Could you PLEASE stop or start having more control on you suffering expression when on camera? Is soooo annoying!!!... lift those eyebrows evenly but don't make a lame and sad-dog-face!!!!!... GAAAAAAD!
That‘s the Q3 review with the best background music so far
And the Oscar for best original soundtrack goes to
Marques Carroll, I believe.
You are 100% in your zone again. Even your equipment reviews are the same chill tone of your regular travel videos. I totally love it. You are one of the top channels I get excited for when you drop a new video. Thanks and keep them coming!
glad you enjoyed it! I try to make gear videos entertaining as they're usually pretty boring
Great to see a Q3 review where the photographs taken are actually fantastic. Its shocking how average some of the compositions are on most of the other Q3 reviews!
First time visiting your channel, and I commend you on the quality of the review, the beautiful photography, and above all on the feel of your video-the mood, music, calm, warmth, and openness make it pure pleasure to watch. Thank you.
Finally got the x100v and am ready to relearn the basics of photography. Thanks for all the great content and it’s been awesome to see you grow!
Same here. Was quite advanced once but photography is definitely not like riding a bike. Too many options now 😅
i think especially now with social media and the possibilities to see so many artists it’s really exciting to have someone to follow who’s visual story telling and also just photography in general just speaks to me 🙏 love the review and so earned!!
They chose the right person to review this camera, another fantastic video, looking forward to the POV 👌
Lovely shots sir! Thank you for sharing
It sounds like there are some great updates to this camera. I agree on the flip screen, I do like how Fujifilm designed that in the X100V.
Great job on yet another video.
the tilt screen is pretty crucial especially for ppl like myself who love taking those 'low to the ground' shots and also shooting from the hip
agreed!
Super high quality video and I loved the sample images. Your use of reflections and texture is top class. 👌
Thank you very much, Faizal, you're sharing video. Great it.
Such a fantastic review. Also loved the sample photos.
Amazing that you got your hands on one!
One of the best reviews I've ever seen. Good description, excellent photos and a gentle voice. Congratulations!
Love it when you make gear videos bc yours are so much better than other reviewers
thank you!!
I’m not somebody who will change their current camera to the next iteration, I still have a Nikon Z7, but for sure my Q2 will be sold and a Q3 bought as a quick as possible. The upgrades are amazing. One thing all reviews seem to miss is the new BSI sensor with triple resolution, drop the resolution to 18mp and with pixel binning low light shooting will be another level - way better than the Q2
Beautiful photos!
Superb video, makes me want to return to Venice and own a Leica Q3. Always been fascinated by the Leica Qs but this iteration looks outstanding! Great review that flows seamlessly with you exploring the city.
Great and entertaining gear review that shows all the functionality out in the field instead of exclusively talking about it behind a desk.
Stellar review... Cheers dude!
Awesome work 👏
Thank you
When i found your channel a few years ago it was a gift from God.
Best Q3 video I’ve binged today. So much so, I dropped the ~$7k all-in to purchase one; and the crazy thing, this is my first non-iPhone camera 😂
I smell sarcasm lol
@@FaizalWestcott proud to say I have my Q3 in hand as we speak - work on that sarcasm meter! Amazing video!
@@zachscheel3784 That was fast, I am told at least 3 months waiting here in Norway :/ Going to check order status every morning anyway 🤣
@@ArneHalvorsen63 Yeah! I was up-to-date that the release was going to be 5/25 so I called B&H at 9am EST when they opened and placed my order insta. It delivered the next day, and the salesperson called me over the weekend just to check in and let me know that I was the first order at the NY location and he was only able to place a couple other cameras after me until it was on backorder.
Awesome review. Love this camera so much.
I’d love to know about your color editing, it is so unique. Your stuff is always good!
Incredible video, I just sit and can't look away
I guess I did okay for a gear video? haha
beautiful
Great!
Another banger video
That viewfinder design is really interesting
Finally Leica added a tilt screen! I’m a Q2M shooter and would have loved this feature on the Q2. Thank you Leica for listening to your customer base!
