pawn is captured by white's knight. The knight and pawn are forked so white has to go back with the knight, and then, you capture the pawn with the Queen and give a check.
You are right @expeditiousandrudolph5780 This is one more variation of playing this position. Plus, there are other variations possible too. And because of multiple variations possible in any given situation, that is what makes the game of chess so interesting, challenging and beautiful.
0:24 This is wrong. In the ruy lopez 3…a6 is the mainline for a reason. If 4.Bxc6 dxc6 5.Nxe4 Qd4 wins the pawn back with a very comfortable position as black on move 5. Do not defend the e pawn if white plays Bb5 if you want a good or comfortable position, but 3…d6 is a playable move however bad it is. Cool video otherwise though
3...a6 is the Morphy Defense variation of the Ruy-Lopez Opening and is the main line too, you are correct. But in order to setup the fishing pole trap, you have to play the Berlin Defense of the Ruy-Lopez Opening which is 3...Nf6. This video is only about understanding the fishing pole trap. Your suggestions are valid when we learn the Ruy-Lopez Opening in general. Am glad you are a good chess learner and an enthusiast. Keep up the good work @yeetusdeletus5714 😊
@doctheperfectfaceforradio6022 very good question! It depends on the next order of moves played in the game which might not be the same as shown in this video.
Wonderful! Liked, saved and subscribed.
Thank you @HalcombPlumbing 😊
That means a lot to me.

You will be the next Vishey Anand
I'm a fan of Vishy Anand and I have a huge respect for a player like him, but if given a chance, I would like to be the the best version of myself.
In the event that White opens with the Queen's Pawn, will the Fishing Pole Trap still be effective?
I don’t think so. Seeing how the fishing pole comes from the Ruy Lopez opening. Which starts with e4

Beginners do :)
Beginners end up playing every possible chess opening because they are curious to experiment.
