I was going to ask the purpose of memorizing all the squares but then I restarted the video and the answer was there - it is to be able to play blindfold chess. Who wants to play blindfold chess? I guess it's a great mental strengthening practice but it seems like it would be more productive to learn strategies. Maybe blindfold chess does help in improving strategies, though.

I think Nc3 is the best move because it attacks, develops and take control the square.

It's a nice puzzle, but I kind of dislike those over-the-top titles that try to sell this for more than it's worth. There are much, much, much harder Mate in 2 chess puzzles out there. In this case, you can easily solve it by just asking yourself: "What if it's black to move - how could they prevent Mate in 1?"

I have seen this puzzle before and know what white needs to do in order to win. The one thing you don't do is just make a random king move or move the pwn. doing that would be a loss for white because black would move the knight thus freeing blacks pawn in front to become a queen. Along with freeing a rook and bishop. So the first move is for white to use the king to take the knight. Then push the pawn one square at a time till you get to the queening square. Then under promote to a knight because anything else will not do as far as mating black. Then you have to use the knight to eventually first take the pawn on c5 then take the pawn on c4 where you would then deliver the mate by taking the rook on b3 when the queen is in the corner on a1.