Glad I just found your channel. Way too many (stills) camera reviewers out there who showcase uninspiring images. You're a breath of fresh air.
I appreciate that!
Great video!!
Thanks Diego!
great video
Great photos
Thank you!
Excellent video! Really appreciate that a real photographer did the review instead of one of those photo-influencers. Faizal's images are really well composed and timed. Chapeau!
Love the tilt screen! but I was hoping for 35mm or even 40mm lens.
I'll wait :)
Yes great camera but 28mm is too wide for me, I prefer 35mm for my photography. Crop are great but it's just a crop not real 35mm
@@user-oq6de8sd6y but it's 60mb file?
subscribed to your channel because you know how to take proper photos
UA-cam award for Best Original Score 🙌🏻
haha! I take my music selections seriously
@@FaizalWestcott Don’t worry it translates !
Ps: how wasn’t I subscribed already 🤷🏻♂️
Cool, as ever.
I switched to Capture One a few years back and have loved it. Also, as a original Q user, I'm looking forward to the prices dropping on the Q2. I'm still wondering if I should just save a little more and get the Q3 though. The Q3 looks incredible.
I've been wondering the same thing. With all the Q2 sales lately it's been tempting, but for just a bit more we could have a Q3.
Personally, it seems worth it to me for the Q3. It's really just a matter of convincing myself to spend the money.
Hi, thanks for the great review. I have a question regarding editing the leica images via Capture One, if I used a crop while shooting, does this crop apply on the raw in capture one or do I only have this cropped version on a jpeg? would love to see it there like I had the intension while shooting it.
Awesome review Faizal!
How usable would you say those crop modes are when comparing to say a 26mp Fujifilm? I use a X-E4 and a 18mm F2 and 35mm F1.4. Wondering if the crop mode would match the 35mm F1.4 for detail. The math says one should get just over 15mp at 50mm crop with around about an F3.4 equivalent depth of field.
What do you reckon, will it match, fall short or out perform the X-E4 with the 35mm F1.4 for detail? Depth of field would obviously fall short by a bit more than a stop.
Anyway, looking forward to the photo-walk video.
Cheers
Stefan
Thanks Faizel! Well done, understated, but covered all the points! What were you using for a strap?? Thanks! Geoff
Kudos to Leica for capitalizing on a market opportunity left by the scarcity of the 100V. I’m still surprised they’ve gone with a flip screen and disappointed to see such a wide prime lens on it. Sorry if I missed it in the video, but how’s the separation in “punched in mode” wide open?
Hey Faizal! Nice video again. Did you add grain in the ISO100 images? Or is this SOOC? Just asking because they seem quite grainy on my screen. Cheers! D
Hi great video by the way ! Did you shoot this ytube video with the q3 camera ? It looke sharp and nice
that boy dun stepped up!! haha
Any chance did you try any short video clips? Wonder how the video works if rolling shutter is bad, would make a nice family travel camera if I can rely on the video also for short clips.
About the floppy screen. The Q line makes a ton of sense.
I actually use Capture One with my x100f. I think a really cool future video would be to see how you edit your photos. From RAW to cropping to editing to the final version.
He already did it!
@@martinglb oh wow, thanks for the heads up. Going to look for it.
useful review; good strap too, where did you get it?
Question for ya! When shooting, does it black out when the shutter is engaged? In burst mode, does it black out / freeze like the Q2? Also, does the FPS drop at higher ISOs? I notice my Q2 is super choppy at 3200 and higher. Thanks!
Faizal, thank you very much for this review! I have one more question (couldn’t find any details in the official specs): what is the maximal image resolution when shooting with digital zoom (eq. to 35, 50, 75 and 90mm)? Thanks!!
It’s mentioned in the specs that digital zoom (crop) for 35mm is approx. 1.25x, for 50mm - 1.8x, for 75mm - 2.7x and for 90mm - 3.2x. It means that the resolution for 35mm should be 48MP, for 50mm - 33.3MP, for 75mm - 22.2MP and for 90mm - 18.75MP. Can you confirm it? )))
Ok, you’re almost there…now try an M body 😎. Great video 👏🏾
Question for you since you were able to plug it directly into capture one can you tether with the Q3?
Very helpful video, but you made me very nervous setting that camera on the wall above the canal!
Any chance you'll do a comparison between this and the Ricoh GRIII?
Nice video, man! Always been curious about Leica, but man, I like my in-camera film simulations on my x100v way too much to do the jump.... What are your thoughts of the leica q3 vs the x100v? Would love to hear. Cheers
Toneh! 🤘
I'm too poor to buy but hey, it's good to know what's in the market.
accessories/upgrades giving big x-100v vibes
is digital zoom just cropping in camera or does it do some magic inside to make it higher quality than just cropping post?
11:10 it's micro-hdmi not mini-hdmi port. Excellent review!
is there some sort of (video) stabilization in that camera? also how bright is this lcd screen in comparison to let´s say a sony a7iii or a7iv ?
As much as I like the improvements in the auto focus especially, and the tilt screen, viewfinder.
The main issue for me is you still can’t get the separation from a digital 28 mm that you can with the actual primes in equivalent focal lengths. This stands out a lot in some of the images you took. For me I’ll stick with my primes. Plus I can buy a Fuji XT5 and get three major primes and still have money left over. 🖖
i want one so bad
I love your videos. keep up
What about white balance differences between screen and viewfinder (a major issue on Q2)? is it addressed in Q3 ? (Which btw, I still believe can be addressed even in Q2 via firmware fix...)
As a capture one user, do you have a problem while viewing the images in fit screen especially for raw files?
Can you share your experience with using app for downloading images. When downloading both dng and jpeg i can only see one ' combined ' file. On SD card you have both. Is it intentional?
I wonder if they improved the Iso performances with the Q3 ?
11:02 I'm curious if the Q2 battery will work in the Q3
I currently have the Q2 + 2 batteries. With this new release I'm considering the upgrade. Perhaps I will sell my Q2 + batteries to KEH and use those proceeds to supplement the purchase of the Q3+batteries ----- hmmmm.
The flip screen alone is worth the upgrade for me. I have a bad back and knees
a capture one spon 😩 you made it my guy
Haha yes!!
Is the 3 also wider thans the q and the q2. They say it's more about 25 or 26 than the real 28. Thanks in advance.
Nice video.
Like father ( Leica q3) like son ( fujix100v) !
Question: when using one of the crop modes, does it simply show the frame lines only or does it allow the image to fill the viewfinder/screen?
It will fill the screen if you select to shoot in JPEG (DNG + JPEG is what I shoot) but not if it’s DNG only, in which case it will show the frame lines only.
@@hatemfawzy5980 very helpful, thank you.
Is there a version of the Q3 without the Leica red dot?
Great video. I am wondering if the focal length is actually 28mm as advertised, or closer to 24mm like the Q2 was?
It's the same as the Q2, feels a bit wider than a 28mm.
@@FaizalWestcott Thank you
Hey faizel as always love your video! I have a question about your Capture one experience so far!
Do you ever find you miss photoshop? and how was the experience transfering from cap to lightroom mostly in terms of catalogs?
I like your slim camera straps. What strap is it? Can I found in Amazon?
its linked in the description :)
where'd do you get your beanie?
Honestly, this just makes me want the Q2 even more. I applaud Leica for being confident enough in their brand to step away from fundamentals to capture a wider audience. I'd say that's something they've been unwilling to do in the past. It makes perfect sense for the Q, as their most typical consumer facing line.
But the Q3 is definitely pivoting away from a lot of the things I really admired about the Q and Q2. Adopting features and tools which are common amongst the Sony type bodies- things which are a big part of why those bodies feel disconnected from camera heritage. Obviously the Q3 (and those Sony bodies) deliver versatility and results, but they lose a bit of soul in the process. To me this is why many Fujifilm bodies and Leica bodies feel distinctly separate from the Canon, Nikon, Sony offerings. I like the Q series as like an x100v done by Leica. This new Q feels more like an A7c done by Leica. I say that as someone who owns and enjoys an A7c ha.
Anyway. Good video, great camera. Looking forward to the Q2 getting every closer to falling into my dirty little paws.
Really? An articulating screen and inclusion of phase focus divorced it from "camera heritage"? The x100V has an articulating screen. I get what you're saying, but the original Q or Q2 doesn't have any reason to be romanticized over the Q3. Save your romanticization for the M line at least.
@@cmiller7299 The x100v entire form factor is designed after film nostalgia. Up to and including an OVF. The externalized dials. Film simulations front and center. Etc. The tilting screen can do little to sway the vibe established by everything else.
Otherwise, I made myself clear- and it goes far beyond a screen and phase focus (which, worth noting, are your examples not mine). A particular set of features came into play which move it away from the M by a wide margin and the Q itself by quite a bit. I'm not arguing it's not versatile- just that a personal line for me has been found. You don't have to agree with my opinion.
You probably right, never considered a Leica but now have a Q3 order in :)
@@ArneHalvorsen63 It's certainly going to be an amazing camera that will stand the test of time 👍
@@SourPlanet this articulated screen is no near the screens presented in the Sony, Panasonic or Canon bodies which looks like screens from old vhs videocameras. I hate those screens. The articulated screen from the Leica Q3 brings the camera even closer to the perfection of cameras like the Fuji XT2, one of the bests I ever had. This new Leica is more a true camera than ever, not only a simple and elegant point and shoot, for the first time it looks like a tool more than a pretty toy.
It's not as pretty as the Leica QP but it will certainly be much more useful.
Everywhere I look it’s sold out! Anyone know where I can order one that want take a year to get!
If the Fuji X100V is Bruce Banner, the Q3 is Mr. Joe Fixit in a crisp Handmade suit with a silk pocket square.
Apologies if this was asked and I did not see it... What equipment was the video shot on for this video?
I never thought the q2 provided good value. But this? But for a missing joystick, what more could you possibly ask for?
I would absolutely kill for a Leica Q3 with a fixed 50mm lens. That would be a game changer, in my opinion.
Every time I handle a Q2, I fall in love. That is, until I look through the viewfinder and see the focal length. I shoot with 50mm exclusively, and 28 just does not work with me. Please, Leica, I beg of you...
No! 85 mm !
I also used to dream about the 50mm lens on the Q-series. Especially, at the times of first generation Q. But basing on the specs of the Q3, if you shoot in 50mm eq. mode (crop 1.8x) the image resolution should be around 33.3MP. Isn’t it enough for you? The majority of current mass market cameras are equipped with 24-36MP sensors. Leica solved the problem of the wide-angle fixed lens by increasing the sensor resolution ))
@@artemlezhnev826 The more I thought about it, the more I agree with you here. Effectively, you could use the Q3 as a camera with 28, 35, and 50mm lenses and still have high resolution.
I think being forced to use the frame lines would give me pause on 75 or 90mm, but I think for 35/50 they really aren’t bad.
All that being said, I’ve decided to pick up a Q3. Wish me luck!
If you think Q2 EVF is outdated I'm super curious what do you think about Fujifilm EVF? :>
Does the 50mm look distorted? A 28mm distorts the scene and you’re still cropping into a distorted image. Your opinions please.
How does it compare with the X100V? I'm thinking of upgrading. 😁
With all the ports and the flip screen did it lose its weatherproofing qualities?
No
I'm surprised Leica gave someone a camera who's previously hated on the Q2 and a known Fuji boy.
If the Leica made the screen flushed with the body, wouldn't it be even harder to pull out the screen?
Let's go gamers
The first impression I got was, that it’s too expensive for me to even watch reviews……. 😊
